New Home Gym
Friday, June 13th, 2008OK if you read my profile you know that I’m self-employed…So it’s very hard for me to get to the gym. So I just wanted to let you guys know I fixed all that by just buying a NEW HOME gym…
I went with the Ironmaster Super Bench and Quick-Lock Weight System. I read a lot of forums and post it on here about the perfect home gym…So I went out and bought and Olympic weights and bench set…wasn’t a good fit for me since I was not comfortable benching w/ out a spotter. My first though was the Bowflex 1090 it looked like a GREAT idea…So I begin reading the forums on here and learned about other adjustable dumbbells…Like the Powerblocks, Ironmaster, and Weider Powerswitch and so on… I live in CA and the only place I could see the bench was on the web… I am also a very picky consumer and I expect a lot. With the Bowflex I didn’t like guided movements over dumbbell exercises and the feel. I also read that they break often. However the bench was okay…As far as the Power Blocks goes they don’t have the feel of REAL dumbbells and feel funny like heavy toy blocks in my opinion (feel is VERY important to me)… Weider Powerswitch looks too cheap and only goes up to 50lbs and right now I can dumbbell press 55lbs!!!
Ironmaster seemed to make the most sense and was the least complicated of all the other home gym setups out there for the person who wants a home gym that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg and who doesn’t have a lot of extra square footage in their house or apartment to hold a set of dumbbells that have the capability of going from five to 75 pounds each in 2 1/2 pound increments. I plan to place an order for the 120lbs upgrade in a couple of months….:0). The bench from the others doesn’t even comes close to the versatility of the Super Bench - regardless of price - with its easy-adjustment to so many angles while having the seat remain perpendicular to the bench (in a choice of three different heights) regardless of angle, and its adaptation to so many different attachments and accessories…
My only hesitation with the Ironmaster Quick Lock System was with the time it would take to swap out the plates for two separate dumbbells. I quickly realized though that it’s the perfect amount of time for rest in between sets. The size of the handles is perfect; they’re large and super comfortable on my palms and feels GREAT…Very comparable to standard Hex dumbbell grips. I did a lot of research into what would be the best small home gym setup and was very skeptical…But I can now comfortably work out in a spare rooms by only using a 9′ x 7′ space with anti-fatigue mats. It’s great!!!
