Still sticking to my strategy but it’s very challenging at times, as mentioned before going to go to the gym and not being able to lift is frustrating. UGH!! However, I must pay attention to my body, if I don’t – I will pay the price later.
Manny and I are planning to go to the Eastern’s in November in NYC. We love going to shows especially National Level Shows. The venue is so very different than those very small, hometown shows, with only 3 people in your class and everyone gets a trophy LOL.
National Shows are quite the experience indeed; you meet so many people, from the forums that I participate, from body space and even sometimes, celebrities.
When Manny and I went to Team Universe on Sept 6th , Mike O’Hearn was there with his girlfriend What a sweet-tempered person she is – we chatted a bit – about food of course, it was lunchtime. She looked amazing and won the overall in her class and then her pro card
Competitions at these shows are very extreme – there were about 150 + women in figure alone!! I had the opportunity to speak with one of the women that competed, and she said that backstage –it wasn’t as friendly, implying a lot of cattiness etc etc.
I haven’t experienced that at the shows that I have done in the past and in all honesty that doesn’t bother me in the least. My objective, at any show that I had the honor of participating in, is to place well, be dialed in and of course meet new people, competing is a learning experience. If individuals want to be “unpleasant” – that is there perogative – I remain positive, ALWAYS –despite that negativity that surrounds me.
Its also good to remember that the “walls” have ears- whatever bad things that you may say , “hissy fits that you have, does get around and you may regret it- and unfortunately it gets back to the people that “ matter”, word travels fast, trust me on this.
Even the blogs that individuals write, especially the negative, complaining ones, for example; about how certain organizations run there shows and complaining about how you placed etc etc - gets around on the boards – you would be extremely surprised, and would not want to be remembered as a whiny complainer, and not having team spirit – that’s negative attention. Then again some, not all, crave attention period, no matter if it’s positive or negative, this I don’t comprehend.
It’s important to note, that the body building and figure world although large, it is a “very small world” if you frequent shows as I do- you will see someone that you know.
Here is an example– when I was at a show – I did meet someone , and they said that they found my articles and blogs very interesting and that they frequently go to my body space for motivation. In the next breath, mentioned how rude and obnoxious “so and so” was in there blogs, calling them an “attention whore.” Surprisingly this opinion came from a “male” Strong words yes, but definitely true as I have had first hand experience reading them. Its sad, to think that you will be remembered as an attention whore”, pathetic in fact.
So be careful what you write, people are reading: judges, supplement companies, the person your complaining about or maybe the individual you are competing with at your next show.
