Well, the ancient men you speak of weren't HUGE like some of the guys today being accused of taking steroids. They were of smaller frame, athletic, and very very lean. This was mostly because of their diet and their exercise routine. They didn't lift a lot of heavy weights (another reason some guys today get so huge), but they did a lot of field work and sports, mostly running.

They didn't need multivitamins because their diet had everything in it they needed. Another difference, though, between us and them is that we consume a lot more protein than they did. Their diet was heavily based on carbohydrates.

Now, about the roids. A lot of guys take every kind of supplement they can that's legal to get huge and lean, and call it natural. In the bodybuilding world, they can get away with that claim. But if we travel back through time, the ancients would laugh at us and tell us we're on drugs. So it's all about your perspective.

If you really want to athletic-looking through a natural approach, then look at your diet, forget the supps, and start running.

unfortunately the sport world is full of drug takers from athletics to cycling [ the tour de france is virtually killing itself by its drug exposure ] even down to the world of horseracing [ the japanese horse in the arc tested positive for steroids - legal in japan illegal in europe ].what we lack is a uniformity in what is permissible and from my opinion; that should be that none are permissible. whereever big money or the chances of getting famous lurk - people will cheat to get there ; that unfortunately is human nature! did not aussie tv once say that joe bugner the boxer was so desperate to get on tv at anytime that he was the only person they knew who would willingly have his balls cut off for tv exposure. i agree with you and the only consolation we can take is we did it the natural way and didn't shorten our lifes in the process. one last thing - don't under estimate the greeks or romans they were advanced. more i think then most realize.

Yes, integrating cardio into your strength workouts will help you get through it, and will help keep your HR up and metabolism going strong.

You might also look into doing short, high intense cardio bouts of exercise. Boot Campts usually have a lot of what you'd benefit from, and a lot of fitness clubs are starting to offer boot camps.
