So I’m doing some hanging leg raises at the pull up bar and I see this older man –in his late 60’s— with some old school headphones on sitting at the seated calf raise machine, about 15 feet from me, ya know just chillin. Nothing weird. I’m hanging there resting after a set and I don’t notice anything but he starts nodding his head. Then I noticed his feet were moving. Everyone does that sometimes ya know, but all of a sudden he gets up and starts doin some old school dance( ya know the ones you see gramps and grams do when they get a little hifey lol). I swear he did this for the whole time I was at the machine. Totally oblivious to everyone around him. Funny as heck. He sure was getting pumped though!
I went to the gym with a bunch of friends. Some dufus that nobody liked tagged along. He followed me as I went to the pullup bar. I told him that he should do something else, as what I was going to do would be too hard for him, since he wasn’t a regular gym goer. He insisted that he could do anything I did.
So we went to the pullup bar, I chalked up my hands real good and he did the same. I jumped up on the bar with as wide a grip as I could get, and did 12 smooth reps, making it look as easy as I could.
He said he could do that, jumped up on the bar and attempted a rep. He couldn’t even start it. He suddenly got serious and tried to pull himself up again, and couldn’t even move himself an inch.
Now, he is worried, he takes some deep breaths and pulls with all he’s got. Again, he can’t even pull himself an inch.
He drops off of the bar and walks out of the gym and I never see him in there again.
When doing chest one day, a black guy, in his 20’s, comes up to me and starts critiquing my pecs. He said I needed to work the inners to avoid "titties". As he said that word, he started flicking the fatty portion of my left pec. After a whole big lesson on how to work pecs, he then went on to show me his gunshot wound from his drug/gang days…a little bit more than I had in mind for chest day.
