BACK TO THE GRIND

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

Well, I am feeling sufficiently well enough after my broken ribs to get back to a regular schedule.  For the past three months I have been limited to the eliptical machine.  This week I started running again and using some weight.  Monday I ran 4 miles and did Chest and Back.  Tuesday I ran 4.5 miles and did some USMC CFT training.  (It kicked my butt after that 4.5 run!).  The CFT Training consisted of two segments.  First we warmed up with a light jog and dynamic stretchinig.  Then we started the segments.  The first segment was overhead presses with a 30lb ammo can, supersetted with star jumpers.  We started at 15 reps each and went to 35 reps in 5 rep increments.  Then we went to the second segment.  This required a 25 yard crawl, then 25 yard low crawl with a sprint back to the start.  This was done for 4 four sets.  Next we finished up with an 880 sprint in boots and utilities with max effort pullup set.  WOW, I was tore up from the floor up!  Today I ran 5 miles and did more CFT training.  Todays variety included a 50 yard carry and drag of another marine.  A drop for 10 pushups, and then a 50 yard fireman’s carry.  This was done for two reps.  Then we went into two sets of max vertical pushups.  The next segment was a combination of suicide sprints with star jumpers at each yardage marker for 25, 50, 75, and 100 yards.  Then we did suicide with 10 pushups at each yardage marker.  The warm up and cool down were the same as on Tuesday.  Great workout but not fun for someone just coming off broken ribs.

Ciao for now

PRETTY SORE TODAY

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

Well, I had a great workout last night.  I did 40 minutes of cardio followed by quads and tris.  I did squats, sled and extensions for the quads.  I did reverse grip push downs, regular grip pushdowns and "v" grip pushdowns for tris.  I did these as giant sets so the sweat was pouring off me!  I think my legs will get back at me today when I go for my 6 mile run.  OUCH.

THE SAME OLD, SAME OLD

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

Well I was getting changed over for PT and that song came into my head.  Some of you might know it.  "Here we go again, same old stuff again.  Running down the avenue, 6 more months and we’ll be through".  Well, I have been running around Lake O’Neil 4-5 times per week for the last couple months.  It is beautiful, but now it is just the same old run.  My running partner is on leave since Wednesday.  I had to run by myself yesterday and I did ok.  But two days in a row, how do I stay motivated for that?  I mean, I don’t mind running, but I am a people person.  The need to be around people is in my DNA.  I need to run with people!!  If I have a character flaw, that is it.  My dependence on being aroung people.  I just love it.  I am a clown and I like to show off.  What can I say.  A kid at heart!  No fun being a clown with no audience.  Well needless to say I struggled through it but did my 4 miles.  I believe being by myself motivated me to run it faster than usual.  I think I finish it between 23 and 24 minutes.  Tomorrow will be the same.  By myself on a run and trying to crack myself up.  Wish me luck!

DIET CONCERNS

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

Well the workouts are going great.  I have not missed cardio and the P90X workouts are great.  I am still able to get my weights done as well.  My problem is getting my diet down.  I need some advice/tips on how I can stick to eating right.  It is hard with me because I am a Marine, and between my commute and my hours, it is difficult to fuel the body correctly.  Can anyone make suggestions?  Help…….

GREAT TRAINING DAY - AREN’T THEY ALL!

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

Well, I have had a good day of training so far.  I started with my P90X, Kemp X routine this morning at 5:30am.  I really enjoy this workout.  It takes me back to my Martial Arts roots.  The hour routine really flys by on this one.  I did it high itensity and really worked up a good sweat.  I just finished my cardio run.  I did Lake O’Neil with a twist.  I threw in a couple of the hills that surround the outskirts of the lake.  My butt and quads were on fire!  I did not time myself for this run, because I planned on throwing in the hills and just wanted to feel the burn.  The total distance was about 4 1/2 miles.  I plan on doing a little bis and tris this afternoon to finish the day.  GO FLYERS!!!

P90X-Two Weeks Complete

Friday, April 25th, 2008

Well, I have completed two weeks of P90X.  I must say I love the variety of the workouts and the intensity!  I will have to take some updated pics to post.  I am not sure how much progress I am making other than I have lost a few pounds.

P90X - Days one and two

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

Well, I have completed the first two days of P90X.  WOW.  Actually I have been doing three a days (cardio, weight lifting and the P90X routine), in hopes of making quick progress.  I did about 4 miles running then worked Chest and Back in the gym.  After I got home I did my P90X routine, Chest and Back.  If you are not familiar with the system, it requires supersets of pushups and pull ups of different varieties.  It is an hour long.  After that there is a 16 minute ab routine.  On day two I did my 4 miles and worked Bis in the gym and the P90X workout was plyometrics.  These are cardio movements that are sports oriented.  This was also an hour long routine.  Today will be shoulders and arms for the P90X, and I plan to do four miles plus some calf work.

Friday, April 4th, 2008

Well, I have been back home to Philly for the last two weeks.  I have done well with my diet but have not been able to get real intense workouts.  I did go to New York for three days and did alot of walking.  I can’t wait to hit it hard on Sunday when I get back to Cali.

Transformation

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

Well my friends in Fitness.  I just received my P90X package last night in the mail.  I am getting excited thinking about the program and really hitting it hard.  I will be away for two weeks and during that time I will continue my cardio (running) and will at least get in some workouts.  I hope I can rely on all your support during this 90 day period.  All words of encouragment and any helpful hints will be greatly appreciated.

GO STRONG FOR THE TOP…

Day 1

Monday, March 17th, 2008

OK folks, here goes.  Day one of my 90 day transition.  I did a 3.5 mile run this afternoon.  It went well and I kept an 8:20 pace.  My plan is to go and have a light dinner for St Patty’s day and then get a workout.  I will try to hit bi’s and abs hard.  I plan another good run tomorrow and chest and tri’s for my workout.  I will see how it goes.  I ate well so far today.  Bowl of cereal this morning, a yogurt and I will have dinner.
