Issues with my arm…

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

My left forearm is hurting when I do curls.  It is sore, not workout sore, from just in front of my elbow down towards the inside right side of my wrist.  Any suggestions to what it may be or how to treat it?

Sometimes you LOSE!

Monday, June 8th, 2009

Well, I let the circumstances get to me and I have lost two and a half months of training.  I feel like a bum.  Every week telling myself I am going to get back at it on Monday and every week watching Monday come and go and never touching a weight.  Well I am back and rededicating myself to working out.  My new goal is to work out three times this week!  Yeah I know…how ambitious, but this is a war and you have to start somewhere and I am making a stand here.  The ball is rolling downhill and fast and I must bring it to a stop before I can beging to roll it back up the hill!

I AM DOWN WITH THE SICKNESS

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

I hate being sick.  Somehow I have caught something.  High fever, blocked sinuses, coughing phlegm blaaaaachk!  I hate it.  I have missed two, soon to be three, workouts.  I am planning to hit the weights again on Thursday.  I feel so tired and weak, this is not good.  All of my family, five of us, have it to one degree or another.   Oh well, life strikes.

Week 5 off to a Roaring Start!

Monday, February 16th, 2009

I am doing Muscle and Fitness Beginners workout and I am now on week 5.  I have completed 16 total workouts, and the changes are amazing.  I love workingout.  It is a blast to go into my basement and pump iron (or vinyl in my case).  I wish I had stayed with it 20 years ago when I first started, but better late than never.

I am seeing great changes in my upper body.  My abs are coming along slower it seems, but I still have a ton of fat to lose.  My legs are starting to look good again.  My arms are really shaping up.  I am trying to dial in a good nutrition strategy, but so far that has been my biggest challenge.  I am making small improvements in my diet, and I don’t eat nearly as much sugar as I once did.

It is a strange thing, but the harder I work the more I feel like working, and the worse I feel before working out the harder I push.  I look forward to every workout no matter how tired I am, because I know how it will make me feel afterward. I also enjoy entering my workout in the Workout Tracker, it gives me a sense of accomplishment!

NEW GOAL!

Friday, February 13th, 2009

I changed my weight loss goal.  I realize that I was being unrealistic with my old goal.  I have dropped about 10 good pounds in 4 weeks or so and I am looking to do the same over the next four weeks.

I haven’t seen great weight loss, but I am not disappointed.  I have really noticed changes in my body, and my wife has noticed also.  I am excited about working out all the time and I am really trying to watch what I eat.  I do have problems getting enough protein because according to what I have read I need 1 gram per pound of body weight.  That is a ton of protein.  But I am making sure I get as much as possible.

Happy Workouts!!

Shedding Weight

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

Well here we are, another workout is in the books, and my body is starting to take on a shape other than round!  I do not think I am going to make my weight goal that I have posted on my bodyspace. I am not concerned about it, because I can see changes in my body.  My clothes fit better, I have more energy, my stamina is better, and I am much more optimistic.

I have been using the workout tracker to help me in my quest for sculpting my body.  Presently I have logged 10 workouts, and I cannot wait to log another one tonight.  My only issue so far is nagging gout problems.  A couple of years ago, after completing a substantial fast to lose weight, I was diagnosed with gout, which is caused by purine rich foods.  To my knowledge I have not eaten anything I should not have, but twice in three weeks my gout has flared up.  Man it is painful.  I know that protein contains high amounts of purine, but you need protein to build muscle, so for the time being I am willing to make the sacrifice and deal with the pain and gulp down my protein shakes!

Back to the weight issue, I have not lost as much weight as I thougt I would, but I now have pecks, and a nice little line making its way down my stomach which will eventually separate my six pack.  I have decided not to worry about weight too much and just concentrate on eating correctly and working out, and I figure my weight will take care of itself.

Working out with only 100lbs

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

I am not wealthy, and I have three kids and a lovely wife, so I am usually broke.  I don’t make much money, but I do have a bench and 100lbs of weight.  I am planning on adding to what I have, but for now, it seems to be working great.  I am getting great workouts and seeing progress.  I would love to bence 250lbs but hey, I will settle for only being able to do 100lbs right now.  One of these days I want to join a gym and not have to worry about it, but it is really nice to go into the basement and hit the iron, er uh I mean vinyl covered concrete!

Tough Workout Today

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

Today was my toughest workout yet.  I have started phase 2 of the Muscle and Fitness Beginners worout that was in the Feb 2009 magazine.  Week 1 was good, but week 2 is going to be even better.  I did the upper body workout today and it was awesome.  I was surprised at how tough it was to do some of the exercises.  I was also thrilled to fight through them and get the job done.  I have lower body tomorrow and I can’t wait to hit the weights.

I only have 100lbs to workout with, but it seems to be getting the job done for now.  I know I can do more on some exercises, but I will have to wait until I buy more weights to do it.  I am planning on purchasing another 100lbs of weight soon, but money is tight.  I would love to belong to a gym, but again the money just isn’t there.  I can do this, I am going to do this.  I am excited about getting my first 10 workouts done!

One down 51 to go!

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

Well I have one week down and 51 to go.  I want to make a whole year of working out every week.  I have failed in the past numerous times, but this time I have a plan.  I am, for the first time, following a workout plan.  I have planned my work, and now I am working my plan.

I have my first week in the books and I feel great.  Really this is my second week, but my first full week on the plan.  Let me explain.  I started on January 20th but I had a gout flare up.  I was not able to workout on the 22nd as planned.  I did however fight through the pain and worked on the 23rd.  That gave me 2 workouts for the week.  I am on a four week program so it is important that I do it right.  I started over this week on Monday Jan. 26th.  I worked out on the 28th and 30th.  I now have five workouts for the year!

I have already noticed some changes in my body, even though my weight is not much better.  My shirts fit better and I have more stamina.  I feel great.  I am looking forward to next week!
