Getting ready for summer

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

I finished my last exam of this semester today, and am ready to bust my a** in the gym for the next two weeks before my summer semester(I don’t know what i was thinking, Summer School!?!?!)

I have been doing cardio about 5 days a week lately, and weights two to three times a week, I’m trying to find a good balance for my body type. My muscle mass is still alot smaller than I want, but, its much too late in the year for me to be trying to gain size, and so am mostly focusing on cutting bodyfat(like usual.)  I’ve seen alot of articles(here and elsewhere) saying to do weight resistance to lose bodyfat, but upon reading these they seem to be focused towards guys a little more out of shape than myself or females.

I don’t know if I should still be doing heavy weights or medium weights w/ higher reps. How often should I be doing weights compared to cardio? I’m looking to just maintain the little muscle mass I have, and burn as much fat of as possible

Side note: My diet is pretty spot on a 500 cal cut a day,5-6 meals a day with as close to  40/40/20 ratio as possible in my situation.  My body type is between a  mesomorph and endomorph, according to the article on bb.com

Any suggestions or comments are greatly appreciated!!

Blog Entry

Friday, April 11th, 2008

Well, I’m back from my mini vacation, and decided to do a full body workout to get my body back in the swing of things.     I was working with the one rep max numbers from an earlier workout (check previous blogs) and did one warmup, and one working set for the six main exercises. Overall I felt good doing most exercises, and surprisingly, increased most of my working weights with no real problems, with the exception of the overhead press which I could feel burning even during the warmup. My shoulders can be tempermental. I tried to stretch it out but no luck, so to keep from injuring myself I just worked with a weight I knew I could handle with no problems.

Today was 17 degrees here, about 63F (I know there’s more of you than us) lol, which worked as a nice reminder that summer’s right around the corner and I need to get back to putting in a full effort to reach my summer-time goals.

I will post some new progress pics tonight, or this weekend at latest

Any comments, opinions, etc. are always more than welcome and appreciated
