You know, I have never been a numbers guy. I did not like math in school and always leaned towards the science of how something works rather than the equations and formulas that make it work. The two ironic things about that are, being a sports nutritionist I use numbers and formulas practically every day and secondly I actually am pretty good with numbers. I do not think someone can be super successful in bodybuilding or fitness without the use of numbers. Weather it is writing down your workout routine numbers or calculating your nutritional needs (a particularly favorite area of mine), numbers will always show up. Now I am not saying you have to be a Rhode scholar in mathematics to be successful in bodybuilding, power lifting and or fitness.  I however think there is one mathematic formula everyone in bodybuilding, power lifting and fitness should learn:

Bodybuilding Formula

It is what I like to call the bodybuilding formulas. The formula looks and is relatively simple. The formula simply states the amount of success you have will equal the average percent correct training, proper diet, and dedication to your goal.
For the formula to truly work and for you to find your percentages you must be truly honest with your self evaluation.
How do you find your percent of proper training? Ask yourself these questions and then give yourself a percentage out of 100.

·         Out of 100% how much do you give to training?
·         Do you train as intensely as you should?
·         Do you often skip workouts?
·         Are you dedicated to your weight training but often skipping your cardio?
·         Are you dedicated to your cardio but often skipping your weight training?
·         How much time do you spend training at the gym compared to
socializing at the gym?
·         Do you use proper form when doing exercises?
·         Do you train too often?
·         Do you do the proper exercises for your goal?
·         Do you do too many or too little exercises

________percent of proper training
How do you find your percent of proper nutrition? Ask yourself these questions and then give yourself a percentage out of 100.
·      How much protein do you eat for your goal?
·         How many carbs do you eat for your goal?
·         How much fat do you eat for your goal?
·         What is your daily calorie intake?
·         Do you miss too many meals for your goal?
·         Do you eat too many meals for your goal?
·         Do you read labels of the things you eat?
·         Do you track what you eat?
·         Do you eat the right foods at the right times?
·         Do you eat foods that are counterproductive towards your goal?

_________percent of proper nutrition
How do you find your percent of dedication? Ask yourself these questions and then give yourself a percentage out of 100.

·         Do you have a goal?
·
Do you make sacrifices towards your goal?
·
Do you plan towards your goal?
·
Do you let others influence you in a negative way?
·
Do you let others influence you in a positive way?
·
Do you prepare for unexpected circumstances?
·
Do you often put other things ahead of your fitness goal?
·
Do you make excuses why you can not achieve your goal?
·
Do you often say “I don’t feel like doing that!”
·         Do you often say “Maybe next time!”

__________percent of dedication to your goal
Take what you feel are your three percents and then divide them by three and you will have your percentage of success. Again this is going to take a real honest evaluation of self. If you come up with 100% on everything yet still feel you are not where you want to be you may need an outside opinion on things. It is like the old saying goes:

“You only get out what you put in!”
