Modern ECA STACKS and Stimulant– Just Because I’m Totally Candid

Monday, February 12th, 2007

Ephedra was a little before my competition time.  But from what I hear, it was the best natural, not hard-core stimulant for weight loss.  I’ve read a multitude of studies and spoken to experts in the field of nutrition and weight loss on the topic.  Before the can, ephedra stacks had been tested, with success, on obese CHILDREN.  Furthermore, the safety concerns with ephedra were minimal- alcohol kills many more people (like multiply any possible ephredra-linked death by many thousands).  How do you think the American public would react to prohibition in the 21st century?

Since I am making my whole contest prep public, I am going to reveal the stack I will use in my next phase of preparation.  Though I have stuck to my diet very well (for me there is little temptation to eat donuts when I know I have to be on stage half-naked in front of several hundred people in a couple of months), I have lost only about 6 pounds since Christmas, which is when I really began dieting.  It’s not a terrible weight loss for someone who wasn’t overweight to begin with, but it wont cut it for a physique competition either!

Since the ban of herbal ephedra, you have two decent substitutes available to stack with caffeine or your favorite caffeine-based fat burner.  Keep in mind that I am not a doctor, pharmacist, or otherwise a person qualified to practice medicine– I am only giving my opinion about what’s available!  To be safe, you should find a doctor who is willing to monitor you while you prepare for a contest, especially if you choose to do any drugs, over the counter or illicit.

1) Pseudoephdrine: Not as potent a thermogenic as ephedra, so you need more of it to get the same kind of appetite supression and thermogenesis as ephedra.  I will most likely start with 120 mg once a day and work up to 120 mg twice a day, ifI I choose to stack with pseudoephedrine.  This is in combination with about 200mg of caffeine per dose and a baby aspirin.  I am not particularly sensitive to  pseudoephedrine or caffeine, so  if you are,  start much lower.   You can alwyas increase it if you are unhappy.

2) Ephedrine:  Very limited availability these days.  It is ONLY LEGAL to market real ephedrine as an "athsma medication" so if you see it marketed as a diet pill, RUN and DONT BUY IT because it is BOGUS!  You can find ephedrine online; however, there are limits to the amount you are permitted to buy and you must fill out a form and provide a valid driver’s identification, which is scanned and emailed or faxed into the sales company.  Residents of several states do not have the oportunity to purchase ephedrine in this fashion.  If the website does not require you to fill out a form is BOGUS and you should RUN!  Ephedrine can be substituted as though you were using ephedra.

Words of Warning!  Ephedra does cause health problems or DEATH in those with pre-existing heart conditions.  If you have any kind of heart issue, do not use a PCA or ECA stack– it’s just not worth the death to get leaner!

"Ephedra" containing internet supplements are all suspect.  They are not regulated by the FDA and could contain last fall’s yard clean-up.  You have no way of knowing what’s in the pill, if its comtaminated with heavy metals or if it will help you reach your goals at all.  Everything I mentioned above is classified as a drug and is tightly controlled, a little too tightly, so you know exactly what you are getting!

BE SMART!  START SLOW!  You can always increase your dose, you cannot undo death.  Take it easy.  Simmer.  Slow.  Good.

DO NOT BOTHER IF YOUR DIET SUCKS.  You can only see cuts if your diet and cardio are on- don’t expect any stack to work without giving yourself a hurtin’!

Blood Analysis Added to Contest Prep!

Whole Blood Tests Today: Serum Next Week
Today I had one of my friends take a couple of tubes of blood from my left arm.  She didn’t mind too much because I’m a very “easy stick.  In an event, we analyzed the whole blood on the Cell Dyne today and we’ll run the serum next week.  The whole blood analyzer counts the number of white blood cells and red blood cells in your body.  The white blood cells are immunity cells, so the levels in the blood give information about the strength of your immune system.  Generally, if your values are higher than normal, than you are in the process of fighting off infection (more white blood cells have been made to attack the germs).  If the white blood cells are low, you have a lower ability to fight off infection.

The whole blood analysis also looks at red blood cells, which are indicators of anemia and some B vitamin deficiencies, among other things.

My Value
Normal Range*
White Blood Cells (Total, K/uL)
3.22
4.0 - 11.0
Neutrophils 1.34 (41.7% of WBC)
2.0 - 7.5 (45-74%)
Lymphocytes 1.50 (46.5% of WBC) 1.5 - 4.0 (16-45%)
Monocytes 0.259 (8.05% of WBC) 0.2 - 0.8 (4.0-10%)
Eosinophils 0.084 (2.61% of WBC) 0.04 - 0.4 (0.0-7.0%)
Basophils 0.037 (1.14% of WBC) 0.01 - 0.1 (0.0-2.0%)
Red Blood Cells (Total M/uL)
4.31 3.9 - 5.2
Hemoglobin (d/dL) 13.5 12 - 16
Hematocrit (%) 42.1 37 … 47
MCV(fL) 97.7 80 - 100
MCH(pg) 31.4 26 - 34
MCHC (g/dL) 32.1 32 - 36

*The range is usually defined as the set of values 95% of the normal population falls within.  This means that 5% of normal healthy people can have a value that is not in the “normal range.
I am not an expert in blood analysis and I am not a medical doctor, so I cannot diagnose myself with anything.  But I will discuss a little bit what my values mean to the best of my understanding.  I will also show the results to a doctor in my lab and see what she thinks!

White Blood Cells- My values are a little scary here.  I am definitely below the normal range for total white blood cells and neutrophils.  If I had normal levels of neutrophils, then my overall white blood cell count would be normal.  Neutrophils are white blood cells that are essential for healthy immunity and fighting off disease.  I am at greater risk for infection because my values are substantially lower than what is considered normal.

This is only one lab test, so I cannot make any definitive conclusions, but I will do the test again in a couple of weeks.  I will also add the whole blood analysis to the testing that I am doing every three weeks.  If my values are still low next time, I will probably go to the doctor.  In which case, the doctor would probably tell me that my low white blood cells are a result of chronic dieting.  As a precaution, especially when dieting, competitors should be sure to wash their hands after lifting and after doing cardio- lots of people have touched those handles!

Red Blood Cells- My values all fall within the normal ranges, thankfully.  Many women are anemic because of a combination of two reasons 1) Menstruation; and 2) Poor dietary iron intake.  The best and most absorbable source of iron is the “heme iron found in beef.  This is of the reason I at least 2-3 serving/week of very lean read meat.  I often make a chili out of 96% lean ground beef.  A similar recipe can be found here:

I will have my serum values up next week, hopefully.  Included in that test is blood glucose, triglycerides, cholesterol and others.
