Been working some killer hours, roughly 13-14 hours a night and my time off is rest time. AKA knocked the hell out time. This has been going on for about a month and keeping me out of the gym. Granted, we do have PT at work but that’s mainly running.
I just got up and looked in the mirror and saw a fricken lean little twig staring back at me… time to rework my schedule! It might get me a little tired at first but I know the extra energy i’ll get later will be worth it. Working 3 on, 3 off, 2 on, 2 off schedules will make my work out times kinda irratic but better than just sleeping my time away!

over the past couple weeks I’ve been getting more proactive about my health. While I was brushing my teeth tonight I noticed my lip was kind of touchy. When I looked a little closer I noticed what appeared to be the beginnings of Leukoplakia. Beyond that my gum line is practically non-existent. I’ve always had great teeth despite smoking and dipping since I was 13. It finally caught up to me. Lord knows I’m going to be a flaming ******* for a couple weeks but it’s all good. Plus the fact that I dip about a can or so a day the high prices here are getting to me so I’ll have more money for the real essentials.

Now that I’m at my base it’s time for me to work on the new me. I have the chance to prove myself to not only my superiors but myself. My squadron places physical fitness at a high standard. If I want to be competitive when the time comes for BTZ (below the zone for non-USAF) Senior Airman I have to excel in my PT. I was lazy over my leave and felt it when I went of my first run here (climate change didn’t help either). I’ve quit smoking for good, though I still dip occasionally (keeps me from eatting junk and being in a shitty mood). I’m spending most of my time polishing my boots, PTing in my dorm room and running. Not necessarily in that order!
Tomorrow, I start my FTAC briefings (First Term Airman Center). Conveniently the base gym is across the street so that means I have no excuse not to hit the gym after the briefings. The gym is pretty good here, machines, free weights, running tracks, football fields, and a pool. I’ll just toss my gear in my backpack so I’m ready at the 1600 dismissal for the day.
My diet could certainly be improved here. I’ve been going for the healthier options, salad instead of burgers, etc… It’s free food so I can’t complain but I prefer making my own food, which in alaska is expensive! $5-6 a gal for milk and I crush at least 1.5 gal a day. I had a 4 day weekend so I had a cheater meal after my saturday run. Mt Dew and ramien noodles, thought I was gunna get sick, haven’t had pop or ramien since I joined!
Overall I see improvements in my body appearance and stamina wise. I’m not as big as I was when I joined but I’ve got a nice lean slate to start again with (no pun intended).

Clean slate…

In preporation for joining the USAF I worked my ass off to get into tiptop shape. I hit the gym nearly everyday and went running every night. It proved helpful until my 7th week of basic. Our flight caught a stomach virus that left us on bed rest for two weeks. Most of the muscle mass I fought to build up was eatten away and now I’m left more or less looking like a toothpick. During my two weeks of leave I’ve been loading on some mass builders and hitting the gym. I’ve noticed some changes but rome wasn’t built in a day…

Fresh home on leave… a fricken stick…
