Beginner looking for COACH

April 15, 2009

I decided this weekend that I want to compete.  I’ve been hunting all over the internet, any idea where / how i can find a coach? Thank you

Is there a difference between a coach / trainer?

March 16, 2009

I hear that anyone who competes…has a Coach.  And I’ve heard anyone who doesn’t compete…like myself, uses a Trainer. Does this make any sense? From the way it sounds, it’s as if a Trainer is for someone who has every day type of goal such as : basic wt training, wt loss. ( Also, has a larger client base) And a Coach, seems to be a bit more educated when it comes to the details. Such as meal plans, etc…pays more attention to each client, and in result doesn’t book as many of them, since the training is more time consuming etc…and there’s a deadline for the results.  My trainer’s contract  ends at the end of this month, and before i resign her…I want to double check my options, make sure i’m investing my time/$$ the right way.  If there is a difference, perhaps a Coach is better? I don’t plan on competing, but I wouldn’t mind having the option to either.

Thank you

Joint Pain!

February 25, 2009

I’ve switched trainers.  Now mind you, due to a hand injury

(A nice,lovely,2nd degree burn)  i’ve been lifting very little wt for the past 2 weeks, of course still doing cardio.

We did upper body: six 1 min sets. Then inbetween did either jumping jacks or lunges. 40 min session. It’s been 2 days, and the top of my thighs killlllll when  i walk. Example - if i sit, i cannot lift my leg straight out, it feels sooooo fkn tight. And i can’t extend my arms all the way.

Now i’ve been sore before…but  never this bad, this seriously hurts like hell lol  Could this be due to me being mia for 2 weeks? Should i whip out the heating pad lol…morphine drip?  jk lol What could this be from?

Also, to prevent this. Someone mentioned liquid, warm jello immediatly when I get home from the gym. Suggestions? I know. It’s time for me man up. Stop laughing  lol

Dave Palumbo ProGress

January 26, 2009

Dave Palumbo Diet Okie, I did not “journalize” the first week. Still wasn’t quite comfortable yet as far as meal portions, cal / pro intake etc., and what exactly I could/couldn’t eat. Mind you, I have an office job ( where I do get to sit…all day ::rolls eyes:: hopefully soon to change.) , I’m up very early, and regretfully due to my gym schedule, I don’t get to physically lay in my bed till about 11pm.

Also, I know no females who have done this diet, besides what I read from this site. But, they do not have a body like mine example: 5’2 bf% 32.3 Wt 163 and the odd part, no believes me. Besides that, I want to be verrrry careful with this high protein/fat intake. I’m afraid I could do more damage than good, so I’m always asking questions. Guy friends of mine have said “Don’t worry about calories, no direct carbs, are your pro intake should be 122grams a day”.

Before this I was on a balanced 15oo-16oo a day, balanced meal plan. So counting pro is a different ballgame for me. Never mind the fact that though I’m used to sprint running for 40-60 min, 6x week plus wt training at least 3 days a wk, now I have to speed walk I guess you can say for 40 min. Very difficult. For the 1st time in a while I’m board off my Italian tusH on the treadmill!

I haven’t loss any wt within the first week, just maintained 162. I was a little bumed, but it was expected. My energy level was almost non existent, no matter how much sleep / tea I was downing. By the time I got to the gym I dreaded seeing my trainer, terrified that I would pist him off lol one thing I hate doing is disappointing / doing less than what he expects from me.

Meal prepping was soooo simple. Well, considering I was still clueless with a lot of things. I went from my usual 3oz of meat to 4oz, instead of a carb, double up on the broc. Though terrified if I was allowed to balsamic vinegar ( BTW : Add some Equal to that, it makes a great dressing if you like your dressings sweet, and it’s a good replacement for a sweet glaze type of sauce for meats, and if you add some to dijon mustard it taste like honey mustard ), I went without out it…and used either hot sauce, or some low carb ketchup while keeping my heels crossed lol Snacks…I stuck with cashews, still not sure on how many so I kept it to the box’s serving, and cottage cheese. I hate the texture, so I purchased the whipped kind, added some equal to that and it almost tasted like a dessert. Then I would crushed cashew’s, throw them in…and it was great for when I was driving aka in a rush. In Jersey, we’re known for the traffic!

My first wknd…wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I went out with my gf’s, and even though they ordered ALL of my favorite foods, I stuck with my HUGE salad…looking down while stuffing my face…and demanded the waiter to take their plates the moment they were done lol, downing god knows how many glasses of water to remain full, and had some grilled combo with steak, shrimp, and chicken. For the first time I didn’t bring left overs for my pup  but he understood. OH, and though I did fantasize about it allll wknd, I didn’t have one sip of vodka ;)

So the first week my meals were all over the place as I mentioned and I continued to read our forums and send emails back n forth to different Males lol and continued to tex guy friends for answers. So hopefully, this week will be…cleaner…if not, feel free to beeeech me out and tell me what’s right.

Here it goes:

6:30 AM: 3 whole eggs, 2 egg whites, ½ cup ground turkey, little bit of shredded cheese. (This was my 1st time adding the turkey, last wk I was noticing I got hungry/dizzy shortly after having just eggs and was difficult for me to wait for my next meal)

8:30 AM: Whipped cottage cheese ¼ cup, crushed cashews ¼ cup

10:30 AM: Skirt steak 4oz (I dissected as much fat as I could prior to cooking), 1 cup Broc

12:30 PM: Mozzarella (homemade) 2 slices, Deli turkey 4 slice, I tbsp natural P.B (Normally I don’t have the p.b., but for some reason I was still hungry)

2:30 PM: Same tuna serving w/ Dijon mustard, Mozzarella 2 slices

4:30 PM: Chkn 4 oz marinated with balsamic, salad 2 tbsp caesar dressing. 6:30 PM: (snack might be either: moz/ tuna OR cashews/tuna)

8:30 PM: After gym, egg meal repeat.

I don’t like the taste of plain water, so I drink a gallon of water a day with some equal and crystal light.

* That’s not including my 3 cups of tea, 1 cup of coffee*

Dave Palumbo’s diet

January 22, 2009

I started this monday 1/19/09, i was asking someone questions about portions. I was told 122 pro, but as far as fat/cal i’m clueless. His response was "Figure out cals you want ( WHich is what i’m clueless about !!) then Micro %,then devide it by number of means and you’re all set. "

Now what in ghey hell is he talking about?? Before this diet i was eating 6 meals, balanced, 15-1600 a day. I’m continuing the 6 meals, but still need help figuring out the measurements food wise for the next 4-6 weeks. SO what does he mean? I’m clueless on how many cal to take in etc. Just protein.

Wt 163 ( probably less, haven’t weighed myself in a month)

Bf % 32.3

Not sure if it matters but i’m 5′2.

NutriSystem?

January 5, 2009

I tried it once, about 2 yrs ago. The food was awesome, and i didn’t loose wt…more like maintained it. THough, i wasn’t drinking nowhere near as much water as i do now, and i wasn’t even exercising so umm…yeah, terrible lol Anyways, my question I already prep/cook my meals about a week in advanced, but thought about switching it up, possibly making my "cooking" routine a little easier, hell…maybe take a off for the month as far as cooking, and try this again? It wouldn’t be long term, cause i do enjoy my cooking. Any suggestions? Is nutrisystem a big no no?

EggWhites International?

December 24, 2008

Ok, so they just came in the mail. To sum up the nutrition facts : One 8-ounce cup of liquid egg whites supplies 26 grams of pure 100% bioavailable protein, with only 2 carbs., Zero Fat, Zero Cholesterol, and only 120 calories. Basically, 10 eggwhites. ( Each pump equals 1 ounce, my trainer feels I should only do 7 instead of 8. )

My plan is, perhaps replacing 3 of my meals daily, with this. Simply because it’s a hell of a lot easer, I can mix it with anything from skim milk, juice, you name it,it’s tasteless. Plus, since I purchased 2 of them, I can leave one at work.

My trainer’s concern latly, is from the beginning, i’ve been consuming too much protein. When i first started with him 7 months ago, he couldn’t believe I was 5′2 at 172. You would think I would need assistance walking through the door lol I know muscle weighs more than fat,but christ ! It was just strange, with a number like that, u would think that i would look "obesse". But if u look at my pix, that wasn’t the case. Anyways, we argued, then he threw a 10 pound wt on the men’s locker room’s scale…twice lol, kicked everyone out, then allowed me in. Once the scale proved my number, we tried to figure out what was it that i was eating etc that was causing this wt gain within the past yr ( for yrs i was 135). Then we both figured it out, since my diet was close to perfect ( 3-4 meals a day, compared to the 6 meals a day i eat now) it mainly had to do with the medication that I was on,Lexapro ( it’s for anxiety). From there on it took me 4 months to be leaned off it,finally the weight started falling off.

::kicks medication to the curb:::

Anyways, I’ve droped 10 pounds since. I’m curious now that if i replace 3 of my meals with the liquid egg whites, would I see faster results? Now i know " fast" Isn’t  the safest & key to long term results. But if I were going to take this on, wouldn’t this be the healthy way…it seems harmless considering it’s all natural. Suggestions? Sorry for the long blog ;)   Happy holidays

SHakEs Necessary?

December 14, 2008

Ok…this whole shake thing. I’m told not everyone has to. My nutritionist tells me she would like me to stay away from them, including the meal bars etc. if possible. She feels it’s easier for the body to digest if whatever i consume is "natural". So i stopped with whatever shake/meal bars i was taking. Though I did just purchase ( it’s always advertised in Oxygen Mag.) The EggWhite shakes,it’s a huge container that comes with a pump? I ordered it cuz it seems to be the most " natural" meal replacement I can find. Esp after work outs ( i usually makeself an eggwhites anyway). Plus, i weigh/prep my meals every sunday for the week. My goal is to drop 20 pounds by this summer. Any suggestions to this theory….? Am I making the right choice?  Thank you :)

No boobs?

December 10, 2008

I’m new the " female body building" thing. AS much as i’m trying to read, i’m still not finding much info for beginners :(

i’ll have more questions soon, but to start… I can’t help but notice most of the female b.b’s on this site have implants. Is that because eventually, that is something that I might need to take into consideration down the road…even if I just so happen to be a 38 D ? Sorry for he graphics lol

Blog Entry

December 2, 2008

I’ve never seen a site where there’s so much support and encouragement from strangers. It’s so comforting to know that there’s a " place" where everyone is striving / maintaining the same goal…perfection ;) Muah!
