NASA Iowa Sate Championship April 26th 2008

Big meet. Not exactly sure how many people ended up lifting but it was a lot. Made for a pretty long time but EVERYTHING ran amazingly smooth. Started with some curls, 2 flights of Squats, 5 flights of bench, and 3 flights of deadlifts. I don’t know but I don’t believe there was a single miss-load and the spotters were right there for everything. Judges were NOT giving any gifts. Definitely had the Ace crew there. Lots of very strong lifters showed up and put together a great meet. Adrian Wright hit the biggest total of the day. If I remember right he broke through a total of something over 1800+ unequipped.

Got there the night before and got weighed in at 217. I was nervous about making weight so I only had a shake in the morning, later on a peanut butter sandwich, then some yogurt, and finally an apple with some peanut butter. I sure made it under 220. Right after weigh-ins ran over to Famous Dave’s and got a full rack of ribs, corn muffin, corn, baked beans, and mashed potatoes. Should have known better than to lather it all up with all the different sauces. Woke up in the middle of the night feeling nauseous but ended up just running to do the number 2 dead all night and into the next day. Normally this would be bad but this is the second meet in the row where I had an upset stomach and had some great results.

Squats Absolutely LOVE the APT Convict Pro’s now after wearing them for the first time in a meet!!!!

I couldn’t have asked for a better meet. Tried to keep hydrated between hitting the bathroom every 15minutes but everything started cramping down to my toes on the deadlifts by the end of the day. Hit a major milestone that I set for myself back when I first started powerlifting for this meet. I hit the 1275 total I really wanted. I was really thinking about trying for a 500 deadlift but put that off to make sure I hit the total. If I missed I wouldn’t have gotten either goal. Next meet I will hit a 1300 total and hitting 500 sq/dl. I also hit my newly added goal of breaking into the top 100.

24hours and I’ll have at least my first squat attempt done!! GAME TIME!!! Got my bag ready to hit the road as soon as I get off work to go weigh in. I’m at about 220.2 at night and about 218 in the morning right now. So, if their scales are off from mine a little I may have to reweigh in in the morning. I’m finally starting to get my mind on my lifts and getting really excited.

What helped too was that I was going over the NASA top 100 list for Unequipped men and I have a really good shot at breaking through and getting listed. So, that is now added to my goals for tomorrow. Sounds like it’s going to be a long day as this will probably be a pretty good sized meet with what sounds like over 60 lifters.

Getting ready for the meet…

24hours and I’ll have at least my first squat attempt done!! GAME TIME!!! Got my bag ready to hit the road as soon as I get off work to go weigh in. I’m at about 220.2 at night and about 218 in the morning right now. So, if their scales are off from mine a little I may have to reweigh in in the morning. I’m finally starting to get my mind on my lifts and getting really excited.

Okay not so zen like. Already starting to get pissed off and anxious. So, decided to hit up my bench opener this morning. Felt okay until I got to 225 and the right arm started hurting again in the decent. Screw it. 275 felt strong regardless and I find it crazy I can do that now any time any where when I got totally annihilated by 270 last Oct. In fact I just realized I’m opening higher on all my lifts then I did in that Oct. meet 6 months ago. Now that is putting me mentally back in the game!! No more excuses. I’ve worked my ass off to come back this past month and a half and I’m ready to give it everything I have again.

Right arm is seriously hurting. Hurt to bring the bar down more than anything. This cycle couldn’t have ended at the perfect time if not maybe last week. Cut volume down a lot today. Wasn’t even going to do the 1 board but really wanted to feel 300 in my hands one last time before the meet.

Went to Walmart the other day and grabbed a couple 10,000lbs tow straps w/ 3300lbs working capacity. Works great and fully adjustable where and how ever I want to use them. Can’t wait for next training cycle and do some GM,Squats, and bench off the straps.

Big Ass. Day…. Very funny day at the gym!

Finally found something I HATE more than Zercher Squats. Zercher Deadlifts!@!@#@#@$#$#@$#@! The Suitcase DL was kind of a pain in the rear to keep the bar balanced.

Been going to the gym still to get some GPP in during the winter and to hit up these assistance days. I found several very odd and amusing things today. First was I saw a sign that was put up over where their personal trainers area is at. It said something about getting BF % checks, nutritional assessments, fitness assessments, and squat assessments. I thought pretty typical but then had to do a double take when I got to the last line of squat assessments. I thought that would be fun to try out. laugh.gif

Second amusing thing was three douches getting each other amped up over doing some quarter squats with their heals on a couple 5lbs plates and 135lbs on the bar. Now I normally ignore all that stuff and never really comment on how much someone lifts because heavy weights is all relative and everyone starts someplace. Just some of the things they were saying was very amusing. Like “If you want to last longer in that bedroom you better put in another 5 reps!!” and otherĀ just off the wall ghey crap like that.

Third was when I took my shirt off to take a shower and all of a sudden I hear “OMG what happen? Where you in a bike accident?!?” I realize first, the guy must have been waiting for me to take my shirt off to check me out and second he was seeing the bite marks from the bench shirt yesterday. So I told the guy it was from some bench equipment that I trained with yesterday. Guy totally didn’t understand because he said “Yeah, I don’t want to get to big because I don’t want to get stretch marks like that.” laugh.gif I didn’t want to burst the guys bubble and cause him to want to get "to big" so I didn’t tell him they were just a lot of bruises.

I’m a big fat gear whore!!! Sported a 52 RageX and my new convict wrist wraps. Got some really good bite marks under and around my arms. That was very interesting but got lots of help. Thanks a lot TeamĀ Carp!! First put the shirt on and instantly thought "HOW THE HELL DOES ANYONE FREAKING TOUCH!!!" Next time I’ll get that 405.
