Blog Entry

Saturday, August 8th, 2009

So, I have been coming and going on Bodyspace. I was in the I.R. and during that time I didn’t keep up on here. So, now that I’m back I’ve noticed weird things about Bodyspace.

Is it me or does it seem like this place has turned into a popularity contest. Whats up with the inspires? It was getting pretty stupid with that stuff. Whatever happened to all of us just pushing each other to do better?

Whats up with it turning into a meat market as well. I jump profile to profile reading blogs and I see the crap people write, "Hey baby, looking hot!" or " Damn, your good to go." Plus, you log onto the main page and some dude has his crotch in your face. Or an ass-crack up in front. WTF?

Give me my peeps who want to get fit, beat the **** out the iron and improve their lives. Leave all that other crap for some other site. This site kicks ass for the purpose fitness. Not the other junk. Don’t know, maybe I’m overracting, but Bodyspace does seem different no.

left inguinal strain advice

Monday, May 4th, 2009

About two weeks ago I ended up with an left inguinal strain. Pretty painful. I have no clue what I did or how I did it. Anyways, saw my doctor and he said I was one bad move away from an hernia. Nice. So, I stopped exercising and did all the medical treatments. It had been almost a week and an half since the injury had happened and I was pain free for about fours days, so I thought I would test it. I had been lifting 50 pound concrete bads and 45 pound water bottles with no pain. So, I did about 45 minutes of cardio and now the pain is back. I feel like an idiot because I should have either rested longer before exercising or done a really light cardio. Lesson learned.

So, I’m back to square one again. Out for at least two weeks. Does anyone have any suggestions for the right kind of training when you are coming back from this kind of injury. Or a groin injury? Maybe some threads or articles can be suggested. Since I’m two weeks out, I plan on using this time wisely to research all about it and the proper training I need to be doing when coming back from injury as such. Any advice would be great! Thanks and stay strong.

P90X: Oh the pain!

workingout.jpg

It hurts to dry my hair because my arms are dead. I don’t want to watch a comedy because laughing just kills my sore abs. Can someone put my socks on for me? Me legs are dead and I ain’t lifting them! My body is one lump of soreness thanks to the daily ass kicking it received……and I love it! I love being sore like this. It’s that good sore. That kind of sore that tells me the weakness is leaving the body. We grinded out the P90X this week. We lifted till the muscles screamed mercy! We pushed the cardio sessions until we almost puked. The sweat continued to pour out long after the sessions were done. We downed our shakes like we hadn’t ate in days. The weight on the scale is declining while our muscles and endurance are increasing. I love it! I live for this!

The diet has been killer. Been following the P90X Nutrition plan to a T. What I love about that plan is it seems like there is so much damn food to eat. The plate is piled high and I usually wonder if I can eat it all. Somehow I do and the best part about it is I NEVER feel miserable when I’m done. My stomach doesn’t balloon out. Plus, the meals tatse good. Bonus!

Two weeks out from adding additional weight sessions into the week. I would like to do chest and calf development twice a week. I will do the P90X programs, but I want to add my own additional workouts in too. Has anyone did this before? Any tips for creating the right workout programs without over training. The P90X chest routine is all push-ups and I want to add weights in. I miss my bench.

Alright, I’m outta here. For those who took time out of their lives to read about mine, thank you so much. Have a great weekend!

P90X: Phase 2 Week 1

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

Program: We are now starting Phase 2 of the P90X program. Phase 1 flew by. When we did the P90X program this time we also inserted some of the P90X Plus programs. These are great programs. They are a little shorter then the normal workout programs, but they have a much higher intensity. I think I’m going to add some additional weight lifting exercises in week three. I want more muscular development with my chest and my calves. I miss doing the bench press, incline press and some of the other chest exercises. My calves are skinny and I want to add more mass to them. If these additional workouts seem to work in week three then I will continue this program in the final Phase. In additional to all of this we are doing more cardio. We have a dog now and he is very energetic. So, we take turns going on runs with him. Tha makes running more enjoyable because you have company and the distraction makes time fly by.

Diet: The diet has been a little off and because of that we aren’t seeing the dramatic results like we did the first time we did this. We are eating more carbs (clean carbs) this time. Plus, I was cutting my calories short and that messed up my metabolism. I couldn’t figure out why I was starving every time it was time to eat and I had no energy. Finally, I got my head out of my ass and pulled out the nutrition book. Just goes to show that you don’t know everything, even though you think you do. Now that I’m following the book my energy levels are great and I’m never starving. No alcohol. We have cut out the booze completely. This has helped us lose weight faster. My wife has lost ten pounds and I have shredded six pounds. We like the P90X bars. I love the chocolate peanut butter ones. A little pricey, but not too bad. We did the the P90X recovery drink. It’s ok. A lot of sugar (34 grams)! Not a lot of protein though (10 grams). I think when we are done with this last batch I’m switching back to my G2/Protien shake mix. That was great and I’m never hungry after consuming it. I’m always hungry after the recovery drink and since we worked out at night that would lead to late night snacking. Bad for progress.

Sick: When we were just finishing up the first 90 days of the P90X we started getting sick. My son had started school and he was catching every damn bug out there. Then we would get it. We were sick for almost two months straight. Everything we had earned was now lost. That can put you in a bad funk. Once again, I’m sick. Ironically, I got sick during the “recovery week.” I feel better today after three days of having ups and downs. I’m so ready to workout again. Does anyone have suggestions on how to speed up the process of getting over a cold or flu? I know I can’t avoid the bugs in all, but I would like to get over them faster. Seriously, how much snot can one body produce? I just want to breath damn it!

Motivation: When my dad died from cancer I got a crash course on life and death. I realize that the only guarantee in life is death. I never take tomorrow for granted because it might never come. Since I live like this, it’s hard for me to have “long term” goals. The farthest I have looked is mid-May (and that’s really pushing it). That’s when my wife has a convention in Southern California. We stay at the beach whenever we go there. Last year, we stayed at Camp Pendleton.  All around us were these yoked marines.  I wanted to be that ripped. So, that’s my goal this year. To be ripped for that beach trip. My approach to this is to take it day by day. Give it all today and if tomorrow comes, give it all then as well. I think if I keep focused with this motivation I shouldn’t be shy to take off my shirt come mid-May. I also joined a bodyspace group and I plan on using that as extra motivation as well.

All right, I’m outta here. For those who took time out of their lives to read about mine, THANK YOU SO MUCH. Stay strong!

Sore Knees

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

I have been working out six days a week for the past two weeks and I have noticed that me knees are sore. They have gotten worse the last four days. It doesn’t help that my job is physically demanding and it requires me to do alot of heavy lifting. I had to stop doing plyometrics 3/4 of the way through it because they were hurting. I didn’t even do my exercises last night because my knees were throbbing.

Any suggestions as to help keep the pain down or make the soreness go away? Thanks for your time.

P90X: Stuck In A Hole

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

Just as my wife and I were finishing up of first 90 days of the P90X we became sick. We ended being sick for two months with various types of colds, flus and stomach viruses. There was one week when we weren’t sick and our son had pneumonia, so there went our opportunity to start over again.

Talk about frustrating, everything we worked our butts off for pretty much went down the tube. We are stuck in this deep hole and it’s been pretty tough to get out of. We have begun working out again, but it’s not the same. We don’t stick to the program to a "T", but we are doing some of the workouts. I want to do it over agin and stick with their plan, but it seems like we are stuck in this deep hole. It’s like we are missing the extra push that we had the first time we did it. Does anyone have any suggestions for when you fall far off that horse and you want to get back on it, but seem to be struggling to?

Our diet plan isn’t perfect either like it used to be. When we got sick we ate like crap. Neither one of us wanted to cook, so we ate a lot of easy/shitty food. When I am sick I also love to drink soda. It feels good on my throat and boy let me tell ya, I drank ALOT of that crap. Eating crappy food only makes your body want to shut down faster.I have slowly worked my way back into their diet program, but I slip up here and there. I have fallen back on one of old habits: late night snacking. That seem to be a tough habit to break. The part that gets me is I will eat late at night and once I am done I wil mentally beat myself up for it. How do you break that habit?

Not working out can make you become depressed. I don’t like the out-of-shape me. That guy sucks! But I have noticed that it just seems harder to get back into it. Is it a mental thing? Is it part of depression? I know I can do it, but whenever I see my in-shape pics it just seems like a long journey to get back there. I think I am setting my goals too high (I want to get back to that in-shape me like yesterday) and that leads to frustration. That frustration leads to depression and then I just feel like giving up. Talk about shitty. It’s hard to shake the crappy thoughts and attitude. Why? I don’t know? can anyone explain this to me? How do you get of this f’n rut?

For those who took the time out of their lives to read about mine, THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I have been getting spam comments recently. That stuff is pretty gross too- kiddie porn links and crap like that. I reported it to bodyspace admin and to the Governing Body who monitors child porn stuff. Has anyone else had problems with this? Really pissing me off. F’n losers!

P90X: Close to finishing Phase II

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

Alright, we are almost done with the second phase of the P90X program. This phase wasn’t as great compared to the first four weeks. We had company for two weeks, some birthdays, my son started schoole and on top of that, we were sick and we missed out on three days of working out. No big deal. We tried to work out the first night we were sick and that only made it worse. We needed to listen to our bodies and give them rest. So, when we did get back to execising we did our Core Synergistics.

Core: This program is great. After we got done I felt like I had gotten my ass kicked. Missing out for three days and then starting off with this was a real wake-up call for our bodies. The only exercise i don’t like in this is the Dreya Roll. The first time I did I rolled too hard and I had shifted all my weight onto my neck. That was af reaky moment and since then I have been a wussie about it. I love the Prison Cell Push-Up. It reminds me of two-a-days. I was just reading a book by beachbody and it stated that you can burn any where from 300 to 800 calories per hour with Beachbody programs. Having done this for some time now I believe it.

Hip Hop Abs: My mother was out here for two weeks and she uses the Hip Hop Abs by Beachbody. Nicole did it with my mother several times and then I did it with them one night. We swapped it for one of our cardio nights. It’s a pretty cool workout. I can’t dance and I have no rythem, so I was laughing a lot at myself during it. I guess lucky for my wife I’m a good kisser ; ). I had a lot of fun doing it and I pushed myself hard enough to get a sweat going. I really could feel it working my abs.

Diet:Due to my birthday and my son’s birthday we had some bad food. Cake, I had a some soda and we ate out a couple of times. It didn’t effect our weight, but we did feel like crap after we ate that stuff. Otherwise, we have stuck mostly to the Phase I eating plan. We throw some Phase II meals in here and there, but not a lot. We just don’t react well to carbs. While my mother was out here we made her eat our meals and she loved them. She has I.B.S. and she has to be careful of what she eats. Our meals fit into her diet requirements and she lost 12 pounds while she was here. 12 pounds in two weeks, thats great! Now she is hooked. Way to go mom!

Supplements: Here is what I take daily: 1 men’s health Vitamin, 1,000mg Vitamin C and 1 B-Complex Vitamin. I don’t take any fat-burner pills. I don’t have anything against them. I just don’t believe in them. I understand if you need to use them for a competition, but if your goal is just to lose weight I don’t see it. I guess it’s just not natural to me? You can’t take them forever and so I was wondering (maybe more worried) how your body reacts to them after you stop using them. Since it’s not a natural way for your body to lose weight how does your body maintain the weight off if it doesn’t have that in it anymore to use?

Photos: While my mother was out here she took pictures of us working out and flexing. Man, that was fun. I posted them on my profile page and THANK YOU to everyone who has left us compliments! She took our before picture and our newest picture and placed them side-by-side. We both have a set of copies in the bathroom. Nicole has hers hanging from her mirror and I have mine on my mirror. Seeing ourselves before we started is a real nice wake-up call. We looked so damn gross! I have to say this: take a pictures of yourself. It’s a great way to see your progress and give you motivation. Do it!

Confidence:Yup, it’s here. Confidence. Both Nicole and I have this new confidence. Nicole has a profile page on Beachbody and she is in the process of writing about herself and her journey. She said she is going to talking about her demons from her past: how her parents called fat and used fat names ever since se was a little child. Thats a huge confidence step for her because this is something she NEVER talked about. Plus, the other day we were talking to some parents about babies and someone mentioned to Nicole that if you were to hold a baby all day you would get some nice biceps. Nicole’s response:"I already do." HELL YEAH! She never talks about herself, let alone in a positive way. Working out together has been such a great experience.

Progress: After I ate my breakfast I stepped on the scale and I saw something I hadn’t seen since 1994 (yeah, bring back the grunge!). I weigh 148 pounds. I haven’t dipped below 150 in over 14 years! WOOOOO-HOOO! Plus, I went to TJ Maxs today and I had to get new work shorts. I went down three sizes. When I saw that I thought, "This is what Brother Knuckles must have felt like when he got his new shorts." It was awesome! This was the only thing I hadn’t factor into our budget. Haveing to get new clothes because our old stuff doesn’t fit anymore. Thats ok, because buying new clothes feels like a trophy or a prize we won.

Since I love and believe in the P90X so much I became a Team Beachbody coach. This program is doing wonders for Nicole and I, so I want others to feel that same great experience we are expriencing. My profile page is www.teambeachbody.com/jt180. I just finished it, but it’s under review by their admins (they are more stricter there then they are here). I also bought the P90X Plus program and I can’t wait to try that out

Alright, I’m outta here! Gonna go jump on the trampoline with my kids! For those who time out of their lives to read about mine: THANK YOU SO MUCH!

P90X: Phase II Week 1

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

Week one of the Phase II part came and it kicked our butts. It feels great to be worked over again. The new exercise programs are good and it took some time to adjust to the new workouts. The first time around we are always like deer in headlights, so we don’t get in as hard of a workout like we want to, but no biggie.

Chest, Shoulders & Triceps: This was a challenge because of how difficult the type of push-ups you had to do. At one point you had to do one handed push-ups. I can’t do them yet. Yeah, nothing like trying only to watch your face get introduced to the floor real fast. My shoulders were dead for two days after the workout. I need to jump up in weights wehn it comes to my triceps workout. I’m going heavy enough and that sucks. I feel like my arms are lagging cause I’m not pshing my triceps hard enough.

AbRipperX:My core is getting so much stronger.I can go through every exercise now without stopping or coming up short on reps.My balance is strong as well. I don’t fall over during the leap frog crunches. The only day I struggle with the AbRipper is after we do the back and leg program. My legs are tired and that makes it tough to do half of the ab exercises. Thats fine with me cause I use that to push myself even harder in hopes that it makes my core stronger for the next time I do the AbRipper.

Back/Biceps: I love this workout. You do back to back arm exercises in this workout and man, what a great burn and pump.It works my arms and they arm dead after this workout. I tried too hard to go with heavy weights and that backfired by the time I got to the last set of arm exercises. The back exercises are good as well. I felt it in my back the next morning.

Polymetrics: Oh polymetrics how I missed you. I love this workout. This time around my wife challenged each other to highest rep counts. Do to a recount no real winner was declared. Ha- she beat me, damn those leg kicks over the chair!

Legs/Back:This is the same program from Phase I.I never or rarely used the pull-up bar for this. I like to change it up and use the resistance bands on my back. My legs are so freak’n sore from this. It din’t feel like I pushed myself that hard, but today my legs tell me differently.

Phas II Diet:This phase allows you to have more carbs, but I haven’t made that big of a jump into eating more carbs. I have increased my amount a little, but not much. I just seem to be sensative to carbs. I’ve noticed that since I have added more carbs my body goes through this craving for food. Like bad food. I find it odd since I don’t eat bad food. I didn’t have this craving in the first phase. I like to have my carbs at the start of the day and no carbs (or very little) after lunch. I haven’t bonked during the workouts (which we do at night), so I think it’s working out just fine. I love the meatloaf meal in here. It is yummy.

I have become a true believer that the true success in losing weight and becoming healthy starts and ends with your diet. You can workout all you want, take all the fat burning pills you want, but if your diet is crappy your body will be crappy. I see the results every day and I know it’s because of the diet. Yes, working out is important as are the supplements, but I think the diet is twice as important as the others. Your body needs that healthy food in order to be healthy. Sure you don’t have to be perfect, but you can’t "cheat" (I hate that word. I rather use treat) everyday or every other day. It just doesn’t work that way. Just don’t all stupid like I did and stres yourself out about what you eat. That just drains on you and you start to lose focus as to why you are doing it. It becomes lees fun. Try the diet. It’s only for 90 days. Is three months really that much compared to a whole year or your whole life? Well, gotta go. For those who took time out of their lives to read about mine- THANK YOU SO MUCH!
