JOHN BERRY’S DAILY JOURNAL
FRIDAY THE 21ST OF JULY 2006

I woke at 6.45am today to make sure I had my first meal ready for 7am. Yep you guessed it, its the same as it has been the last 10 weeks, 5 egg whites and 1 cup of oats! Im starting to think ill miss this meal when I take it out. Yeah right!!
Im not to happy this morning, as I look a little softer than normal, didnt sweat much last night even though it was around 31 degrees in my loft/converted room!
The reason for this is I could not handle the wet dripping sweaty feel, and plus Id been practicing posing for over an hour and felt even hotter, so I had switched on my air-con unitWhy do that I hear you say, yes I know I know the hotter my body temp the better, as in ill burn more resting calories! Probably an extra 100-150 in that heat, But to be honest with you after my nice shower I wanted to try and sleep, and I really wanted a cool relaxed room to I could get some well deserved rest. Besides one night is not going to hurt me..or is it.
Well like I said before, Im looking a lot softer, due to not sweating as much and using my salt loading technique. (I love those yummy salt meals)

Q) John why do you salt your meals again, as dont you think that will make you hold more water?? Plus the videos are great, its good to see BB.com getting behind more natural bodybuilders! Keep up the good work.
Matt Power  Bournemouth

Dear Matt,
You are exactly right but sodium loading can be very a very effective tool! Salt/Sodium will actually help your bodybuilding/training efforts! How? Simply adding table salt to 4 of my daily meals, becomes extremely helpful as it improves the efficiency that nutrients are transported into my system! Plus most people dont realise that liberally salting your food will help your body transport important nutrients and supplements (like creatine and glutamine) into your muscles more quickly and efficiently
Plus it acts as a great diuretic alongside Vitamin C.
All the best and thanks for the support Matt.

Q) I have been following your videos on BB.com, and wanted to know if the training method you use is the MAX-OT system created by AST, as I can see some similarities! If so shall I use this system and what gains could I expect to make? Keep up the good work me and my friends have already done both your shoulder and arms workouts.I think there awesome please keep them coming.
Thanks Bro and good luck with your show                                 The Australia Tank

Dear Mr Tank,
Firstly let me say thank you for taking the time to watch the show, all your feedback is much appreciated, keep regularly checking Bodybuild.com for more updates plus great deals on supplements.
In regards to your question about my training programme, I have recently looked into this MAX-OT training system, and yes there are similarities! They promote Low Reps, low Volume and High Intensity training as I do, but they seem to follow a very regimented routine, where as although my routine is set in stone, I do allow for day to day changes in reps, sets and weights. Though you wont normally see me do the same workout twice in a row, I will complete that workout again every 3 weeks, and when it comes round the next time, I plan to beat my lifts or intensity, whether it be by reps or sets.
I cant tell you how good the MAX-OT system is, as I have not tried it yet, but it does use a progressive warm-up procedure like ours (acclimation sets) as AST call it. Plus just take a look at top bodybuilders Jeff Willet and Skip La Cour, these guys have incredible natural physiques and they follow the routine. It obviously works for them! All I can say is give it a try, but dont just do it for a week then give up, make sure give it at least 12 weeks of 100 Then and only then will you be able to say WOW that routine is awesome or its crap! Plus you can email me and inform me on how you progressed.
Glad to hear that you and your friends are enjoying the show, keep up the hard work and all the best.

Find out what works for you, learn, implement, adapt and then improve
JOHN BERRY

7.30am Its time to head off to the gym, now my stomach is nearly settled and ready for a gruelling session at the gym!

The Aches & Pains Of Being A Bodybuilder

Its my last heavy Arm session. Today was hard work, I still gave it as much effort as I could without a spotter, was in quite a bit of discomfort today, due to the last couple of days feeling a progressive pain in my left elbow! To explain myself, I have been starting to get really bad tendonitis in my left elbow, I used to get this allot a couple of years back, so I backed off my arm poundages, Combinations of punching thin air (martial arts) and Lifting 40kg a side for dumbbell curls for reps twice a week, started to wear my elbows down.
It all relates to my re-occurring dislocated shoulder injury.(motor bike accident-long story) What happens is some times my shoulder traps blood supply, not allowing regular blood to my arm, resulting in high levels of pain in my elbow when used. Like I said before I havent had this in over 2 years, as I have been keeping it in check, but now due to body fat being around 5€not much fat protecting the joints, plus 6-7 days a week training leading up to the show, its started to take its toil on the elbow, all I can do is fight through these last four days of resistance training, still giving it 100

Welcome!
