Keto and IF
My body loves all this keto food! My skin is SO clear, my hair is SO shiny and smooth… I am just in awe of how my body is responding to the change in my diet! As a bit of an experiment, I am seeing how my body responds to intermittent fasting (IF). What I am doing is just having my evening meal between 6-8, and fasting until the next evening. Because the keto foods are so calorie dense, I am able to eat my daily calories (minus small deficit) within that short time period. This is day 3, and here are some pros and cons that I have experienced so far:
PROS:
- REDUCED HUNGER! I am SO much less hungry having one meal a day as opposed to the 4-6 I would have on an average day! If I ever missed one of my smaller, more frequent meals, I would turn into a raging, angry beast!
So I never thought this sort of eating would be sustainable, but the lack of hunger is nothing short of a miracle!
- The prep work!! OMG!!! The dishes, pans, pots, tupperware, cooking, cleaning… SLASHED!
I LOVE IT!
CONS:
- I get dizzy when I stand up too quickly - I have always had this problem, but it seems to be a greater issue with the fasting.
- I don’t eat as many veggies as I would like (2 cups/day versus 6 cups) because of their volume to calorie ratio. I am thinking of cooking up my spinach so it’s not quite as filling. Anyone have a good spinach recipe for me?
That’s it for now. I am planning on doing IF for the next 3.5 weeks. Whenever I have a social obligation, I will move the eating window to whenever the event takes place! I’m interested to see how my body composition and strength responds to these changes in eating windows, as well as the Keto.
I am supplementing with the following:
- Xtend
- Orange Triad Multivitamin/Joint Support/Digestive Enzymes
- Fish Oil
- Krill Oil
If anyone has ever experiemented with IF, I would love to hear about your experience, both positive and negative!

Where do your fats come from? What does an average meal look like??? And no, no good cooked spinach recipes–I usually eat it raw or wilt it a bit over heat with a bit of olive oil and salt & pepper. I’m not one for green cuciferous [sp???] veggies, but I make myself eat them.

So you are eating once a day? Do you do this for one day or are you doing this for weeks? Do you eat regular one day and fast the next then go back to fasting? I’m confused.

Hey Janet! I love eating raw veggies, but I hear ya on the bulk of it. Honestly, that’s why I like it - I get full without having to eat so many cals.
I’ve never tried IF, but I think I would pass out eating only 1 meal a day. I’d also be concerned with a slowing metabolism.

A typical day of IF and Keto:
- almonds
- chicken thigh/eggs/beef/pork/lobster
- macademia nut oil
- 2 cups of brocolli/green beans/spinach
All in one meal.
It leaves me feeling full (but not stuffed!)

I admire anyone who has their diet and meal planning in tip top shape. Kudos!
And, yes, Hurricane Ike definitely counts. I’m glad you’re safe.

LOL at KM’s second comment
Props to you for being able to fast - I definitely couldn’t do it !! Are you working out on the days you fast?? And I agree - you had beautiful hair to begin with, it must be GORGEOUS now!!
Glad to hear it’s working for you, chica - keep up the awesome work!

Trixter’s doing Dave Palumbo’s version of a Keto diet. He’s liking it. I dropped 1% bf in 1 week, but i cannot stand having minimal carbs so I quit. There, I said it, I quit.
but I have to fend for myself now and am finding myself leaning towards something similar, but with a mid-day carb meal.

"I am SO much less hungry having one meal a day as opposed to the 4-6 I would have on an average day!"
Janet, I have been doing one meal a day in recent weeks. Other than that it’s 100 grams of protein split between three or four protein drinks thoughout the day.
I’m only beginning this eating plan and am at an immediate plateau.
Will continue this eating plan a few more weeks to see if I can break through.
