A Training Failure

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

I recently tried to step up my training by pushing myself to do 2 a days while at the same time restricting my calories and upping my cardio to 2 30 minute sessions on the treadmill and riding my bicycle to and from work (about 2.5 miles one way) for 4 consecutive days a week.  I only lasted about 3 weeks before I started suffering from overtraining. I found out that I wasnt getting enough sleep or calories to support that kind of working out and to my dismay I actually gained 2.5 pounds, I couldnt sleep at night, I was having flu-like symptoms, and I had a really hard time trying to eat. When I looked in the mirror I didnt see the changes I thought would happen. I recently went back to only training in the morning, started some new fat burning supplements and I go to bed a lot earlier and now my energy is through the roof. I lost 3 pounds in 1 week and my motivation is a lot higher. I always thought the harder you pushed yourself, the better your results will be. I’m learning that is not always true. I also learned that I CAN do 2 a days if I have to I just dont want to mix 2 a days with work and other family responsibilities. It proved to be a little too intense for me to handle, I am ashamed to admit it but I burned out.

Can Anyone tell me how to post side by side Progress pics?

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

I posted some progress pics today but I noticed that when people post their before and after pics side by side you can really tell how much progress youre making. Any help anyone can give is greatly appreciated.

I blew week 3 of my 12 week program, gotta get back on track.

Monday, October 27th, 2008

I was told its good to write down your goals, so here I go!! I was called in to work 3 days last week on midnite shift. My workouts went completely out the window. I didnt sleep right, I didnt eat right, I was really bummed out about it. I have to post progress pictures and I’m afraid to see the results. Today was the start of week 4 and I didnt work out today because I stayed up till 2:00am trying to explain to my wife why it is important to me that I train, eat right, go to sleep, and arrange my day so that I can make those things possible. Not to mention the obvious benefits of being healthier and having a big self esteem boost from 1.Completing my daily workouts 2.Seeing my body change as a result. The progress pics I will post this week are supposed to be my motivation when I see the results of my efforts over the last 3 weeks. I hope the bad week I had didnt set me back too far. I am determined to get back on track. Its now week 4. I’m not satisfied with my fat loss just by looking in the mirror. My clothes fit a little different but my shape still looks the same. I think I will take my cardio up to twice a day now. I will also begin my creatine supplementation. I will definately try harder to eat a clean diet, and step up my cardio to twice a day. Blogs like Chicken-Tuna’s (CT) Crap-Pusher’s letter and Luck have really motivated me to say NO!!! to all the crap that comes through my household that is consumed by the wife, kids, family and friends. Its comforting to know that other people realise that saying no is hard but if I want the benefit of a healthy body and a lean-muscular awesome physique at the end of the 12 weeks I’ll do it and not feel regret about sacrificing delicious tasting food. I will now begin to prepare all my meals ahead of time. It will save time and help streamline my days so I can spend some time doing other family related things to make everyone happy if possible. Time Management is going to be a key element to my success this 12 weeks. I’ll get the gym clothes out the night before, and have my meals zip-locked, in tupperware and ready to go before I go to bed.  I have to find ways to make this work. Any suggestions?

Do you ever feel like you are all alone in your quest to be fit?

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

I have a post called "How have some of you dealt with people who hate on you" and I got some really good responses. So far I’ve discovered that when you really want to make a change in your life that causes you to make some changes to your normal routine other people in your life may not like it.    For example: Now instead of staying up late every night I look forward to going to bed so I can rise early and get to the gym. Because I’ve made this change I draw sneers and jeers and comments like;  "Whats wrong with you?" "why wont you stay up and socialize, have a few beers?" "Oh are you getting anti-social now?" "I dont know why youre doing this you will just end up quitting and gain all your weight back"  When I turn down opportunities to hang out because I want to train, some people are actually offended by that!! Even my wife, who tells me she wishes I would put the same kind of effort into some things that she would like me to do.  That makes me feel like crap! I feel like noone understands what I’m trying to accomplish, and the sacrifices I have to make to achieve my goals. Has anyone else endured and overcome similar situations.

I Get really sore after a really good workout (espescially legs)

Which Cardio is best for fat burning? Low intensity or High intensity

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

Or is it a mixture of both? Can anyone give me any instruction? I want to do whatever will give me the best results. I’m currently just walking 35-45 min every day on empty stomach. Followed by weight training

I seem to get sick 4-5 weeks into a workout program, every time.

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

Does anyone know why this happens? I usually dont get back into the workouts after a really bad sickness. After I’ve gained all my weight back, and once again become thoroughly disgusted with myself I get off my butt and try to get back into the gym, which is where I am today.
