Answer to ?’s about lifting to get leaner….
I receive a lot of ?’s from people about lifting weights to bulk up of course…Whats good to do for this muscle, etc. etc. I also receive some ?’s about lifting to lean out a certain body part. What I mean is people that dont necessarily want to bulk up, but want to lose fat on their chest or arms through lifting. I want people to know that first off, spot training is a myth. You cant just train one body part and only see changes in that body part and no where else. You cant just bench press and see no results in your shoulders or triceps. This is due to the secondary muscles that have to work to move the primary muscles being focused on. Now back to lifting to "lean out" a body part. If you lift weights in a circuit split or super set, you will burn calories and lose fat…but you also have to make sure your diet is on point 110% You will not get as lean as you could though without cardio. Cardio will get you more ripped up then just weight lifting will ever do. Now, to combine both subjects I have covered. If all you do is go in the gym and do 4 sets of 50 pushups and your diet is not right, you will not get a leaner chest. So if you want to know how to get ripped up…It all starts with diet and cardio, period! No supplements, not just weights, cardio and diet are key!

Good post and excellent point! I get asked a lot of the same questions myself. Women especially want to focus on just one area (ex. their but or the flab under the arms. LOL) and sometimes it’s hard for them to understand that they have to work on their overall body composition and not just focus on one part. Don’t get me wrong, guys are guilty of it too as well! If you want to lose weight, I say High intensity cardio and clean eating are the only way to go! Too many people are quick to turn to ‘magic pills’ in an effort to skip out on good old fashioned hard work. Great write up!
