The Long and Short of It
Monday, April 21st, 2008Hair that is. I have had short hair most of my life. (And by short I mean Annie Lennox short). There were a few times I let it get a little longer (my before pic) then bam I’d get it cut really short again.
The short hair thing began my freshman year of college. It was a rebellion thing you see. My father liked long hair so he wouldn’t let me get it cut. It was a pain back then (even at shoulder length). Blow dryers were new technology. So, I cut it and over the following years it got shorter and shorter.
Twice before in the 25 years of short hair I tried to grow it out but never made it to shoulder length.
As you can see by my profile pic it is long again. Actually, my hair has never been this long in my life. It is mid back right now (when flat ironed out straight) and back to the natural dark auburn color I was born with. This has been a two year journey (along with weight loss) of rediscovering myself.
Things I never considered about having really long hair:
*How easy it is to spit toothpaste in your hair while brushing your teeth if you aren’t careful.
*There is a reason Grace Kelly wore a scarf while driving a convertible in To Catch A Thief. You can’t see otherwise. Not to mention you tend to resemble the Bride of Frankenstein when you get out of the car.
*It is a lot of work. My hair is now naturally wavy/curly (this is a new thing since August and I am still trying to figure that one out) so drying it out straight and flat ironing is almost a daily thing (except when I am lazy like today or rainy days which I go au natural - why fight humidity?).
*It is easy to eat your hair if you aren’t careful.
* During…well…you know it seems to be everywhere. Some guys like this my husband doesn’t. He wants me to cut it short again. (not going to happen).
*It is cheaper…less hair cuts needed.
Just a few random long hair thoughts that came to me while driving with the top down, no hat or scarf while trying to eat a protein bar.
