Have a laugh….

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

A woman accompanied her husband to the doctor’s office. After his checkup, the doctor called the wife into his office alone. He said, “Your husband is suffering from a very severe disease, combined with horrible stress. If you don’t do the following, your husband will surely die.”

“Each morning, fix him a healthy breakfast. Be pleasant, and make sure he is in a good mood. For lunch make him a nutritious meal. For dinner prepare an especially nice meal for him. Don’t burden him with chores, as he probably had a hard day. Don’t discuss your problems with him, it will only make his stress worse. And most importantly…make love with your husband several times a week and satisfy his every whim. If you can do this for the next 10 months to a year, I think your husband will regain his health completely.”

On the way home, the husband asked his wife, “What did the doctor say?”

“You’re going to die,” she replied.

Book of life….

Friday, May 30th, 2008

Each day life offers you a blank page in the book of your existence. Your past is already written and you cant change that, in its pages you can find your history, some pages have soft colours, others darker shades. Beautiful rembrances of happy times or pages you wish you could tear out.

Today you have the opportunity to write another page, its up to you to choose the colours it will have, for even in adversity you can add soft pastels or serenety to turn it into a beautiful experience.

Today how will you write your day? It all depends on your will and optimism to transform todays page in the book of your life into a page that you will still treasure as a beautiful remembrance in the future. If you knew you had only one more day to live, what would you do?

No doubt you would make peace with God and with those around you, you’d enjoy the golden sun rays, the gentle breeze, the love and affection of that special person and the many blessings the Lord has given that we sometimes take for granted.

Enjoy this new day, take mental inventory of all the good things in your life and live each hour with cheer giving it your best. Do not harm others and be happy to be alive and be able to give a smile and offer others a helping hand. Its never too late to change course, start anew and write fresh pages of happiness and peace in your book of life.

Thank God for his gift of today and the opportunity to turn this day into a beautiful new page in the book of your existence. Remember that inspite of adversities, problems and difficulties its up to you how you live today as if it were your first day……….as if it were your last day……..The ONLY day in the book of your life………….May all your days be full of love and joy.

Attitude…

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

There once was a woman who woke up one morning,
looked in the mirror,
and noticed she had only three hairs on her head.
‘Well,’ she said, ‘I think I’ll braid my hair today.’

So she did and she had a wonderful day.

The next day she woke up,
looked in the mirror
and saw that she had only two hairs on her head.

‘H-M-M,’ she said,

‘I think I’ll part my hair down the middle today.’

So she did and she had a grand day.

The next day she woke up,
looked in the mirror and noticed
that she had only one hair on her head.
‘Well,’ she said, ‘today I’m going
to wear my hair in a pony tail.’

So she did, and she had a fun, fun day.

The next day she woke up,

looked in the mirror and noticed

that there wasn’t a single hair on her head.

‘YAY!’ she exclaimed.

‘I don’t have to fix my hair today!’

Attitude is everything.

Be kinder than necessary,

for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

Live simply,

Love generously,

Care deeply,

Speak kindly…….

Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass…

It’s about learning to dance in the rain.

I did my all time favourite workout today - my bi’s and tri’s…

Started with dips (wow now I’ve really gotten strong here, what a change from a few weeks ago) 3 sets of 10 but was able to go down low.

Barbell curls……..25kgs x 3 sets x 8 reps(I’ve been experiencing some serious wrist pain and realise that it worsens every time I do barbell curls - a friend I sometimes train with suggested I change to EZ bar curls as that takes the pressure of the wrist - so next week)

incline dumbell curls…………12kgs each x 5 sets x 5 reps

hammer curls…………..10kgs each x 5 sets x5reps

cable preacher curls - seated…………30kgs x 1 sets x 5 reps, 35 kgs x 4 sets x 5 reps

concentration curls………..9kgs x 5 sets x 5reps

tricep extensions………..40kgs x 5 sets x 5 reps

behind the head rope extension……….30kgs x 5 sets x 5 reps

tricep extension dumbell behind head…….9kgs x sets x 5 reps

one arm cable push downs……………..20kgs x 3 sets x 10 reps (per arm)

dips with 15kg plate, feet up……….25, 20, 20.

I really enjoyed this workout and love working out on my own, I’m in a very positive place in my mental capacity when I’m lifting - sometimes thats not always the case with a workout partner so I really enjoy my own energy and pushing for more and just loving the burn. This was such a fab workout.

So hope you have a stunning day and remember …..its about learning to dance in the rain!

Short Autobiography…

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

Chapter I

I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I fall in
I am lost . . . I am helpless
It isn’t my fault.
It takes forever to find a way out.

Chapter II

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I pretend I don’t see it.
I fall in again.
I can’t believe I am in the same place.
But, it isn’t my fault.
It still takes a long time to get out.

Chapter III

I walk down the same street
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I see it is there.
I still fall in . . . it’s a habit.
My eyes are open.
I know where I am.
It is my fault.
I get out immediately.

Chapter IV

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I walk around it.

Chapter V

I walk down another street.

I did my legs today - had such an awesome workout and B I’m still smiling.

Squats…………..50kgs x 3 sets x 10 reps (initially moving to this weight was really tough, and form wasnt great but now it feels just like it did when I did 40kg squats, great form and able to go low)

Hack Squats……………80kgs x 2 sets x 15 reps, 100kgs(yes yes) x 2 sets x 10 reps

Walking Lunges………….11kg dumbells each x 3 sets of 30 steps

Bulgarian split squat……….11kgs each x 3 sets x 10 reps per leg.

Leg Extensions……………….30kgs x 4 sets x 10 reps

leg curls……………..25kgs x 3 sets x 5 reps(legs were just exhausted here)

step ups on bench……….15kg plate in hands………3 sets x 16 reps

I was pretty happy with this workout and had more energy than I expected, I’m also feeling pretty great about the 100kg hack squat - didnt go as low as with 80kgs but low enough for a good squat and burn.

Fabulous day to you all, smile and choose to be happy…

Interpreting results and moving ahead…

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

It seems this is an issue most of us battle with - I get a lot of pm’s from people that find it hard to move ahead and are stuck in certain places in their lives and feel like they’ve failed themselves, either in business or in fitness - simple things like controlling ones appetite or getting despondent after trying something new and having it totally not work out for them - instead of mapping out a different action plan some sink into negativity. The super successes of our culture are not people that do not fail, but simply people who know that if they try something and it doesnt give them what they want, they’ve had a learning experience. Think about this :- the one benefit you have today over yesterday is ‘experience’ People who believe in failure are guaranteed a mediocre existence. Failing is something that is just not percieved by people who achieve greatness…Heres someones life history for you………..

Failed in business at age 21.

Was defeated in a legislative race at age 22.

Failed again in business at age 24.

Overcame the death of his sweetheart at age 26.

Had a nervous breakdown at age 27.

Lost a congressional race at age 34.

Lost a congressional race at age 36.

Lost a senatorial race at age 45.

Falied in an effort to become vice -president at age 47.

Lost a senatorial race at age 49.

Was elected president of the United States at age 52.

This man’s name was Abraham Lincoln. If he had seen these events as failures, its unlikely he would have become president. Theres a famous story about Thomas Edison, after he tried 9,999 times to perfect the lightbulb and hant suceeded, someone asked him, "are you going to have to have ten thousand failures?"He answered, "I didnt fail. I just discovered another way not to invent the lightbulb" He had discovered how another set of actions had produced a different result. The say the definition of insanity is not running into a wall a thousand times, it is doing so and expecting a different result. If its not working - it doesnt mean failure - it means a new plan of action.

"Our doubts are traitors, And make us lose the good we oft might win, By fearing to attempt."

- William Shakespeare

I worked my chest today and had a great workout:-

pushups …………….30, 30, 20.

flat chest press dumbells……………13kgs each x 5 sets x 5reps

incline press dumbells…………13kgs each x 5 sets x 5reps

incline flyes dumbells……………12kgs each x 5 sets x 5 reps

cable cross overs(low)………….15kgs x 3 sets x 10 reps

cable cross overs(high)…………20kgs x 4 sets x 6 reps

machine press…………30kgs x 5 sets x 5 reps

roman twists with stick behind head on decline bench………….3 sets x 20reps(abs)

That was my workout - I feel like I could have done more but a lady at the gym today took up a bit of my time asking some stuff about cables etc. and of course I helped, so I lost some time there but hopefully I caused enough damage to some some progress.

So I havent stopped smiling.

Wishing you guys a terrific day full of laughter and joy - and make that action plan and put your life in overdrive..

How beautiful is this…..

The Rose

John Blanchard stood up from the bench, straightened his Army uniform, and

studied the crowd of people making their way through Grand Central Station.

He looked for the girl whose heart he knew, but whose face he didn’t, the

girl with the rose. His interest in her had begun thirteen months before in

a Florida library. Taking a book off the shelf he found himself intrigued,

not with the words of the book, but with the notes penciled in the margin.

The soft handwriting reflected a thoughtful soul and insightful mind. In the

front of the book, he discovered the previous owner’s name, Miss Hollis

Maynell. With time and effort he located her address. She lived in New York

City. He wrote her a letter introducing himself and inviting her to

correspond. The next day he was shipped overseas for service in World War

II. During the next year and one month the two grew to know each other

through the mail. Each letter was a seed falling on a fertile heart. A

romance was budding. Blanchard requested a photograph, but she refused. She

felt that if he really cared, it wouldn’t matter what she looked like. When

the day finally came for him to return from Europe, they scheduled their

first meeting - 7:00 PM at the Grand Central Station in New York. “You’ll

recognize me,” she wrote, “by the red rose I’ll be wearing on my lapel.” So

at 7:00 he was in the station looking for a girl whose heart he loved, but

whose face he’d never seen. I’ll let Mr. Blanchard tell you what happened:

A young woman was coming toward me, her figure long and slim. Her blonde

hair lay back in curls from her delicate ears; her eyes were blue as

flowers. Her lips and chin had a gentle firmness, and in her pale green suit

she was like springtime come alive. I started toward her, entirely

forgetting to notice that she was not wearing a rose. As I moved, a small,

provocative smile curved her lips. “Going my way, sailor?” she murmured.

Almost uncontrollably I made one step closer to her, and then I saw Hollis

Maynell. She was standing almost directly behind the girl. A woman well past

40, she had graying hair tucked under a worn hat. She was more than plump,

her thick-ankled feet thrust into low-heeled shoes. The girl in the green

suit was walking quickly away. I felt as though I was split in two, so keen

was my desire to follow her, and yet so deep was my longing for the woman

whose spirit had truly companioned me and upheld my own. And there she

stood. Her pale, plump face was gentle and sensible, her gray eyes had a

warm and kindly twinkle. I did not hesitate. My fingers gripped the small

worn blue leather copy of the book that was to identify me to her. This

would not be love, but it would be something precious, something perhaps

even better than love, a friendship for which I had been and must ever be

grateful. I squared my shoulders and saluted and held out the book to the

woman, even though while I spoke I felt choked by the bitterness of my

disappointment. “I’m Lieutenant

John Blanchard, and you must be Miss Maynell. I am so glad you could meet

me; may I take you to dinner?” The woman’s face broadened into a tolerant

smile. “I don’t know what this is about, son,” she answered, “but the young

lady in the green suit who just went by, she begged me to wear this rose on

my coat. And she said if you were to ask me out to dinner, I should go and

tell you that she is waiting for you in the big restaurant across the

street. She said it was some kind of test!” It’s not difficult to understand

and admire Miss Maynell’s wisdom. The true nature of a heart is seen in its

response to the unattractive.

“Tell me whom you love,” Houssaye wrote, “And I will tell you who you

are…”

Thats a beautiful and very true story sent to me today.

So heres my workout today:-

pull ups…………….10 again!!!! I did it! then 8 and then 7

deadlifts on smith machine standing on step……….40kgs x 3 sets of 8(doing this on the smith felt very different andmuch harder than doing them with a barbell - for me it puts more emphasis on the middle back)

barbell deadlifts………….55kgs x 3 sets x 8 reps

t bar rows…………………………….30kgs x 5 sets x 5 reps

lat pull downs…………………45kgs x 5 sets x 5 reps (tried for 50kgs here but form was not great)

seated cable rows………………45kgs x 5 sets x 5 reps

one arm dumbell rows…………….22kgs x 5 reps x 5 sets (per arm)

standing lat pulldowns at cables…………35kgs x 7 sets x 10 reps (just felt inspired here)

back extensions with 10kg plate…………….3 sets x 15 reps

seated calf raises……………….45kgs x 5 sets x 15 reps, 1 set x 20 reps

seated calf raises, drop sets……….75kgs x 10 reps, 60kgs x 10 reps, 45kgs x 10 reps (did this 3 times and was actually had tears streaming from the pain ( had a friend help me get the plates off )

I really enjoyed this workout and totally love the feeling of being able to do 10 pullups. I had the best day ever - got to speak to a friend and that just made my day. Yes you, you may read this - you made my day - thank you.

“It is the joy within that creates a magnificent life on the outside. It doesnt matter where you are, who you are with, or what is happening around you, you take the joy with you.”

Fabulous day to you and those you love.

Moral Issues…

Saturday, May 24th, 2008

Lesson 1: Naked Wife

A man is getting into the shower just as his wife is finishing up her shower when the doorbell rings. The wife quickly wraps herself in a towel and runs downstairs. When she opens the door, there stands Bob, the next door neighbor. Before she says a word, Bob says, "I’ll give you $800 to drop that towel." After thinking for a moment, the woman drops her towel and stands naked in front of Bob.

After a few seconds, Bob hands her $800 dollars and leaves. The woman wraps back up in the towel and goes back upstairs. When she gets to the bathroom, her husband asks,…

"Who was that?" "It was Bob the next door neighbor," she replies. "Great!" the husband says, "Did he say anything about the $800 he owes me?"

Moral of the story:
If you share critical information pertaining to credit and risk with your shareholders in time, you may be in a position to prevent avoidable exposure.

Lesson 2

A sales rep, an administration clerk, and the manager are walking to lunch when they find an antique oil lamp. They rub it and a Genie comes out. The Genie says, “I’ll give each of you just one wish” “Me first! Me first!” says the admin. clerk. “I want to be in the Bahamas, driving a speedboat, without a care in the world.” Poof! She’s gone. “Me next! Me next!” says the sales rep. “I want to be in Hawaii, relaxing on the beach with my personal masseuse, an endless supply of Pina Coladas and the love of my life.” Poof! He’s gone. “OK, you’re up,” the Genie says to the manager. The manager says, “I want those two back in the office after lunch.”

Moral of the story: Always let your boss have the first say.

Lesson 3

A crow was sitting on a tree, doing nothing all day. A rabbit asked him,”Can I also sit like you and do nothing all day long?” The crow answered: “Sure, why not.” So, the rabbit sat on the ground below the crow, and rested.

A fox jumped on the rabbit and ate it.

Moral of the story: To be sitting and doing nothing, you must be sitting very high up.

Hope you enjoyed those - a friend sent it to me a while ago - did some abs and calves today:-

hanging leg raises with 8kg ankle weights…….4×15 (using the ankle weights as its hard me to do this exercise with a dumbell between the feet and its much better with the ankle weights.

decline crunch -4kg dumbell behind head…………….3 x 10reps

roman twists on decline bench…………….3 x 16 (used the stick )

cable crunch…………………………….4 sets x 45kgs x 13/14 reps

cable crunch again with rope……..3 sets x 12 reps x 40kgs

cable side crunches………………….25kgs each side x 3 sets x 20 reps

woodchopper on cables…………….15kgs 3 sets x 12 reps per side

leg raises on roman chair……..with 8kg ankle weights..3 sets x 20 reps, 3 sets x 16 reps(to the side)

ball crunches with 10kg plate over head…………….3 sets x 14 reps

ball crunches no weight……………3 sets x 20 reps

seated decline bench with 6 kg medicine ball………………….3 sets x 15 reps, half stop and hold.

jacknife……………3 sets x 14 reps (found with this exercise that when you pull the ball in, instead of keeping leg straight and taking your rear all the way to the top, bend knees and pull the ball in towards your abs - this to me is how it should be done because it gave me an incredible burn.

seated calf raises…………………….45kgs x 5 sets x 15 reps

standing calves(30’s) ……….3 sets x 30 reps(10in/10 out/10 straight)

hamstring extension of back extension machine with 8kg ankle weights - 3 sets x 20reps.

The gym was empty and I had a chance to just take my time, not be watched and just enjoy which was great, so I’m sure these abs will be sore tomorow.

Have an awesome Saturday - laugh until it hurts and have no regrets.

Shine

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate; our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” Marianne Williamson

I love this quote by Marianne Williamson - Like many others I too sometimes find it hard to accept the light shining within me - - maybe like you I hide it to please others. Sometimes we hide what truly makes us shine for fear of judgement - we dont want to appear immodest - I guess nobody likes to be seen as being full of themselves but to truly embrace the greatness that lies within you have to let go of those fears. You were blessed with this gift called life not so that you can be just another statistic or diminish into the crowd. We all possess an inner beauty that if nurtured and brought to fruition allows our light to truly become visible to all - that is the definition of beauty in my eyes. Dont be fearful of the greatness that lies within you, embrace it and let it take through your glorious journey of life - just seeing is really the beginning - stay hungry and pursue your light.

I did my shoulders today, I’ve come to really love Fridays - shoulder day…sweet sweet.

pull ups…………………….10, 6,5 - not so strong today and the 10the rep wasnt the greatest form - I’m gonna work on these until I can do them with little effort.

dumbell press………………………11kgs each x 5 sets x 5reps

side lateral raises……………………9kgs each x 5 sets x 5reps

front raises…………………………..9kgs each x 5 sets x 5reps

machine press(thank you Brian)…..25kgs x 4 sets x 8 reps

upright rows……………………27kgs x 5 sets x 5 reps(last set wasnt great form)

Did some legs….

cable squats…………45kgs x 3 sets x 30 reps

plyo squat jumps on high bench………………5 sets x 10 reps

knee tuck jumps……………………………3 sets x 10 reps

jump lunges……………………………3 sets x 20 reps(alternating legs)

calves………………………………..
….50kgs (seated) x 7 sets x 12 reps

This was a pretty tiring workout - but awesome…I would like to do some abs tomorrow but will have to try to fit in.

Have a wonderful Friday - stay happy and smiling just because you’re alive!! No better reason than that.

Life and stuff……..

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

You cannot make someone love you. All you can do is be someone who can be loved. The rest is up to them.

No matter how much I care some people just don’t care back.

Just because someone doesn’t love you the way you want them to doesn’t mean they don’t love you with all they have.

It takes years to build up trust, and only seconds to destroy it.

It’s not what you have in your life, but whom you have in your life that counts.

Our background and circumstances may have influenced who we are, but we are responsible for who we become.

we are responsible for what we do, no matter how we feel.

Either you control your attitude or it controls you.

Sometimes when I’m angry I have the right to be angry, but that doesn’t give me the right to be cruel.

Maturity has more to do with what types of experiences you’ve had and what you’ve learned from them and less to do with how many birthdays you’ve celebrated.

Two people can look at the exact same thing and see something totally different.

No matter how good a friend is, they’re going to hurt you every once in a while and you must forgive them for that.

It isn’t always enough to be forgiven by others. Sometimes you have to learn to forgive yourself.

Just because two people argue, it doesn’t mean they don’t love each other. And, just because they don’t argue, it doesn’t mean they do.

No matter how bad your heart is broken the world doesn’t stop for your grief.

No matter how you try to protect your children, they will eventually get hurt, and you will hurt in the process.

You should never tell a child their dreams are unlikely or outlandish. Few things are more humiliating, and what a tragedy it would be if they believed it.

Heroes are people who do what has to be done when it needs to be done, regardless of the consequences.

You can keep going long after you can’t.

I did my bi’s and tri’s today - awesome workout - didnt do great weight but had the veiny thing going on for about 2 hours after………

Did dips but on the roman chair where you do leg raises, apparently this apparatus is much safer for your shoulders than the standard dip apparatus. did 3 sets of 10, really battled on the last 5 of the last set but completed them.

Barbell curls………………………………..2
5kgs x 5 sets x 5 reps

inclined dumbell curls…………………….11kgs each x 5 sets x 5 reps

seated dumbell curls………………………12kgseach x 5 sets x 5 reps

one arm preacher curls with 8kg dumbell……………………3 sets x 10 reps per arm, my wrists were really sore at this stage and was totally battling - have no idea whats going on with them, well just the right wrist - awful pain - so I’ll load up on gluatmine.

tricep pulldowns………………………40kgs x5 sets x 5 reps

behind the head rope………………….25kgs x 5 sets x 5 reps

skull crushers………………………..12kgs x 3 sets x 10 reps

dips with 15 kg plate - legs on bench………………3 sets x 25 kgs - this was fab cause I used to find this really hard, could have done more weight I think.

Great workout - really enjoyed it …….I am so grateful to be able to lift and run and walk, those of us that can do these things are truly blessed and we should never forget that, its easy to settle into daily routines living as if life will just make a guaranteed appearance tomorrow - the truth is that there are no guarantees - so choose to be happy today - live as if you’ve already accomplished your goals - treasure the moment and the people that you are fortunate enough to be surrounded by………have a stunning day.

Maybe you’re already there??

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

A boat docked in a tiny Mexican village. An American tourist complimented the Mexican fisherman on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took him to catch them.

“Not very long,” answered the Mexican.

“But then, why didn’t you stay out longer and catch more?” asked the American.

The Mexican explained that his small catch was sufficient to meet his needs and those of his family.

The American asked, “But what do you do with the rest of your time?”

“I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, and take a siesta with my wife. In the evenings, I go into the village to see my friends, have a few drinks, play the guitar, and sing a few songs. I have a full life.”

The American interrupted, “I have an MBA from Harvard and I can help you! You should start by fishing longer every day. You can then sell the extra fish you catch. With the extra revenue, you can buy a bigger boat.”

“And after that?” asked the Mexican.

“With the extra money the larger boat will bring, you can buy a second one and a third one and so on until you have an entire fleet of trawlers. Instead of selling your fish to a middle man, you can then negotiate directly with the processing plants and maybe even open your own plant. You can then leave this little village and move to Mexico City, Los Angeles, or even New York City ! From there you can direct your huge new enterprise.”

“How long would that take?” asked the Mexican.

“Twenty, perhaps twenty-five years,” replied the American.

“And after that?”

“Afterwards? Well my friend, that’s when it gets really interesting,” answered the American, laughing. “When your business gets really big, you can start buying and selling stocks and make millions!”

“Millions? Really? And after that?” asked the Mexican.

“After that you’ll be able to retire, live in a tiny village near the coast, sleep late, play with your children, catch a few fish, take a siesta with your wife and spend your evenings drinking and enjoying your friends.”

The moral of this story … Know where you’re going in life… you may already be there.

I did my legs today, was short on time as had a few meetings one after the other - but it was fabulous and I loved it…..

barbell squats………………………….50kgs x 3 set x 10reps

hack squats…………………………….85kg
s x 4 sets x 12 reps (this was a great improvement here)

walking lunges…………………………..12kgs each x 3 sets of 30 steps

barbell alternate lunge……………………..25kgs x 3 sets x 20 reps

steps up with plate………………………..15kgs x 3 sets x 20 reps

leg extensions………………………..30kgs x 3 sets x 8 reps

leg raises on extension………………3 sets x 40 reps

I tried to do leg curls after this but my legs were trembling and I couldnt lift anymore so I guess I must have worked. I had an awesome day, met some terrific people and feeling super terrific. So I hope that you have a beautiful day and remember that sometimes we forget to see how much we are already blessed with - even though its important to keep striving for your goals - dont forget to enjoy the journey and count your blessings.
