Feeling better today… Like a machine…

Well, I’m glad yesterday’s misery was short lived. I feel back to normal today, though I was quite tired this morning when I woke up. My NoXplode didn’t seem to do much for me today. But I forced myself to the gym for my shoulder workout. It went pretty well. I feel I worked them ok. Maybe if I had more energy today I could have worked them harder. It was about a 45 minute workout. I wanted to do something else, so I decided to climb on the treadmill and do a 10 minute run. I started out at 6 mph for about 3 minutes, and then I began alternating, with 9mph runs for a minute, then ramp it down to a slow 4 mph job for a minute. I did this all the way up until the 10 minute mark. I think if I can do this 3 times a week, that will be a little extra calories burned and it might help me tim off a little of the midsection.

After I showered and was leaving the gym, there was a guy in there working out that stopped me and asked me a question. Now, this guy was pretty big. He was probably 6′2" and probably weighted about 200. He seemed to be pretty slim, but built, kind of like me, but a little bigger. He had a pretty massive chest and big arms. He asked me how often I do cardio after my workouts. I told him that today was my first day for doing it and I told him my idea of 3 times a week to see what it does for me. He was concerned that his running has been fighting for the nutrients that his workouts demand, reducing his gains. He said my idea sounded pretty good and that he might try the same thing.

I tell you what… That was my motivation for today. For someone that looked as good as this guy did, and he came to me for advice. That is a great feeling of accomplishment. I guarantee you that if he had seen me two months ago, he would have asked me anything. MOTIVATOR!

Just another mental note. I hate treadmills. I hate running. I have a really hard time convincing myself to go outside and run. I can see that trimming my stomach down is going to be a bigger challenge than I originally thought. The good thing is that when I got on that treadmill today after working out, the first time I’ve ran following a workout, one image was in my head… Dolph Lundgren from Rocky IV, running on the treadmill… Like a machine… solid, steady, mean. That image was in my head the whole time and it felt great. It made me feel more like a machine, a solid, pumped, running machine. Maybe the marine that asked me the question when I left the gym thought the same? Yeah, I’m definitely feeling good today.

Sounds like you did great. Cardio is a necessary evil. I personally can get into. I use it as my zone out time. With the right music and mental focus, it can go pretty fast.
