Muscle Overload……….

Monday, June 30th, 2008
I was kinda bummed out today after reading an article in Muscle Mag today.  It was a short biography on a professional bodybuilder that I really admired growing up back in the mid-90’s.  He had the most awesome body symmetry.  The top thing that got my attention was that this professional body builder only 38  years old had suffered a heart attack in 2004 in addition to this he has a defibrillator permanently implanted in his chest due to his weak heart(which is only functioning at 25%).  I was so astounded by this news and couldn’t figure out how a man that looked to be the picture of health and who had no family history of any heart ailments was in such poor health at such a young age.  Come to find out the reason for this was that he was using “Steroids”.  Excuse this in advance buy what the hell!  Why are so many men and women  damaging their bodies that they spend hours in the gym perfecting?  Now don’t misconstrue  what I’m saying I completely understand those who have to take prescription steroids legally via doctor’s orders for health reasons (arthritis, lupus, respiratory function, etc..) but those who are in perfect health what the hell’s wrong with them.  A muscular body  is beautiful but there is a human genetic limit for some and it’s not worth premature death. Ok I’m stepping off my soap box, sorry if I hurt anyone’s toes……….

The True Health of Bodybuilding?

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

As I read the recent MuscleMag magazine this month (for Oct 2007) in addition to the previous 2 months I have grown increasingly concerned about the sport of bodybuilding.  I just read this month about a pro bodybuilder that had to undergo kidney dialysis (he was only in his 30’s and looks awesome) the month before I read about a bodybuilder who suffered a massive stroke in his own work out studio (who as well looked to be the picture of health) are these just flukes or what? I so look up to the men and women in these articles and admire their passion and so badly want to be on the same level one day soon; however, it really freaks me out to see all these young healthy beautiful people suffer such serious illnesses while still in their youth.
