Where to?
January 16, 2008So here I sit…deep in thought. Well perhaps a deep state of confusion is a better way to put it lol. I feel so lost in all the thoughts I have that I don’t even know where to start…sigh. I’ll start with a better detailed description of my goals since I know I’ll need help achieving them
.
I want to gain muscle mass, definition and strength but I’m just not sure where to start.
At one point in time I was in very good condition, good definition and strong. Since then I’ve had three kids and all my time has been spent on them. Now I’m ready to start on me once again.
I’m rather small with a small frame so weight loss isn’t needed. I’m 5′5" and 105 lbs. My usual weight in the past is 98 lbs but that was when I was in better shape. In all honesty though I wonder if that isn’t too small. It seems to be genetics in my family since my mom is small as well as my aunt (who is 98 lbs even after 5 kids lol). No I don’t have an eating disorder lol, I’m just small by nature.
The last time I was serious about getting fit I just hit the ground running and it happened. I gained mass, strength and definition by simply lifting weight both at work and the gym.
I took nutritional supplements such as Albomen(sp?) Gold but for some reason my stomach wouldn’t tolerate it well. However in three months I gained 6 lbs. It was rough though…I had to force myself to eat even when I wasn’t hungry. There was a trainer at the gym that told me I just had to eat more to gain. Part of me thinks it was a mistake to force myself to eat when my body was telling me it wasn’t hungry. It gives me the impression that I was encouraging myself to have unhealthy eating habits. Thoughts anyone? Maybe it is more important what I was eating vs. how much? It sure wasn’t healthy food thats for sure!
In order for me to get a higher calorie intake I was mixing Albomen Gold with Coffemate…ended up with 1800 extra calories a day off that. Oh, and every day I was at the gym I’d go get the biggest cheeseburger I could find, just for the calories. I was eating JUNK food and was expecting my body to work with that JUNK pfft…now I know that was a mistake but I’m not sure of a better option for calories that my stomach could handle.
I eat healthy now, very little fat. If there is one thing I eat that should change it’s what I eat for breakfast…don’t laugh lol…Frosted Flakes or Frosted Miniwheats are the norm. I know that’s gotta go! lol. I think I’ll go back to oatmeal and Cream of Wheat
.
So, here I sit. Trying to make a plan and so unsure of where to start…well besides cutting out the junk breakfast hehe.
One thing I feel lost on is that I’ve been told that it’s impossible to gain mass and tone up (which I assume means the same as gaining definition and being cut). From my own naive experience I did both at the same time. With the larger muscles came a more defined/cut appearence. So what I was told about it being "impossible" only confuses me. Please give me your thoughts on this.
Also, with the increased mass came more strength. However the same person that told me I couldn’t tone and gain mass also told me I couldn’t gain strength unless I did strength training…ehhh..ummm well doesn’t strength also come from increased mass???
Thank you for reading! Advice is most welcome:)
