BBQ Surprise!
July 3, 2009
This afternoon was a lazy one. My little slept until around 9. I was up at close to 7. I am taking full advantage of this vacation. I had my morning workout under my belt and planned to spend the rest of the day doing absolutely nothing. It is my birthday and that was what I chose to do. I couldn’t have a proper meal because it is the beginning of my Peak Weak so I decided to postpone that until next week. My husband went out to get his workout done–or so I thought. He says that he is going to be home between two or three. Ok, I say. He calls and suggests that we go get sushi.
"This is my Peak Weak. I can’t have that." I was really annoyed that he would even suggest that. I’m not carbing up until Saturday. And at this point, if I can’t count it I don’t eat it.
"What about some ice cream?" I am sure my facial expression is reading–are you serious?
"I can’t have that, either." I said with increasing frustration.
"Let’s go get a granola bar". He insists.
"That doesn’t fit into my macros! I’m cutting." Now, I am wondering how he could offer a bar of processed carbs to me.
Exasperated, he finally says, "We need to pick up your gift."
"Ohhh."
I wasn’t expecting anything, just a quiet day a home. We drive for about 15 minutes to a local park. I look out the window and he has planned a surprise BBQ with my closest friends. He pulled it off. I had no idea. He had already warned them that I probably wouldn’t eat much. Well, it was obvious that I wouldn’t make my evening training session with Billy, so I pull out I phone to cancel. And , who walks up?
There were turkey burgers and regular burgers. And there were two huge sheet cakes. One of from my favorite bakery! But the plan was to freeze what was left and devour it next week. There are about 5 brick-sized parcels in the freezer, right now–just begging to be eaten. I think the best part was the gift that my husband made for himself.

He made several and is going to wear his to the competition next week! It was just a great day. I typically don’t have a party or ‘do’ anything because of the holiday. But this was special and won’t be forgotten! I know I am not easy to live with, especially right now. I’m picky, grumpy, and hungry. I don’t want to be around too many people nor do I talk much. I wake up early in the morning and make noise in the kitchen. I probably disturb him when I use the bathroom for the umpteenth time during the night. But, he never complains. Thank you husband–love you!
