Dear Body Blog, (3)
It has only been a week or two since I have really gotten serious about working out and eatting right, but today I hoped on the scale only to see that I have gained two pounds. The numbers read back to me 159. That is the most that I have ever weighed. It is so discouraging to me. I am working so hard, and I know I shouldn’t expect so much so soon, but to see some results would be so much more motivating. It makes me feel like I am not working hard enough. Despite the fact that I am discouraged I am going to let this motivate me more. I am going to stay on track with my workouts and eatting right. I really want to transform my body and my life. Yes, this is a bump in the road for me, but I will be succssesful!

Keep the motivation up! dont get caught up in numbers put the scale up for a month ( i was checking it everyday and it was driving me nuts) as long as you feel better about yourself and are improving in the gym thats what matters. good luck you’ll do great.

Hey Alexandra, don’t get discouraged. You didn’t get to that weight overnight, & it won’t come off overnight either. I dropped 25 lbs in 2002, but it took 4-6 months. Don’t get too impatient (a common trait on this site). If you take it off with a healthy clean diet & exercise, instead of trying a crash "diet", you’ll more likely keep it off long-term. I’ve kept it off since then, with an eye towards the long haul instead of just a short-term weight loss. Keep charging……you can do it!

Keep your head up… it’s SO common to gain a little at first because of some muscle you are adding. That’s a good thing because the muscle will help you burn more fat in the long run. You can do this!!!! Great job!

When you workout, you build muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat. I know as a woman, after years of judging one’s self based opbn weight, I say only weigh yourself every 2-4 weeks. The real progress initially will be made in muscle tone and shape. Don’t get discouraged by the scale, get excited by the immediate changes, the muscles getting firmer, etc. That should help motivate you. Good luck and have fun with it..

Two pounds is not much and could be muscles, like the others have written. Keep with a good, clean diet and keep up your workouts, and the changes will come. Try to be patient.

Hi Alexandra. Dont get to bummed It will happen. Scales can be very inconsistant. Weight yourself once a wk. I do it fist thing Monday am. Same clothing too. Give it 3mo & u will see some good results. U will hold some weight, muscle weighs more than fat. Watch the way your clothes fit. Good luck to u Bob

Have no Fear! This has happened to me as well, and often. Progress ……. (Weight loss especially) has a goofy ebb and flow, it’s not a completely linear process. If you’re doing good things for your body ……….. your doing good things for your body. Progress is the only feasible outcome. Throw that scale up in a closet for a month.

Try not to get too discouraged about it. When I first started into this more that a year and a half ago, I didn’t start to see any results on the scale for over a month, and then physical changes even longer, but then one day..poof, I finally noticed. It took me about 5 weeks or so to see a noticable change on the scale. Be patien and don’t give up. When you start to see it, you will work even harder. Because then you know it is just around the corner. Good luck!
