Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

Im doing a daring thing and its gonna be tough. Im riding down to las vegas from cheyenne tomorrow. Gonna TRY, and im sure I will, to arrive in one day. I come back sunday, and Im gonna take my jump rope to at least do some sort of workout while Im down there and hit the gym at least once. Im probably gonna gain some weight and lose muscle, sucks! ITS VEGAS! We’ll see what happens.

What happens in vegas, stays in vegas….but what we bring back shows in the gut so, crap!

I leg pressed 360!

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

Im excited about it! My quads dont feel the same way. Narrow footing 10 reps twice, then on the 3rd set 9th rep, they gave out. I dropped the weight to 320, and then did 12 reps. a minute and 30 seconds of rest time in between all sets.

I also increased weight on barbell calf raises on the smith machine to 240 from 220. I guess that ain’t a lot more, but its moving up. 18, 15, 12, all 1:30 rest except on the last where I rested for 2 minutes, then repped out 15 again. I had to go a tad lighter than I usually do on the other 3 exercises: Barbell Lunges, Barbell ’side to side’, Romanian Deadlifts.

Upon leaving the gym, I stepped down off the curb and I almost went ALL the way down! That would have been pretty funny. Then getting home walking up 5 steps to my door was a slight challange. I think I did good today! My legs are cursing me, though.

One of the many downsides of the Armed Forces

Monday, October 27th, 2008

I had to go attend physical training this morning at 8am. I had just done an awesome chest workout the night prior, and today was gonna be my back day. Knowing I had to endure some sort of ‘out of my routine’ workout, I show up in just uniform. (I really wish they would leave the servicemen/women that workout regularly on their own, alone!) I get there, and then they tell us to do our own thing, just be at work by 9:30. DAMNIT! Well, shoot, if I would have known that, I would have brought all my gear and done my back workout in the morning! Oh well, I do a CAF workout. Calves, Abs, Forearms, just making it up as I go. I workout for 45 minutes, cause I have no motivation, and leave to go to work.

Well, I still wanted to do Back tonight, but as sluggish and light as that morning workout was, it wore me out this afternoon. I was tired and drained, but like I said in my previous blog, just GO. So I went to the gym to do back. I guess it started out okay, I was able to deadlift 190lbs, which is a new record for me. But thats about it. Chin ups slowly lagged, couldnt find a right weight on close grip cable rows, and bent over barbell rows was ridiculous. I use the grip assist thingys too, but I just could not get it right. I did not blame the lagging on the morning workout, it wasn’t even on my mind. But I think it did have some sort of effect. I dont workout twice in one day. In the end, at least my back is burning, which is a good sign. I also did a 20 minute interval run on the treadmill afterwards, even though I told myself I wasn’t gonna do cardio on the way to the gym. I felt that I did not get as good of benefit from the back workout that I should have, so I did some cardio.

Tomorrow is legs. 5 workouts, all heavy. We’ll see how it goes. Anyway, thats my story.

Just go.

Sunday, October 26th, 2008

I almost didn’t go to the gym today. I was sore, tired, and still a bit hungover from the previous night. I was just gonna skip today and feel the guilt.

I don’t know if anyone has that one song that pumps them up. Mine currently is Rock & Roll Train by AC/DC off their new album. It came up randomly on my itunes while I was on the internet, and I got that pump. I said, **** it, Im going. I took my pre workout drink, jotted down a chest and ab workout, grabbed my gear and went out the door. It was a last second decision and Im glad I did it. Now my chest is burning, my tri’s are finished (I worked out arms yesterday) and we’ll see with my abs. I wonder if thats all it takes. Once Im there, Im thinkin, ‘Shoot, Im here. Might as well do something!’.

So, Im gonna do that from now on. It’ll definitely help on the days where I feel like being lazy and can use a long work day as an excuse on not to go. Of course, then feel guilty on not going. So thats my new motto

Just go

“Throw on your chef hat and get creative!”

Saturday, October 25th, 2008

That was said in Muscle&Fitness a couple of months ago in regards to making protein shakes. So, months later, I try it out. A quick sandwich, 5 minutes at tops. And I took some tips from other articles on BB.com on tuna recipes.

1 smal bag of tuna into a bowl.

Cottage cheese to equal the amount of tuna in the bowl.

1 whole lemon squeezed into the bowl.

Mix and pour all into a pan already preheated on medium and stir for about 3-5 minutes.

I put the contents onto wheat bread and made me a sandwich, which I also places a slice of american cheese that eventually melted. And I had me a glass of milk, yummy!

Now, it wasn’t SPECTACULAR, but it was pretty damn good. At least I thought. If it has a name already, I dont know it. I’ll call it ‘Outta the blue lemon tuna sandwich’. Just thought I’d like to share…

Funny story with an additional thanks!

Saturday, October 25th, 2008

Okay, so to sum up the shitty morning, it was just that. Shitty. Everything that could go wrong, went wrong. And for the record, I cannot get my ass up in the morning to go to the gym, so thats the final time I attempt that.

After work, I jump on my bike and go for a ride, since weather is somewhat appropriate, and here in cheyenne, a bike rider takes what they can get! So my mood is improving. I also find out at a store that one on my favorite foods is high in protein, hardly any fat at all. So Im all sorts of excited to make that for dinner after I work out, and rush out to another store to buy some of the required dishes, and then rush home. At this point, I got an energy pump. So I feed that pump with ’smash pre-workout’ and get to writing out my workout. Shoulders and traps, my fav next to arms, so Im ready. I grab my gym gear, shoes, EVERYTHING I need for the gym. hee hee, well, I got everything I needed FOR the gym…

There I am, standing at my door halfway in halfway out. I feel like Im forgetting something. So I play back in my head what all I put into my bag, ‘Ipod, shoes, gloves, cap is in the van, yes yes yes….’ and Im thinking Im ready to GO! All I need now is to get my ass to the gym and take advantage of this energy pump. So I lock the door from the inside, and close the door behind me…I dont take a step before I realized what I did.

For whatever insane reason, I grabbed my sunglasses instead of my keys. Hmmm…I bust out laughing. There I am, my place is locked, my van is locked, and Im stuck in between. I can’t help but laugh. I knew the only option I had was to call my landlady, and disturb her on a friday night. But I still looked around to see if there was ANY way of getting inside. The whole time, Im just rolling. I could not stop laughing at myself for being a ‘pendejo’. I figured, crap, I got all this energy, might as well put it to some use! So I laughed.

Well, I was able to get inside on my own, but I aint gonna say how. All Im gonna say is, there are times when being small and flexible can come in handy. Thankfully I was only stuck outside for about 10 minutes, made it to the gym, and had an  awesome workout. Got back, and made the dish, and it was DELICIOUS! Even took some new photos of my progress, and found an old one of me that upon seeing it, my only thought was, ‘eww’.

So thats my story, if you didnt think it was funny, oh well. I thought it was hilarious, and I just wanted to share it with this place to show how to keep the motivation in times of ‘oh shit’.

And also, I want to give thanks to EVERYONE, because I am just amazed how everyone just comes together to help out others. I’ve only had a few comments/aid, but thats so much more than I’ve ever had. So thanks for this place, thanks for the motivation, and thanks for accepting me as part of the fitness community.

Yummy yummy YUM YUM! Cottage cheese for everyone!

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

Alright, after reading it in magazines, and on BB.com, I finally went out and bought some cottage cheese. :)    HA, well, never have I had it before. so when I first tried it out before bed in replacement of protien, since its a slow digesting protein, I figured I’d have me about 3 or 4 spoonfulls. YUM!

I sucked up the taste, cause like everything else, the good things for you aint all that great tasting, and the bad things taste EXTRAORDINARY! I figured I’d buy some cinnomon and sprinkle a bit on top (which turned out to be DUMP cinnomon on top) to try and change the flavor. Well, it did, but not so much for the better. Once again I just sucked up the taste, and drank some juice afterwards for a better taste.

So, heres a question for all the cottage cheese lovers. I wanna keep at it, but want to improve the taste. I know theres ways out there, and I’ve read recepies for it. ~~~What are some quick ways to better the flavor before bed without getting fancy or cooking anything? Im lookin for a 2 minute quickie with the cottage cheese before I hit the sack.

…and yes, I am aware of what I said. As disturbingly funny as it sounds, get your mind out of the food gutter.

Tough right now

Consistancy I think is a key ingredient in the whole staying in shape deal. Now that I’ve returned to this location, I realize how hard it actually is to stay consistant with the gym. I just finished a 7 day cycle, but not nessisarily how I intended it. It was four workout days, and 3 off days. The cycle was going to be 2 on, 1 off, 2 on, 2 off and repeat. It was more along the lines of 2 on, 2 off, 1 on, 1 off, 1 on, and I wanted to get right into the next cycle today, but once again due to long work hours (holy hell! 13?!) I just wanted to go home and relax since I might have to do it all again tomorrow. So, Im just gonna go with the flow, and back away from the flow of drinking. Although I dont drink as much as I used to, Im beginning to see why I drank so much before. The stress, the work, and the BULLSHIT! And I aint even doing my regular job yet!

I’ve done too much and accomplished even more in fitness to let it all go to waste and fall back into the drinking habit, and no gym habit. Consistancy, I gotta keep with it. But with me still having to drive my van to the gym, and the van eats away my gas like an alcoholic sober for a year not by choice, and it being RIDICULOUSLY COLD, its getting to be an annoying hassle to go to the gym. We’ll see how it goes in the next 2 weeks. Im beginning to see more cuts in my stomach since the pic was taken, AND I REALLY DONT WANT TO LOSE THOSE CUTS!
