Three Weeks and Counting

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

Well, it has been 3 complete weeks and I thought I would give a progress report on how P90x is going. Although my weight is about the same the bodyfat percentage is dropping quickly. It is very visible in my abs and thighs. My arm / shoulder definition has exploded and my flexibility has dramatically improved.

I will continue on the phase one (fat shredder) nutrition plan for a few more weeks.
Week 4 is a recovery week which means no weights…so hard for me because that is what I love. I still don’t like Kenpo all that much but at least I no longer look entirely spastic when I do it. This next week will will be Yoga, Core, Kenpo (ick) and Stretch with repeats on some.

I really like the program for its intensity level. I haven’t been tempted to skip a workout yet (even Kenpo days). I like working out at home because I can stay focused on what I am doing instead of getting interrupted continually as has been the case at the gym. The hardest part has been the diet and limiting carbs back to level I did when I lost all my weight.

Thirty day progress pics are only a week away.

Day 11 And I Need Heavier Weights

Saturday, January 10th, 2009

Today is Day 11 of P90X and I already need heavier dumbbells. I’ll be picking up some 15’s and 20’s tomorrow. I really love the body part / ab days the most. Those would be Day 1, 3, 5 - Today was shoulders and arms for almost an hour followed by AbRipper aka ab workout from hell. The ab dvd is the only one I actually have to hit the pause button on 349 ab moves in 25 minutes.

Kenpo is my least favorite mostly because I feel so uncoordinated at it. I know it will get better next time.

I was surprised how easy it was to slip back into the cutting phase of the diet. The fat is melting away. I already see a difference.

All Talk …No Action

Wednesday, January 7th, 2009

We all know one of these or are blessed to work with one. You know the type. The person who reads all the latest diet information and may or may not jump on the latest craze bandwagon and loves to "share" all that knowledge with everyone in shouting distance.

For the past year I have listened to him tell me the latest diet he "is going to start" or the newest information about this or that product. This week’s is Acai. Now this man has yet to start any of these so called miracle diets all the while adding at least an additional 30 pounds in the past year to his already bulky frame.
So this time I just up and said it.  "I hate to break it to you but there is no miracle pill, juice, blender, enema, bread, cookie, or shake that will give you long term results. But whatever you choose to do you have to DO IT instead of TALKING about it."

His reply"We all don’t have your will power."

My reply "It isn’t about will power but desire. I desire to be healthy and fit more than I desire a Krispy Kreme donut or five. If I eat healthy things I feel healthy. If I eat crap I feel like crap. Given those choices it is a no brainer to me.

So…wonder what next weeks miracle product will be…any guesses?

Deliciously Sore…Still

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

Today I have several little spots all over that I describe as deliciously sore. That soreness that says I had a GREAT workout! I am near completion of my first week with p90x. I have to say I do love it so far. I do prefer the “body part” and “ab” days over the Plyometrics, Kenpo and Yoga days with Kenpo being my least favorite. The Plyometric DVD should be up for an Academy Award for The Most Likely to Kill Someone in their living room. I average about 2-3 bottles of water per workout. Tomorrow is my rest day  or StretchX DVD. I will do the workout because … well.. that is just how I am. LOL

P90x Day Two = Delicious Soreness

Saturday, January 3rd, 2009

Day One was massive amounts of pull ups and push ups (Chest & Back) and Abs which left me sore in my biceps and lats. I am one of those people who like being sore (slightly masochistic?). Not the I can’t get myself out of bed or wash my hair sore but the soreness that says ‘you did a great workout’ kind of sore. Day Two is plyometrics also known as the mother of all p90x workouts. Now I do plyometrics in my regular workouts but nothing like this. I was able to keep up for the first third of the 50 minute workout. After that my breaks had to be longer than the 30 secs they gave to control the breathing more than anything else. I credit plyo with giving me great control over my asthma but I also know when I need to stop to regroup.

Today is Day Three and it will be Shoulders & Arms. So looking forward to it. As far as the diet goes I have it easier than most since all I had to do was cut back the amount of carbs I was eating to the amount I ate from January to April last year.

Don’t Need No *&^% Resolutions

Thursday, January 1st, 2009

I’ve never been one to make resolutions. I am more of a continual goal setter. I keep a mental list of long-term and short-term goals which I add and substract items as life goes on. One item that has been on that list has been six-pack abs. That goal was put on hold when I decided to "replace what I had lost" with a breast augmentation in October.

I knew that my progress and muscle definition would suffer as a result of not being able to work out. After a month off I was able to start lower body workouts again to slowly start building back what I had lost in the hiatus. Two weeks later I started to slowly add back in upper body except for chest but at lower weights than I was used to. Eight weeks post op I could add back in chest exercises but again at a lesser weight. Now at three months post op I am cleared to resume all normal workouts.

Timing is everything. (Here is where my analytical side comes in) I had this figured out for three months. Get BA in early October. By the time I was able to go back to normal workouts it would be Christmas. I could ask for p90x for Christmas and hubby would buy it thus not complain if I had bought it myself. I could avoid the January "resolution" crowd in the gym while getting back to the goal of six pack abs.

One of the things I like about p90x is a seven day regimen with Day 7 being an optional rest day or just doing a full body stretch routine. I chose to make day one a Thurdsay (today) so Day 7 falls on my busiest work day (Wednesday).

I did Week One Day One today. Tons of pull-ups and push-ups with some rows and flys thrown in. I was able to keep up  and complete it although pull-ups are definitely my weak area. Day One also calls for AbRipper which wasn’t too bad but you feel the burn. Two hours later and my arms still feel like lead. I love it!
