A Training Failure

I recently tried to step up my training by pushing myself to do 2 a days while at the same time restricting my calories and upping my cardio to 2 30 minute sessions on the treadmill and riding my bicycle to and from work (about 2.5 miles one way) for 4 consecutive days a week.  I only lasted about 3 weeks before I started suffering from overtraining. I found out that I wasnt getting enough sleep or calories to support that kind of working out and to my dismay I actually gained 2.5 pounds, I couldnt sleep at night, I was having flu-like symptoms, and I had a really hard time trying to eat. When I looked in the mirror I didnt see the changes I thought would happen. I recently went back to only training in the morning, started some new fat burning supplements and I go to bed a lot earlier and now my energy is through the roof. I lost 3 pounds in 1 week and my motivation is a lot higher. I always thought the harder you pushed yourself, the better your results will be. I’m learning that is not always true. I also learned that I CAN do 2 a days if I have to I just dont want to mix 2 a days with work and other family responsibilities. It proved to be a little too intense for me to handle, I am ashamed to admit it but I burned out.

yea, if you are going to do 2 a days, you need to make sure you a consuming enough calories in order to do that, cause as you mentioned, your immune system will get low, due to overtraining and thus for you received a cold and as far as you mentioning you gained some weight, that probably was because of your metabolism, if you metabolism isn’t that good, you won’t lose weight just off of working out.. You got to feed the body throughout the day in portions.. Portions are the key and you will always lose weight because it ramps up the metabolism.

I do two a days on Saturday and Sundays. My morning workout is from 7:00-9:00am. After my morning workout, I do errands, have brunch and take an hour nap. Then I do my "honey-do’s" and head to the gym from 3:00-4:30pm. It is essential to get plenty of extra rest to keep up this schedule. I get to bed between 8:30-9:00pm and get 8 to 9 hours of sleep.

You taught me something. Good sleep is something I rarely get. I may have to get some advice from someone on a good meal plan. As long as you know what works for you, keep it up! Keep us posted, bro.
