IRONMAN Competitor - Joel Stubbs - In The News

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007
Isaac HindsA recent article on IRONMAN competitor, Joel Stubbs hit The Freeport News. Joel has one of the best backs in the IFBB Pro ranks. I know he’s been working hard on bringing his legs up as they have been his weak point in competition. It will be interesting to see his off-season results at the IRONMAN.

A segment from the article:

As far as competition goes, Stubbs is looking forward to a big year in 2007. He has a few major competitions in mind where he’s hoping to compete, but his main goal is to get bigger, more ripped and to work on his symmetry.

His first competition for the year will be at the Iron Man Classic, a prestigious event that’s annual held in California. Stubbs says that he’s looking to do well there and move on to another major show.

He’s intent on taking each show with a great deal of seriousness and earnestness because he knows that each one pushes him closer to the ultimate goal, the Mr. Olympia.

Our very own SecondFocus had provided some pics of Joel at the 2006 NPC Excalibur in December.  See them here.

Abzilla Sighting Expected & He Is Hungry!

Monday, January 29th, 2007
Ian L. SitrenHungry to win! Ahmad Haider first was on the Iron Man Pro stage in 1999. He has been in most of the very major competitons and remains a well respected bodybuilder by everyone.

Nicknamed Abzilla because of his amazing abs which alone can be identified by any serious follower of the sport. Now quickly approaching 39 years old, this Pro is looking to make it to the top. For those of you who don’t know or have ever met Ahmad, I can personally tell you that you won’t find a more pleasant and humble man. But where you won’t find him humble this time is on the stage of the Iron Man Pro coming up really quick.

Haider

This photo is 4 weeks out from the Iron Man and at 236 lbs. Haider is 5′ 7″ tall. Thanks again to Abbas from Pro Fight Supplements for this photo. Keep coming back!

  • The Firehouse - 213 Rose Ave Venice, CA 90291 (310) 396-6810 Map - (taken from citysearch.com) A crowd of many sizes gathers in the tree-shaded courtyard for quiet conversation away from the busy kitchen’s clatter. A menu of lean proteins, calorie-conscious carbs and fresh vegetables starts with breakfast’s egg-white combos, including the popular ground buffalo and mushroom scramble with fresh herbs. Full-fat, cheddar-packed huevos rancheros are also available. Otherwise diligent diners are seduced by carb-heavy favorites like fruit-topped golden Belgian waffles and multigrain pancakes, dense with blueberries and a hint of cinnamon.

It’s award-wining wine list includes an outstanding collection of California wines in various price ranges, cellared in a temperature-controlled display room. It also offers an innovative blend of eclectic design, light and airy surroundings and inviting comfort. Skylights, air ducts and metal ceiling sculpture, along with an attractive false truss dividers and “found art” add design interest. The lounge fireplace and sweeping view windows overlooking the waterfront are focal points.

Watch out for…

Monday, January 29th, 2007
Ian L. SitrenI had the chance to visit the Koloseum Gym in Fullerton CA on Friday, home of world famous trainer Milos Sarcev. When competitors are looking to get ready, Milos is a guy to turn to. So I caught up to Silvio Samuel and Hidetada Yamagishi doing one of the famous and very special sets of sets of supersets, this time for back, that Milos designs. This was an amazing workout and I have to tell you that Milos knows how to train himself and others.

Silvio

Hidetada Yamagishi is 5′ 5″ tall and weighs in at 225 right now. He says he is looking to hit the stage at 220. Silvio Samuel is 5′ 7″ and around 218, he doesn’t think his weight will be too much different at show time. I can say both guys are working really hard and are having a great time getting ready. I will be posting some of their workout and posing photos and videos from that day so keep watching here.

Yamagishi

And if you want a really hardcore gym with great facilities, get over to the Koloseum. Not only is it a great place to workout but the motivation level is really high and you can learn a lot by just watching Milos train the pros. Thanks!

Marcus Haley Preview pics - Haley’s Comet 4 weeks out

Monday, January 29th, 2007
Isaac HindsThis weekend Marcus Haley sent me a few photos of him four weeks out. I’ll be doing an interview with him this week to get an update and he promised to give a preview of the wheels as well.

He is currently sitting at 247-248 lbs and has concentrated on bringing up his back. Marcus did fairly well in his rookie year but is looking to improve and step on the Mr. Olympia stage.

A couple preview pics from the comet himself…

Raymond Cassar previews 2007 Iron Man in Muscletime-Magazine

Friday, January 26th, 2007
GustavMuscletime-Magazine takes a look at the IFBB season opener in their 2007 Iron Man Preview, revealing the seasoner opening lineup as of January 8th (which is proliferated throughout this blog anyway so there’s not too much surprise here).

Despite broad predictions regarding how great the show will be (as evidence suggests a lot more athletes will compete this year according to Muscletime-Magazine), there’s some tantalizing tidbits regarding who will not be making an appearance this year (Gary Strydom), who will be the man to beat this year (Dave Henry), and who will undoubtedly be early qualifiers this year based on previous performance (Mark Dugdale, Silvio Samuel and Luke Wood).

Muscletime-Magazine

Be sure to check out Muscletime-Magazine for more information, the official Gary Strydom site, the official site of David Henry’s “Xtreme Monster Muscle”, the official Mark Dugdale website, the official Luke Wood website, and Musclegallery.com for some great photography of Silvio Samuel.

IRONMAN Preview Article and Predictions - by LIFT Studios

Friday, January 26th, 2007
Isaac HindsThere are a few things you can count on for the 2007 IRONMAN PRO. The best stage lighting of any pro stage, a fun, informative Fit EXPO and for the last three years… rain. If history repeats itself for the 4th year running - pack an umbrella.

Last year, Lee Priest attended one of his last IFBB’s suppers and went pose for pose with fellow vertically challenged competitor David Henry. Priest was victorious and walked away with the IRONMAN PRO title.

The little big man, David Henry, returns to the line up this year but will he be able to flex his way to his first pro title? Unfortunately for David, not this time around. Why? Two words - THE X-MAN!

Visit: http://bodybuilding.com/fun/isaac105.htm for the full preview.

What you you think? Did I get it right or miss the mark with these predictions?

A Bigger & Better Mohammad El Moussawi

Thursday, January 25th, 2007
Ian L. SitrenMoe is one of the guys who does not get the attention of a lot of guys but he comes in with among the best arms in the business. Last year he was on the Iron Man stage at 228 lbs and he says that this year you can see him at 245 lbs. This photo is still many weeks out sent from Moe in New Zealand where he lives. And it looks like he has really packed it on. When he is cutting down there is going to be a lot of muscle there!

Moe pre

He will soon be here in L.A. finishing getting ready with the help of his brother and pro trainer Abbas from Pro Fight Supplements. Moe is very detemined this year to really move it ahead so I really expect to see something special at the Iron Man from him. And what many people don’t know is that Abbas is the secret weapon of many pros before they hit the stage.
