it ain’t easy - but should it be?

Not had much of a chance to update the blog, LOTS been going on

First off, I’ve been reading around other people’s blogs you know, picking up inspiration I know that my diet is good, in actual fact that way I am training I should be eating more cals. At least the cals I eat are V good. Still, something’s been missing lately, progress has been very slow. Now, I’m not one of those people that thinks getting the latest new-fangled supplement is some sort of magic key to success. I just look at diet, training program, rest, consistency (for me, a BIG factor!).

Lately I’ve just not been getting the soreness, which for me is always a good indication that I’ve worked my muscles well, ripped them up. As I am lifting consistently and have been for years now, I must be getting used to it. I know that you’ll be thinking that I should switch up my workout program, well I actually did about 3 weeks ago and it’s been working, but I just have not felt like progress has been enough. I could do more, I could progress better. (The main factor is working the sessions around my hectic double-life I lead, business man by day, musician by night!)

So then, short of change the program that’s still working, I thought ‘why not just do more?’

I decided to step it up a gear.

I’ve upped the volume on most body parts to 5-6 sets, not for everything but for most. I usually get 2 warm-up sets for the first exercise, usually a big compound movement to work the whole muscle. The warm-up sets are not counted in the total sets, so I’m doing 5-6 working sets. This HAS kicked my body back into shock mode, forcing a change. That’s what it’s all about! My last session was chest and 3 day later, I’m still sore! I’m convinced it looks bigger too! Weight is not increasing to any great degree, so this is where I think I need to up my cals.

One thing I did want to mention…kick your body too hard and it’ll kick you back! My own fault, in addition to working more sets circumstances changed and meant that I had to workout more days in a row (the alternative would have been NOT to workout on the usual day due to my other commitments)

In short I kicked my own ass - OVER TRAINED!

I have had the most painful, lethargic, emotional 2 rest days. Just generally flattened

The good news - I’ve bounced back today and am feeling full of beans! I’ve got my MOJO back…..

On to the next round……

a short update…

Last night I had a stormin back workout and took some progress pics in the kitchen when I got home. (I finally worked out the timer function so don’t have to ask my Wife to take the pics - I know she is always amused when she does!)

It’s been a couple of weeks since I posted up anything and now that my enthusiasm for getting a new camera is wearing off, I do updates every 2 weeks, which also means I can see small progress during that time. The good news is that I CAN actually SEE some progress. It’s the only way I can silence the demons that tell me I’m small, or I’m fat or whatever.

I’m really ‘psyched’ about this, and cannot wait to share with you all

I will not be able to post pics until maybe late this week, but let’s just say I’ll be happy when I can

In the meantime, I’m gonna eat big and lift big. Still relentlessly bulking. The more mass the better BABY

See ya!

Jim

For me that’s what this is all about, bodybuilding - making progress.

My Flat Bi’s Mysery!

Friday, February 15th, 2008

I have flat Bi’s!

It’s taken a long time for me to realise this but I just don’t have the peak in my bi’s. I seem to have the kinda Bi’s that flatten out and don’t peak in the middle. Let get a few things straight

I always workout with good form, (unless I do negs which I sometimes throw in on the last set)

I focus on both the up and down movement

I do full range movement, (and sometimes do 21s where I do partials for the 7s of course!)

I eat very well, it’s my lifestyle baby!

I have tried going heavy 6-8s - with good results in mass but not peak

I’ve gone for more volume, more sets, more reps - basically killing Bi’s and Tris but again, no Peak!

I’ve cut up before my hols late last year and admittedly I had more peak, BUT LESS MASS!

My Tri’s want to grow and are over-shadowing the Bi’s I think

I need advice as I cannot accept that my genetic makeup is to have FLAT Bi’s. I MUST be able to improve my game to get a good couple of peaks

It’s Bi’s and Tri’s tonight - supersets all the way. I would love to switch up this workout day so I’m open to suggestions

PLEASE HELP!
