left inguinal strain advice

About two weeks ago I ended up with an left inguinal strain. Pretty painful. I have no clue what I did or how I did it. Anyways, saw my doctor and he said I was one bad move away from an hernia. Nice. So, I stopped exercising and did all the medical treatments. It had been almost a week and an half since the injury had happened and I was pain free for about fours days, so I thought I would test it. I had been lifting 50 pound concrete bads and 45 pound water bottles with no pain. So, I did about 45 minutes of cardio and now the pain is back. I feel like an idiot because I should have either rested longer before exercising or done a really light cardio. Lesson learned.

So, I’m back to square one again. Out for at least two weeks. Does anyone have any suggestions for the right kind of training when you are coming back from this kind of injury. Or a groin injury? Maybe some threads or articles can be suggested. Since I’m two weeks out, I plan on using this time wisely to research all about it and the proper training I need to be doing when coming back from injury as such. Any advice would be great! Thanks and stay strong.
