LHS SQ/DL Full/ATG/Z/Rack/DB DL….. The roller coaster ride of life!

Friday, July 27th, 2007

Week 9/ Day 4

Time to complete workout:
40m

LHS SQ/DL
Full Squat
1xseveral@135
1×12@225
1×8@315
1×6@365

ATG
1×6@225 (KILLED MY KNEE HALF WAY THROUGH!)

My hips were just super tight and sore today and figured I wouldn’t get very good explosiveness out of my box squats so decided to just do some RE work. Then I wanted to try one set of ATG narrow stance, shoulder width, squats and see how my right knee would hold up and it didn’t. I just can’t do them even with light weight with out getting pain in my right knee from an old injury. I’ll be icing it all day now.

Supplemental
Zercher Squats
2×3@225
1×2@275 PR!

I think I could have easily gotten three on that last set of 275 but in my second rep I felt my right knee hurting and stopped it after that.

PISSED OFF Mid-shin Rack Pull DL
1×1@225, 275, 315, 365, 385, 405 PR!! (Strarted to get really lightheaded and by the end I was seeing stars.)

Assistance
1 Arm DB DL to Side Bend
4×8@110 PR!! (More stars after the last set)

Hanging Leg raises
2×20 More Reps PR!!

Ghetto GHR
2×20 Rep PR!!

Yesterday was very much an emotional roller coaster ride from morning to night. I found out later in the day that nights local baseball team had a home game and most of all the proceeds would go to the Oncology Associates then straight into the Cancer Society’s Relay for Life campaign. So, went to the game and to help support the cause I ate 3 brats, 3 hamburgers, and 3 hot dogs. They had a big purple ribbon painted in the center field and before the game they had a bunch of survivors there come out onto the field and stand on the ribbon during the national anthem. Yes, I was an emotional baby yesterday and more tears came to my eyes. Yesterday really put a fire in me and I just wanted to Lift Heavy Sh*t. I started on a PR roll and decided to do more of everything then I have done before. I wont really record anything but the Z-squats and Rack pulls for PRs.

Extremely sad and depressing news.

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

I guess it’s been verified that Jesse Marunde has passed away. He quickly became one of my favorites in the WSM competitions. Always seemed like he had a ton of fun and always willing to give it everything he had.  Everytime I go back to the thread I found this on and think about it I get tears in my eyes. My heart goes out to his family and everyone that personally new him.

Sequim strongman collapses, dies
July 26th, 2007 - 8:41am

(Sequim) — A Sequim man considered one of the strongest men in the world has died. Twenty-seven-year-old Jesse Marunde died last night after collapsing while doing exercises at his home in Sequim. Friends of the family confirm he died last night after stopping his workout when he felt dizzy. Marunde and his wife Callie had just celebrated the birth of a baby about six weeks ago. Marunde also has a nine-year-old son from a previous marriage. Marunde finished second in the 2005 "World’s Strongest Man" competition. He continued competing in similar competitions and ran a gym with his wife in Sequim.

ME Bench Low Pin Press … Just keep on moving the weight and DON’T STOP!!

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

Week 9/ Day 3

Time to complete workout:
40m

ME Bench
Low Pin Press
1×3@bar, 75, 95, 115, 135, 165, 185, 205, 225, 245, 255
1×1@275, 280 PR!!!
1xmiss@295

1×1@275 http://ironscene.com/view_video.php?viewke…amp;category=mr

I felt pretty weak today and 275 barely got up and was my previous Pr so I didn’t think to record 280 which I thought I’d miss. I guessed wrong. Kick @SS!! I’m still having problems getting my upper back to arch. It must because I’ve got such a huge and strong upper back. HA! I tried stretching it before hand. I think I need to try and get my feet back more and pivot my hips up more while trying to keep my feet flat and butt down.

Assistance
JM Press
1×15@bar
1×5@95
3×10@75

I am so weak at these. I really need to bring these up.

Hanging Leg Raises
4×15

Kroc Rows (Saving these for the end because I know I wont be able to do anything else after)
3×8@85
1×3@120 (Just a few to feel it out and it felt good.)
1×20@100 PR!!

http://ironscene.com/view_video.php?viewke…amp;category=mr

I think I’m going to start tracking PRs on these too. They are so freaking hard and exhausting. Took about an hour to recuperate. I about puked up my PWO shake. Something about bending over just makes me want to puke. I spit up a little before even starting on each arm and had to swallow it back down as soon as I bent over.

I definitely didn’t eat enough at all yesterday. I got so busy and backed up at work. I was going to eat my oatmeal with some protein powder in it yesterday morning but didn’t get a chance too so I missed breakfast and mid-morning meal. Went and got two triple stackers at BK for lunch though so that helped. Then missed my afternoon meals and didn’t eat again till dinner at around 7pm. Then I was so exhausted I fell asleep at like 8:30p and didn’t get in my before bed shake. I was super hungry getting up this morning but really didn’t feel tired because I got enough sleep which was good. After the trying to get a good arch on the bench and the bent over rows my back is all kinds of stiff and cramped up. It took at least an hour after those rows to recuperate too.

On a very sad and disturbing note, and I really hope that this is really not true, I heard that Jesse Marunde has passed away at only 28 years old. Again, I really hope it is not true…

Mowed the grass last night to loosen up the old joints. It turned out to be more of a workout then I’d planned. I didn’t think the grass would be as damp as it was and had to remove some of the weights off the mower half way through. I was getting wiped out. Very scary going into today. I didn’t know how my right trap/shoulder/neck would take today. It seemed okay after last Friday when I did the DL. Still stiff and sore in the morning. I did go back and take off the 405 as a PR because I hitched it pretty good and kept myself at a 395 PR which I still achieved the last ME session. I was still scared I wouldn’t be able to hit 395 today. Now I don’t keep track of how much I’m doing during my ME sessions because I always start at bar and add on the same amount of weights and get into a rhythm of adding weights and doing my set one after the other with little to no break in between. I wasn’t sure where I was and it felt like I was about to hit up into my upper ranges but then I count the weight and it’s only 245lbs. Then I was really worried but that all just turned in to anger and felt like I was really selling myself short. So I got back on my rhythm and kept driving the weight up. Now I really feel myself straining and I’m still only at 345. DAMN IT!!! Pissed me off. I dropped the conventional pulls and blasted through with the sumo and hit 365. I slapped on the belt and drove up 395. SCREW IT!!! I wasn’t going to mess with 405 as I knew I could do if I wanted to so I did it 410!!!! No hitch!! Really slowed down by knee height and did everything I could to keep pulling but I kept telling myself I can’t hitch the damn thing. Finally close to hitting a full set of 10 with 75lbs on the Ab Pulldowns.

Putting dry wall up on the ceiling by yourself just plain sucks. I finally got the entire ceiling done in the dinning room. Lots of over head pressing and static holds there. Got a lot of weeds pulled this weekend too, needing to do that for a while. I’m hoping that’s why my bench felt really heavy today.
