Are You a Creature of Habit?
Tuesday, October 20th, 2009Most of us can answer yes to that question. We live our lives "doing what we’ve always done and in turn we get what we’ve always gotten." I love that phrase. You can apply that quote to so many different aspects in life. From financial habits, fitness habits, social habits, etc. How many times in a day do you have thoughts about your lack of fitness goals? Or how many times do you repeat in your mind, "I Have" to work out today?"
Did you know that these thoughts alone can keep you from obtaining your goals? We are in our own heads dozens of times a day, how we speak to ourselves, what we think when we look in a mirror, what we mutter when we try on a pair of tight fitting jeans. What if we turned those thoughts into positive, more motivating thoughts such as, I GET to go to the gym today! Come on now, you’re healthy, you can walk, you are perfectly able to get to the gym or grab a pair of dumbbells and workout while at home. What about those individuals that have already lost their health or their ability to walk into a gym? What would they say to you using that excuse?
Instead of dreading that pair of jeans in your closet that you used to be able to button up, how about doing something about it. Instead of just going out and buying a new pair in a bigger size or walking around with the dreaded "muffin top", make it a goal to dedicate 30 mminutes a day for the next month to get back into those jeans or even a size smaller. Challenge yourself! Be Determined! Don’t take NO for an answer!
Instead of pointing out the flaws you may have everytime you step in front of a mirror, how about pointing out the good traits you possess? What about your ability to workout or make healthy food choices. Your ability to change old habits and adopt good ones. What is one positive encouraging thing can you say to yourself?
Your are the best motivator out there! You are in your head 24/7! Tell yourself you Get to workout today! You GET to refuel your body with healthy food choices! Or how lucky you are that you are able to put in that cardio session. If you change your mind, you will change your body. Don’t strive for perfection, strive for balance. A life balance between taking care of yourself and your family!
