Hold It Together
I am stressed right now. I want to eat emotionally to comfort myself tonight. Is thereĀ a way to eat emotionally in a healthy way? Or is it always unhealthy to emotionally eat?
I don’t want to blog about the particular reasons I am stressed. They won’t make sense here and will require more explanation than I am willing to give. But. I’m stressed.
I know this moment will pass, and I’ll be over this issue in the future, but it just really sucks right now.

Indeed! No, emotional eating is always bad! It’s hard not to, believe me, I know. Instead of munching, go for a frustrated workout or run–it’s much more rewarding anyways!

I agree with GJ… Emotional eating is always bad, and a good, hard workout can feel really good to work out those frustrations. Plus, I try to think about how icky I will feel afterwards, because when I do emotional eating, I go for the calorie-laden goodies, and eat WAAAAYYY too much. And if you really want to eat something, at least wait till you are hungry then make yourself yummy but also comforting like sweet potato fries (baked) or have one piece of dark chocolate, 70% cocoa. Hang in there!!!

I’m with GJ and Wendy….see if you can get in a hardcore workout instead!! Or if you have access to a punching bag and gloves…that always works good for me!! If you reallly really feel you need to comfort eat….smartpop popcorn is good…or apple slices and nuttella spread…just dont do like I have a few times and eat the whole damn jar of nuttella!! lmao
awww girl i’m sorry your so stressed! Breathe!! Try to breath!! We are all here with lots of cyber love for you!!

Eat 2 whole bags of baby carrots. You can take out a world of aggression and frustration on all that crunching. Believe me! I’ve been there. Feel better soon.

I don’t know about the two whole bags of baby carrots. One of my friends went on some diet where all she ate was baby carrots for one day and she had some serious intestinal problems . . . maybe just some baby carrots? It’s always best to try and avoid stress eating but sometimes it just feels like you need to. I really like to eat mac and cheese when I’m stressed out, but instead of making my mom’s yummy fatty homemade kind I get a healthy choice one instead so it’s not so bad. So whatever your favorite stress out food is, maybe find a small lower cal version and have a little. Good luck, I hope your stress passes. Buying cute underwear, new make up and getting your nails done can help too . . . at least it works for me!

Emotional eating is never good. Hope you turn that frown upside down soon!
Did you notice in this blog you’re stressed and in the next you’re talking about monkeys. It’s almost as if those two things go together!

I agree with everyone so far…..eating to change your state of mind is not good. You can get the same or better results from some good intense workouts….
Sorry to hear about your stress, I’ve been their all week as well. Had to take my son to the ER Thurs….crazy week! Any way you don’t need to hear that…..Just know things will get better and hit those workouts hard!

I’ve never eaten emotionally. What’s the taste compare to?

I’m sorry to hear you’re going through a stressful time.
Unfortunately, I don’t have any tips for emotionally eating in a healthful way, though I did find that drinking 2 glasses of water before trying to eat helped this past week (plus it helped since I was all dehydrated from crying! lol). I hope this passes for you sooner than later

I know what you mean and heres what your do, Eat celery, all day or all night long, you can use some lite vegetable dip. But your body actually burns more calories digesting celery than you take in eating it. SO there Go Nuts

Hey Janet! Hope everything goes well and things get better quickly.
I like Pix idea of the water & others ideas of eating clean foods. You can’t really overdo eating veggies!

Hey Janet…I hope its the stress isn’t too long-lasting and everything is better soon. I’d suggest avoiding the emotional eating or you could just be looking at more stress further along down the road. Wishing you the best!

Hey, I will let stressmonkey know he’d better leave you alone! LOL. There is always a light at the end of the tunnel. Hope you feel better soon.
As far as the eating thing goes, I actually saw something on the news that said eating popcorn is just like eating regular corn, only in a different form. Do you buy that crap? I don’t! Especially after it is layered with butter! I bet some rednecks were like,"Let’s go to the movies and eat healthy!" LOL

hey J - HUG!!!! Emotional eating is the hardest thing to overcome… I agree with veggies. And also that one suggestion about waiting til you are hungry and eating some comfort that is good for you… drink some fruit flavored water… workout hard! I hope you feel better today!!

Oh sweetie, I hope you are feeling better! Yeah I know I should get on the band wagon with the whole emotional eating is bad blah blah blah but let’s face it, we all do it! I say whoever got you into this funk deserves a big kick in the ________ you fill in the blank

Your so funny. I knew it was all just a reason to shop. I knew the truth would come out in the end. haha
I don’t emotional eat but I will have a drink or two. You have the willpower and just get you some good snacks that seem sinful so you can break the mold without breaking the diet. If you do slip and have something occasionally for whatever reason you decide it will just keep you sane.
