So I decided to give him another chance…
I met with the trainer again today, and he did my personal fitness assessment. I had gotten my bf% tested really quickly a few days ago, but he did it again to see if he would get something different, and also tested my flexibility, VO2, strength, as well as something called the overhead squat where he assessed how my body reacted to about 20 squats with my hands held straight above my head. Everything except my VO2 was above average so I’m pretty happy about that! Now on to improving my cardio…
I signed up for another 4 sessions. After speaking with him a bit longer today, I think he’s sincere in his desire to help me. I’ve had three different personal trainers in the past, and they weren’t entirely positive experiences. The first one had me doing WAY too much cardio, no compound lifts, and high reps/low weights, leaving me in pretty much the same condition that I started. Two months of hard work and almost nothing to show for it, besides me being several hundred dollars poorer!! BOO!!!
The next trainer was not that much better. He was in pretty fantastic shape, and bragged that his approach was a tough, military-like, disciplined session. Sounds good, right? But after a few sessions with him, it seemed that his interest was more along the areas of the pretty gals working out in the gym. He rarely paid attention to my form, and that’s one thing that’s super important to me. So after a month of that, I figured I would be better off alone.
I saw good results being by myself. I took myself from over 27% to where I am currently, (14.9%, supposedly?), all by myself. But this final little bit seems to be the toughest yet. The culprit is NOT my diet, as it seems to be with a lot of women (and men!). I always had my suspicions that it was my form, but he was the first trainer that voiced it. It seems that when I shattered my kneecap all those years ago, the ankle to hip cast that I carried (that weighed 8 pounds!) caused the other leg to overcompensate and become MUCH stronger than the other. As a result, my hips wobble and wiggle like crazy when I am doing squats and lunges, and my posture is slightly crooked to the trained eye.
I was all set on getting a 6-pack, but now, I just want to correct my posture. I don’t want to have a broken hip when I’m old! And maybe… just MAYBE… correcting this will bring me one step closer to reaching my vanity goal - the almighty 6 pack!

Sounds like you now know where part of the problem may lay. Now all you got to do is bust your ass getting the other leg up to the other one : )
