Wetter and Colder Than your Typical Summer

June 15, 2009

Some strange things are brewing in the sky’s above, it’s never this rainy or cold in early summer, it’s a high desert I live in for pete’s sake. What the eff is going on? Last weekend another attempt at enjoying the great outdoors was undertaken and ended up getting soaked the whole time….not too bad with the car camping setup we had but it was coming down for hours on Fri night at Anderson ranch and then all day saturday during the drive to Atlanta via gnarly mountain road. All in all a good time, with hours spent sipping cocktails and beer by the river and later the hot springs while it absolutely POURED down on us.  It was kind of cool beign in such a hot spot in water with cold a** rain dumping on our heads, regulating our temps and making the 100+ degree water tolerable for longer.

I’ve yet to kiteboard on water this year, seems strange considering it’s mid-June but I guess the weather gods have other plans for our state, maybe we’re turning into a temperate boreal zone rather than a semi-arid high desert…too early to tell but this much is certain–I MISS THE SUN!!!!!

Memorializing Weekends

May 21, 2009

This is the official kick-off to summer, gotta get out there and do something truly amazing and memorable. Er & I’s plan is to hit the Wallowa Mtns in the NE corner of Oregon and get some high-elevation, gondola serviced Snowkiting in to wrap up the winter season for good. I’ve been jonesin’ lately for the snow and wind, wanting to send the kite and glide over the hills. But, alas there’s been no snow for over a month and the H20 is still too chilly to really get excited about getting into, especially for the early morning Lucky Peak sess.

So a 4 hour drive and a campout in Lostine Canyon then aboard the gondola the next morning to be whisked to 9,000 feet where over 12 feet of snow waits to be ridden….can’t wait. Prob get some solid cardio in as well as the plateau for Snowkiting is a half hour hike and 500 vertical feet away. Doesn’t sound like much until you factor in a 60 lb pack full of Kite gear, Ski’s, Skins, and Food/Water for the day. It’ll be an adventure filled day, hopefully no mishaps or accidental launches ’cause Hells Canyon is a mere 20 miles away and it’d be pretty easy to paraglide off the hill and be utterly screwed. R&R day on Sunday with boating/fishing on the lake, soaking up the sun and lounging. Then its either kick it for another night or head back to Boise–all depends on the weather really….you know how Memorial Weekend’s typically are-rainy!

The pic below is the view from the top a month ago, plenty of deep pow to Snowkite on, that’s for sure!

Well, It’s Official–12 weeks done!

August 20, 2008

Last weekend marked the 12th straight week Er & I have visited and overnighted a new place with a trip to Grandjean (in the Sawtooths) where we sipped Vodka cocktails in the 104* Sacajawea hot springs on the River. Had a money campspot just up the road, no drinking & driving in the mtns with an amazing pancake/eggs breakfast at the 100 year old Sawtooth lodge. Then we went to Stanley to see the Chinook salmon (thousands of the 3 foot+ fish) and caught tons of Rainbow trout in the Salmon river. We rolled into Redfish lake at 6′ish and found the last campsite open and quickly unloaded to make sure no one sniped us. 5 course trout/corncob, alfredo pasta, crab salad, spinach dip dinner later it was cocktail 30 around the campfire till 11 when Anton & Ben showed up to crash our romantic fireside chill session. Marv, the camp host was less than friendly when he came by to shut us up at midnight (rv campers are lazy and like to complain that they can’t hear their satellite tv) so that was lights out. The next day we snorkeled, fished, floated and threw frisbee in the perfectly clear, cold lake all day over beers and brats. Awesome weekend, definitely time for a relaxing go-nowhere weekend to come followed by the big Pioneer Cabin trip in Sun Valley. Should be another great one.

Kite to Live, Lift to Kite

August 6, 2008

This summer’s been a whirlwind of travel, adventure and expense with gas guzzling trips occupying every weekend’s time off from work. The Goal: visit and overnite at a new place every weekend between Memorial Day and labor Day. So in theory it sounds easy, and it kind of has been with trips to Hood River, the Oregon Coast, Sawtooth mtns, McCall area lakes and Boise mtn sojourns; but we’re rapidly running out of ‘new’ places so we’ve resorted to visiting spots we haven’t been to in awhile.

Kitesurfing the waves at Oceanside and Manzanita rank highest on the list of scenic and adventure filled places visited this summer. Lately it’s been a weekly cycle of lift, sleep, kite and repeat. The wind’s been blowing early in the am from 7-10 so getting a session in before work is easy–other than getting up at 5:30 (not a morning person). Last night’s chest workout was far from ordinary with tons of sets at high intensity and more at low intensity to cover all muscle fibers–still working on increasing endurance and maintaining size. Looks like the rest of the summer will continue on this way with a backpacking trip on Saturday and kiting on Sunday at Lucky Peak. It’s on!

Back in the Saddle

April 16, 2008

Kiting and riding so much the last month, it seems like I haven’t been in the gym at all till last night. I got it done proper with a solid chest & abs workout with a dose of cardio to keep the fat melting off. Down to a lean 215 with a little chub left to go, stomach only, and some size to put back on (mainly in shoulders & arms). Last weekend was money action with the time spent in Wallowa (northeast Oregon high country) climbing peaks and skiing chutes. It was super-fun, but the snow was less than ideal–it switched from cold smoke powder to death crust by day 2. Nonetheless, it was a good workout and amazing, breathtaking views of huge sweeping snow-covered mountains. Today it’s off to the Camas for one of the last snowkiting sessions of the winter, on to the lakes in a couple weeks, but for now it’s all about the last remaining scraps of snow to ride. With winds in the 20-30 range, it should be a real ripper out there.

Ending it All Already

March 14, 2008

So after a week like this it’s hard to stay positive, so I might ran a bit–there’s the forewarning, proceed with caution as their could be a f-bomb in your immediate future. Training is going okay, more like cardio with some intermittent weights thrown in every 3 days or so. Pissed off my chest something fierce on Tuesday and still feelin’ it now, despite chugging down 2 Xtend servings a day. The NO shotgun version 2 kicks so much a**, ten times stronger than the weaker formula’s (not naming names, but you know who) and damn tasty now too! It’s too bad my iron game is so inconsistent to see any real gains from it though, just sick pumps and mad energy a couple times a week. It seems as of late that the wheels are turning, but the cars in neutral…..going nowhere and fast. I’m ready to end the week already, end it all. On the bright side, I’m down to 218–20 lbs less than mid-December sloppy joe standard I found myself in after running Omnevol. Most of the fat loss is diet, but Lipo 6X and Havoc are helping out a bit. Definitely isn’t the workout, cause that’s seriously about a 5 out of 10 in terms of consistency and output. Weak I tell you, weaksauce! This wweekend is recharge mode with time kiting and hopefully resting up in the tranquility of the mountains.

Game Back On

February 13, 2008

The downcycle of my rest period is over, no more reasons not to punish the iron. The last time I actually took a periodized rest was over 2 years ago, so I was definitely overdue. Feelin’ good now, ready to slay the beast daily and hit new highs in strength and size. With the cut nearly complete, it’s on to higher calorie diet and lower rep, higher weight training routine. Soon enough the gains will come, bit by bit day after day. The rest is over, the bear has awoken from hibernation hungry for growth. It’s time!

Mid Week Already

February 6, 2008

Time is straight flying as of late. The weekend was a bit hectic with a snowed-in freeway closure stranding my girlfriend and I in Bend, Oregon and then again in Pendleton for a day. It was nuts, huge semi’s jack-knifed all over the road and SUV’s rolled over every 1/4 mile or so. Good thing the new Outback was in effect, it probably saved the day. Got in some sick riding at Mt. Bachelor & Anthony Lakes–both stellar conditions with 1 foot of fresh overnight each. Kited a new area Monday on the way back from Oregon and the lady even got a couple pulls in, next thing I know she’ll be doing kiteloops and backrolls. Watch out! Training is definitely not on par with the goal, but I’ll kick it in high gear tomorrow and the rest of the week.

Morning Thoughts

February 1, 2008

So at 4am this morning I was sitting here wondering what makes our company different than the competitors in the Sports Nutrition industry. More than anything else; a balanced, educated and comprehensive approach to Health & Fitness is what stands out more than all the fancy gizmos and savvy site features we are known for.

From the thousands of articles to inform and seemingly countless products to supplement with to the hundreds of thousands of Bodyspace members to motivate, our site truly does have it all. That’s just the beginning though, the knowledge and expertise YOU (the face of Bodybuilding.com) provide to customers in need is the line in the sand that separates us from the ‘other guys.’

Your role as a consultant is one of the biggest factors (external ones anyway) that determines whether or not the person on the other end of the phone/email/chat reaches their Goal of living healthier, fitter and longer. I’m working on developing a system that will empower you with the knowledge and tools to take your ability to the next level.

From CEOConsultant.com 1/31/08

Consultant: A professional who provides expert advice in a particular area of expertise.

‘Most small business owners and independent professionals start their business primarily because they have knowledge and skills that are in demand.  While they understand intellectually that they have to market and sell, often it does not translate on an emotional level to the customer.’ This is our challenge, to reach out and connect with customers on this level—providing in turn the total solution to their particular problem/Goal.

Blog Entry

January 30, 2008

Did you know that everything in the supplement world has its origin in whole foods. Nutrition is one of the most overlooked aspect of living a healthy lifestyle, look in your kitchen cupboard at home for proof. Check out the list for the health and performance benefits of various foods that are likely not in your cupboard, but should be.

Whole Food Signatures

A sliced Carrot looks like the human eye. The pupil, iris and radiating lines look just like the human eye…and YES science now shows that carrots greatly enhance blood flow to and function of the eyes.

A Tomato has four chambers and is red. The heart is red and has four chambers. All of the research shows tomatoes are indeed pure heart and blood food.

Grapes hang in a cluster that has the shape of the heart. Each grape looks like a blood cell and all of the research today shows that grapes are also profound heart and blood vitalizing food.

A Walnut looks like a little brain, a left and right hemisphere, upper cerebrums and lower cerebellums.  Even the wrinkles or folds are on the nut just like the neo-cortex. We now know that walnuts help develop over

3 dozen neuron-transmitters for brain function.

Kidney Beans actually heal and help maintain kidney function and yes, they look exactly like the human kidneys.

Celery, Bok Choy, Rhubarb and more look just like bones. These foods specifically target bone strength.  Bones are 23% sodium and these foods are 23% sodium.  If you don’t have enough sodium in your diet the body pulls it from the bones, making them weak. These foods replenish the skeletal needs of the body.

Eggplant, Avocadoes and Pears target the health and function of the womb and cervix of the female - they look just like these organs. Today’s research shows that when a woman eats 1 avocado a week, it balances hormones, sheds unwanted birth weight and prevents cervical cancers. And how profound is this? …. It takes exactly 9 months to grow an avocado from blossom to ripened fruit. There are over 14,000 photolytic chemical constituents of nutrition in each one of these foods (modern science has only studied and named about 141 of them).

Figs are full of seeds and hang in twos when they grow. Figs increase the motility of male sperm and increase the numbers of sperm as well to overcome male sterility.

Sweet Potatoes look like the pancreas and actually balance the glycemic index of diabetics.

Olives assist the health and function of the ovaries.

Grapefruits, Oranges , and other Citrus fruits look just like the mammary glands of the female and actually assist the health of the breasts and the movement of lymph in and out of the breasts.

Onions look like body cells. Today’s research shows that onions help clear waste materials from all of the body cells. They even produce tears which wash the epithelial layers of the eyes.

With the abundance of fast food in today’s diet and the nutritional pitfalls this can bring, supplements are a necessity if you’re going to get even the maintenance levels of certain vitamins and minerals. Increased exercise also creates an additional need for certain vitamins and minerals. Significant quantities of potassium and zinc, for instance, can be lost through perspiration and urine. Magnesium, Sodium and Iron may also be depleted by exercising for prolonged periods.
