Killing time

November 2, 2008

I’m working at the gym right now.  Like most Sunday evenings, it’s pretty dead.  I’ve got another hour.  Watching the clock til then.  I’m finally going to be full-time here in January.  I’m very excited about that.  No longer will I have to kill myself 7 days a week  jumping from job to job just to make enough to cover the bills.  That all ends soon.  I’ll be working fewer hours and making more money.  Word.  My time here will be split between personal training, aerobics instruction, and general fitness staff duties.  It’s going to be nice to have some sort of set schedule again.   Although I have to say that I’m going to miss working at Rocky’s Supplement Shop.  I’ve learned a lot from being there.  But it’s definitely time to move on.  Hopefully Rocky will continue to hook me up with a plethora of free samples after I’m gone.  Free stuff is cool.

My legs are sore from yesterday’s workout.  This morning I soaked in epsom salt and did some light yoga.  All about the healing, baby.

Time to rack weights.

I wish I could go home.

Cut Week #2

August 11, 2008

I’m on the second week of my cut diet.  I’m feeling surprisingly good and have already lost an inch in my waist.  Saturday night was my planned cheat meal.  I was at a wedding reception, so it consisted of 2 slices of wedding cake and half a bottle of champagne.  The cake was yummy and the champagne was bubbly.  I slept very well that night.

So my plan was to slowly lower my carbs for a few weeks, easing myself into a ketogenic diet.  But I decided to go balls to the walls and just do it.  So yesterday I kicked off what is basically Dave Palumbo’s diet.  So far so good.

I instructed my first Pilates class this past Thursday.  It was good.  Everything flowed really well.  The participants were mostly beginners with a couple intermediates and one advanced.  Pilates takes concentration and I was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to perform each exercise while instructing, but it wasn’t really a problem.  And I didn’t have to look at my notes once.  Exciting.

Time to eat.  Eggs.  Mmmm.

August

August 2, 2008

I am so glad that July is finally over.  It was way too busy and stressful.  So here we are in August.  No complaints thus far.  I have high hopes for this month.

I started a cut diet today.  I’ll be on it for the next few weeks.  Hopefully after that I’ll feel comfortable enough to take some progress pics.  I’m overdue for those.

Work is work.  Some days I like it, some days I don’t.  But that’s how it is with any job, right?

I’ve nothing more to say right now.  It’s just been a while since my last post, so I thought I should write something.  More later.

New Shoes

July 11, 2008

I got new shoes.  These are they:

I care for them a great deal.  I’d take them out for a spin, but my legs are on strike right now.  Tomorrow.

Stick a fork in me.

July 10, 2008

It’s been a jam-packed day.  I’m so exhausted.  I kicked off the day with a hard and heavy leg workout.  Between sets I got to talking to this trainer from New Orleans that I met the other day.  He’s trained a lot of girls for competition, so he had a lot of helpful tips for me.  He showed me some pictures of a few of his "angels" as he called them.  Extremely impressive-looking girls.  One of them was actually Ms. Louisiana a few years ago.  So he sent me home with some reading material and wants to talk more later.  After that I went to work until five.  It was a super busy day there.  Then immediately after work I met one of my coworkers at Walmart to help her grocery shop.  She wants some help in cleaning up her diet so she asked if I would shop with her.  So I did.  And Walmart was, well, just as awful as Walmart always is.  But we got in and out relatively fast.  Now I’m vegging-out on my couch watching Hellboy.  I need to clean the kitchen, but my legs are begging for rest - and so is the rest of me for that matter.  So I’m just clocking out for the night.  I already have on my pjs and everything.  This girl needs a break.

A massage really would be the best thing ever right now.

“If You Ran Without Sacrifice…”

July 6, 2008

"Congratulations.  You Just Jogged."

That was a running ad I saw in Runner’s World magazine.  I thought it was pretty awesome.

It’s Sunday.  A new week has begun.  I got my cardio in this morning with a run to and through the graveyard.  (And yes, there was sacrifice.) This evening I’m working back and abs.  Until then I have to work on a case study for my nutrition course.  I’m finding it hard to focus.  I just don’t feel like doing this stuff right now.  But there’s a deadline to be met, so I really can’t waste any more time.  I just have to do it.

My Blueberry Nights

July 4, 2008

Every heard of it?  I hadn’t until today.  It’s a movie starring Jude Law and Norah Jones (Yes, the singer.  I didn’t realize that she acted either.  She’s not bad).  Rachel Weisz is also in it.  And I just love her.  Anyway, it was one of those impulse rentals.  I saw it on the shelf at Blockbuster and was curious.  It’s hard for me to watch movies by myself.  I get distracted and always end up constantly pressing pause or just turning the movie off completely.  But I actually made it through this one (although there were some pauses here and there).  It served as a nice distraction from life.

I went for a really long run this morning.  It wasn’t supposed to be a long run, but I got lost in my head and just kept going…and going.  It was really therapeutic up until the sun came out full force.  That’s when it finally occurred to me to turn around.

I think I’m going to rent another movie now.

There Goes My Hero

July 2, 2008

Today started out pretty good.  My calves were still sore, but I went to another step class this morning anyway.  It was taught by a different instructor than the one on Monday and all I have to say is "Damn."  This woman was a freaking drill sergeant.  I was completely exhausted by the end of the class.  It was awesome.  Seriously, she’s my hero.  I am so taking every single class that she teaches.  Tomorrow morning is Pilates.  It’s actually the first day of this particular pilates class.  People were complaining that the one being offered wasn’t difficult enough, so they tacked on another one with a different instructor.  It’s being taught by some former Russian dancer.  I haven’t met her yet but I hear good things.  I am very much looking forward to it. I also have to get a leg workout in at some point tomorrow.  I have a feeling I’m going to have to fit that in while I’m on the clock.  That’s one of the perks from working at the gym: I always have time for a workout.  (But on the flip side: I never have an excuse for missing a workout)

My stomach hurts.  I need some pepto.  Did you know that they make grape-floavored pepto now?  They do.  I liked it at first, but now I think it’s just awful.  Some words of wisdom: always go with the cherry-flavored pepto.

There’s too much empty space on the couch.

*sigh*

Sore Calves and Poo-Poo Diapers

July 1, 2008

My calves are crazy sore today.  I didn’t realize I was doing it at the time, but I stayed up on my toes throughout the entire step class yesterday.  Hence the calf soreness today.  Tonight I’m going to Cardio Fusion.

So I was at the gym this morning and in the middle of a set of ez bar curls I hear my mother being paged to the nursery.  I didn’t realize that she was at the gym, but apparently she was. If the nursery was paging her I assumed it was because she had dropped off my nephew and there must be some sort of problem.  For some reason I immediately panicked.  So I sprinted down to the nursery to see what could possibly be wrong with my nephew.  I got there, told the nursery staff who I was, and they said, "He pooped."  I was confused.  Babies poop.  That’s what they do.  What was the problem?  Well, as it turns out, the nursery staff enforces a strict "We don’t change diapers" rule.  And anytime a baby dirties his diaper, the guardian must come down and change him.  A nursery that refuses to change diapers.  Crazy.  So I changed the little man’s diaper and went back to my workout.  I just thought that was the strangest thing.  And apparently my mom never heard the page anyway.  Good thing I went down there or else my nephew would have had to sit in his own feces for an hour.

Yesterday was my last day at Premier Athletic.  No tears were shed.
