Almost There

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

So I’ve managed to regain the weight I dropped last week.  As of last night, I’m back at 152 lbs.  I’m aiming to bulk until I get to 155 lbs., so not too far off.  Almost time to start my cutting phase.  I started off around 141 and have managed to gain about .5 to 1 lb. per week which is pretty good (hopefully it’s mostly muscle gains instead of fat).  Overall, I think I have had a pretty clean bulk.  I’m looking forward to getting more cut and getting rid of the smoothed over look from the excess fat.  I anticipate about another week or two until I reach my bulk goal weight.  Then… it’ll be time to cut… high rep workouts along with HIIT cardio sessions.  Cardio is not something I’ll be looking forward to… can’t stand them.  But unfortunately we gotta do what we gotta do…

Bicep Workouts

Friday, April 25th, 2008

So yesterday I changed my routine.  I lightened the weights and increased my number of repetitions and sets.  And for the first time in a LONG time my biceps became sore.  Usually on bicep days, I go really heavy for 3-4 sets and keep my rep ranges around 6-10.  And I always trained to failure.  But yesterday I decided to change around my usual bicep routine and instead lighten the load for more repetitions.  Now I’m doing 21’s and aim for 4-5 sets.  It feels really good to feel the changes whenever switching around your routines.  I’ll definately be sticking to the Classic 21 routine for a few weeks before switching back to heavier loads.

Setback

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

For the past two weekends, I’ve been super busy.  One of my long time friends just passed away last week :( .  I’ve known him for around 12 years give or take.  I just still can’t believe he’s gone at such a young age.  He was 32.  The sad part of it is that nobody really knows the cause of his death yet.  We’re all waiting for the autopsy results to come in.  From what I heard he just all of a sudden collapsed while getting off from work.  The hospital tried to resuscitate him but was too late.  R.I.P. Robert… you will be forever remembered old friend.

I was extremely tired this past weekend due to not sleeping much.  I had to drive over 8 hrs. to get to the funeral immediately after I got off from work.  Once I got there, I probably slept about an hour, or max two.  I got back on Sunday and realized that my eating & sleeping schedule was completely shot during the weekend.  As a result, I lost close to 3 lbs.  I couldn’t believe the quick drop in weight.  I wish I could gain as easily.  I know not to rely too heavily on the scale.  And I prefer to judge myself in the mirror more.  I can tell my imperfections and spots that need improvements from looking in the mirror…. something the scale can’t do.  However, I still can’t believe I dropped in weight like that.  Oh well, it’s the start of a new week.  I’m back in the regular eating/resting routine and am sure I’ll be back soon.

Shoulder Workout / Gym Etiquette

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

I had a really good shoulder workout last night.  I started my routine with a couple of warmup sets.  And then I began my routine first with a front delt workout.  Then I did a couple of workouts on my middle delts and ended with rear delts.  By the end of my last set/reps, my shoulders were in real pain.

Throughout most of my workout, I was a little bit annoyed.  There was a guy that wasn’t serious about working out that brought his 4-yr. old kid with him into the gym.  Now I’m not normally a hater.  But this kid kept running around the gym and playing.  And the man didn’t really do much in the gym other than 2-3 reps and was in/out of the gym in maybe 10 mins.  Now granted they didn’t stay long, but it bothers me to see others that pretend to be serious about working out.  And they’ll usually come into the gym with intentions other than really focusing and working out.  Take for instance this other time, there was a couple that showed up in the gym.  The girlfriend was dressed to workout, while the boyfriend is in there with a full suit & tie.  Normally I could care less, but as they moved around the gym it became obvious that they were NOT there to lift weights or to workout.  They were just there to socialize, talk loud, laugh, and play.  Is this just me?  Or can anyone relate?
