August 23rd

August 23, 2009

Did a few sets of lat pulldowns and did a boxing session. It was a small class so I recieved a lot of personal attention and got a lot of focus mitt work. Felt nice and tired after the session.

August 22nd

August 22, 2009

Did a boxing class today despite still being sore as hell from the workout the day before. I performed very well despite the intense fatigue. The wonder of adrenaline. After that I took my dog on a two mile walk. I have been looking at Zach Evan-Esh’s website and I have really like his stuff. Looks like a combo of what a db or track and field athlete would do with some extra metabolic conditioning to ensure extreme well rounded fitness.

Jumped rope for 5 minutes to warm up. Then benchd 225 for 10 reps and moved on to 5 sets of db bench press x 5 supersetted with 5 pylo pushups with 80 pounds. Then did a 5 rounds of a circuit consisting of 5 225 deadlifts, 10 woodchoppers, and 5 sandbag slams each shoulder. This circuit destroyed me! Did 60 hanging leg raises and rolled for 20 minutes.

Did a bjj class today. Worked on half guard passes which helped me a lot and the we did positional rolling starting from half guard and ending with a sub. So I was able to get a lot of rolling time and worked up a good sweat despite not doing the kickboxing class beforehand like I typically do. Before class I did 3 rounds of the leg matrix which 20 squats, 20 lunges, 20 pylo lunges, and 20 jump squats. Sounds simple but it is great conditioning.

August 16th and 17th

August 17, 2009

Did a kickboxing class yesterday and it went well. Conditioning felt good. Did a bjj class today and worked north south escapes. Then we all took turn escaping and holding the position live. Was able to do well but I still feel north south is a weak position of mine despite the success I had in class. Took my dog for a two mile walk after class.

August 14th and 15th

August 15, 2009

Did a lot of hiking at my job yesterday about 2 hours total. Did a kickboxing class in the afternoon and we did 5 minute rounds instead of the typical 3 but I still felt pretty good. Had boxing today and I just got done walking my dog for two miles. Tommorrow a cross country runner who claims that boxing is easy conditioning wise is going to take a class. I can’t wait.

Did mma sparring. Felt pretty good, we went over a seio-nage which I did well with before moving off to sparring. Strikes felt alright but I need to work on blocking. Takedowns were good as always. I got a groin kick in the last round but I felt good. Did a two mile walk with my dog when I got  home.

Did a boxing class. Felt exhausted after playing capture the flag and touch rugby at my job but I felt pretty good halfway through class like I caught a second wind. After that in bjj we worked on holding sidemount and kesa gatame before moving on to positional sparring from those positions. Overall I was able to escape everyone else’s pretty easily while no one but the instructor was able to escape mine.
