My mom had surgery last week to remove a tumor and lymph nodes that were cancerous. I am very close to my mom and it has been hard to deal with. She will also have chemo in about 5-6 weeks. Now, I feel I need to pay closer attention to what I am eating and doing. She was telling me that the type she has, is more closely caused by age(she’s 73) and being overweight(she has been for a long while) and there is about a 10% chance of it being inherited(her maternal grandmother had it in the 1960’s). My weight is in the "normal range" now, but I have been heavier in my 20’s. I eat clean, and certainly get enough exercise! So, I hope my chances are even lower than someone who doesn’t have a relative with cancer. This experience has made me take a different look at life. I have a few goals that are not weight related that I want to do. 1. I want to look at each day as precious, what if its my last? 2. Take time to enjoy life with my boys and hubby. Really take time, not put them on the last of my to-do list. 3. Not get SO frustrated and angry over the little stuff. 4. Do something I’ve always been afraid to do(not sure what that is yet!). This has been a learning experience for not only my mom, but for me also.

I am a happily married(15 years!!) mom of 3 boys. I homeschool the boys and work part time as an aerobics instructor. I am also working on my personal trainer certification. Life at our house is ALWAYS busy! I lift usu. about 4-5 days a week and do 5 days of cardio. I am currently working with Cathy Savage doing her Lifestyle program. I have worked with her for the past 2 1/2 years. It is a great program, very hard, but great. I eat 5-6 meals a day, clean food, lots protein and veggies/fruit. I am with in my goal weight by about 10 lbs. Its not much, but I have been dealing with thyroid issues and that complicates things. I started gaining weight despite eating clean and exercising all the time. With my classes and my own exercise, I would guess I exercise between 7-10 hours a week. Its alot of hi-intensity stuff like bootcamp 2-3 times a week(which I love teaching-FUN!!). So, with all that my body is like a willful two year old, screaming NO!!!! I won’t release this weight!!! But, I am an optimist and will keep on at it, whipping it into submission!!!
