ISSA it is.
Well I finally decided on which certification to go for. I choose ISSA (International Sports Sciences Association).
I chose them over NASM because of their impressive list of CEU courses and they have a lot more specialty certifications.
I liked the format of NASM courses but I just felt “trapped” ? It looked like it would eventually get difficult to obtain enough CEU credits unless you go to their seminars. With only one seminar in FL this year (who knows if I would even be interested in the seminar that was being held here) I would have to travel for one. That would get expensive quick with the price of gas etc. now days. Time to get moving!

I was trying to choose between AFAA and ISSA this week. I keep leaning towards ISSA. I have to decide by tomorrow. (I will be replacing a trainer who is going on maternity leave). She has AFAA and gave me the book but ISSA looks more "indepth".

Jonahgirl,
A couple things to keep in mind. I don’t know about AFAA but some of the others like NASM, you have to go to a “testing facility” to take the test. With ISSA you have several options. You can take a in-home test (open book), online test (open book), or attend a seminar (closed book). Another thing to remember is all of them require CPR / AED cert. (no online certs.) I don’t know about where you live but here, I had to wait almost a month to take the course. If you don’t have that yet, get it booked.
Good Luck.
