That White Stuff….
Sugar, flour and salt. I have eight southern sisters…all great cooks who love cooking for their baby brother. I am so determined to transform this body and say no to 3 cheese baked mac, sweet potatoe pie, sock it to me all butter pound cake, bbq ribs, fried you name it. I just keep telling myself what I do today will determine my tomorrow. I substituted salt for Mrs. Dash but Lord knows I love smoked turkey neck bones in my greens! I thank everyone on here who has beaten the challenge and encourage me daily by your profile and photos. I am determined to eat right and train hard. Thank you everyone. It wont be long I will be able to take my shirt off in confidence and wash the car…lol

Yeah, southern food is the hardest to give up, it’s good for your soul. Too bad. I miss homemade biscuits and fried anything the most…
Good luck and keep up the hard work!

Dude! I grew up in Louisiana and I know far-too-well what you’re talking about. Enola Prudhomme wrote a couple of low-fat cookbooks that helped me get some less-than-fatal cajun dishes going. As far as the neckbones go…maybe on a cheat day? Best of luck! al

Hey, there’s nothing wrong with the things you just named off. My wife puts smoked turkey in her greens, which is better than pork. She bakes her macaroni, also. She just doesn’t cook a lot of soul food throughout the year.
We have sweet potato pie maybe twice a year, and that’s around holidays. We bake, and steam most of our foods. No salts after the food is cooked.
I didn’t give up nothing, but pork. I eat turkey sausage, instead of pork sausage. The other foods, I just don’t eat as often. I usually save the bbq, and other foods for a good cheat day. I mean a good one!
