One workout left until vacation

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

I worked chest today. Managed a 170 lb. bench. I followed that with 3 x 150 7 x 140, 7 x 140, and 7 x 120. I also did 4 sets of flyes, 2 using 40 lb DB, and 2 using 35 lb. I finished up with 4 sets of cable crossovers and 2 sets of machine flyes. I hit triceps with 10 dips, and 3 supersets of rope extensions and single arm cable extensions. It was a pretty decent workout.

Tomorrow is my day of rest and then Saturday will be my last workout before going home for a couple weeks of vacation. I’ll be working back and biceps on Saturday. I’m definitely looking forward to my vacation. I’m going to try to not eat too much junk and try to get some exercise in. The rest will do my body some good and when I come back, I’ll be hitting it hard for a major bulk. I’m going to shoot for 190 but if that comes too quickly, I’ll shoot for 200. I’ll be trying out Animal Test so definitely looking forward to that.

Asymmetrical…feel like a fiddler crab.

Sunday, October 14th, 2007

When I was working out this morning, I noticed a huge difference in the size of my arms; it was very apparent. Both arms were fully pumped and my right arm looked great. But my left arm looked small in comparison. Actual measurement time: My right arm is 13.5" relaxed… and 15.0" flexed.
My left arm is 13.0" relaxed … land 14.25" flexed.

You can easily see the difference in size. I’m thinking to try to get them evened up, I will still work out my right arm, but maybe add some extra sets to my left, or maybe even just push higher reps with the same weight with the left arm. Or maybe I should hold back a little bit and not work my right arm as intensly as I normally would. In theory, this should prevent the muscle from getting smaller and allow the left to catch up.

I’d like to hear any thoughts you all may have.

New measurements this morning, and heavier weights

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007

This morning when I woke up, I measured my biceps… 13.5 inches! THat’s another 1/4 inch since last week. My arms’ relaxed measurements are just about at what my flexed measurements were when I first started lifting in August. That’s a good deal.

I didn’t feel very good going into my workout this morning. Today was shoulder day and I’m just not very good with my shoulder workouts. I decided to start out with some light cardio to get my body warmed up. I did 7 minutes on the treadmill. Then I proceeded to stretch my shoulders, arms and chest. Next, I began my shoulder workout with a warmup set of Arnold Presses with 40 pound Dumbells. I pushed out 8 pretty easily. Ok, first heavy set, I used 50 pounds and did 8 there. Wow, that seemed kind of easy. So then I bumbed it up to 60 pounds. I pushed out 6 reps. It was tough but I pushed them out. That’s a new weight because I don’t think I’ve ever done more than 50  on Arnold Presses. I tried another set at that weight but was only able to push out 3 reps, so then I dropped it to 55 and pushed out 6. Next set was 6 of 50 lbs. Then another set of 6 with 45 lbs. I completed out my shoulders with front laterals, bent over laterals (to hit the rear) and some cable laterals, several sets of each. I also did some trap exercises too. After I finished up with my shoulders, I jusmped on the treadmill for another 6 minutes with some sprinting in there. Overall, it turned out to be a pretty good workout.

Selected to test Animal Test

Monday, October 8th, 2007

I was one of the lucky 5 people to get selected by Animal to test their Animal Test! I’m quite excited about this. I didn’t think I’d get chosen but I did! Now, because my vacation is coming up, I’m planning on starting it as soon as I get back. I still have a week and a half before my vacation, so until I leave, I’m going to continue taking my Controlled Labs Blue Up. The toughest part about the upcoming vacation, aside from not working out, is going to be the food. I’m going to attempt to go for runs in the mornings, but we all know how much I hate to run. I’m starting to get better with it though.

Yesterday’s workout went pretty well. I did a shorter back workout, but for the few exercises that I did, I really hit some heavy weights. Then I blasted my biceps real good. I started out biceps with seated alternating DB curls and I was actually able to do two full sets using 35 lb. dumbells;  something I’ve never been able to do before. I continued through and hit my arms real good. They were so pumped! After that, and a little ab workout, I got on the treadmill for a 10 minute run. After one minute of running, I bumped the speed up to 9mph for a minute to get my heart rate up. Then I alternated between running and jogging for the rest of the 10 minutes. It was a pretty good run.

I was going to workout today, but I decided to give my arms a full day of rest to themselves before getting back into the gym again. I’ll be back in there again tomorrow.

Finally.. my supplements arrived

Thursday, October 4th, 2007

with a slight detour to the USS Enterprise. After it got there, luckily, they stamped it wrong address and then forwarded it to me. THat’s why it took about 20 days for me to get it. I’ve got my Universal Animal Pak to help supplement needed nutrients, and some Controlled Labs Blue Up to help increase my testosterone levels. This should work a little better than the ASN Humagro according to the reviews I’ve read so we’ll see.

That’s it for today. Due to a meeting this morning, no workout, but I’ll be hitting legs tomorrow morning. Oh, that should be loads of fun.

Feeling better today… Like a machine…

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

Well, I’m glad yesterday’s misery was short lived. I feel back to normal today, though I was quite tired this morning when I woke up. My NoXplode didn’t seem to do much for me today. But I forced myself to the gym for my shoulder workout. It went pretty well. I feel I worked them ok. Maybe if I had more energy today I could have worked them harder. It was about a 45 minute workout. I wanted to do something else, so I decided to climb on the treadmill and do a 10 minute run. I started out at 6 mph for about 3 minutes, and then I began alternating, with 9mph runs for a minute, then ramp it down to a slow 4 mph job for a minute. I did this all the way up until the 10 minute mark. I think if I can do this 3 times a week, that will be a little extra calories burned and it might help me tim off a little of the midsection.

After I showered and was leaving the gym, there was a guy in there working out that stopped me and asked me a question. Now, this guy was pretty big. He was probably 6′2" and probably weighted about 200. He seemed to be pretty slim, but built, kind of like me, but a little bigger. He had a pretty massive chest and big arms. He asked me how often I do cardio after my workouts. I told him that today was my first day for doing it and I told him my idea of 3 times a week to see what it does for me. He was concerned that his running has been fighting for the nutrients that his workouts demand, reducing his gains. He said my idea sounded pretty good and that he might try the same thing.

I tell you what… That was my motivation for today. For someone that looked as good as this guy did, and he came to me for advice. That is a great feeling of accomplishment. I guarantee you that if he had seen me two months ago, he would have asked me anything. MOTIVATOR!

Just another mental note. I hate treadmills. I hate running. I have a really hard time convincing myself to go outside and run. I can see that trimming my stomach down is going to be a bigger challenge than I originally thought. The good thing is that when I got on that treadmill today after working out, the first time I’ve ran following a workout, one image was in my head… Dolph Lundgren from Rocky IV, running on the treadmill… Like a machine… solid, steady, mean. That image was in my head the whole time and it felt great. It made me feel more like a machine, a solid, pumped, running machine. Maybe the marine that asked me the question when I left the gym thought the same? Yeah, I’m definitely feeling good today.

Felt like crap this morning

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007

My muscles aren’t sore, although my biceps are still a little tight from yesterday’s workout. But my day didn’t start too great. Last night I got a haircut. When I got back from work, I went to take a shower… no water. Ok, I’ll take one in the morning. Still no water. Damn it! Now I have to go to work with unwashed hair, not to mention the pieces of hair from my haircut that are still lingering. Of course, I decided not to hit the weights today. So when I got to work, I discovered that I had a headache and I was a little congested. Also, I found a little lump in my throat which is that typical self indicator that a bad throat and chest cold is on it’s way. Lovely. What a day this is turning out to be.

On top of that, I still haven’t received my supps I ordered on the 18th. I got an email on the 26th that it was delivered. Because I’m at an APO address, that email meant it was delivered to New York. I still think it should have been here by now, but it’s not so now that’s got me upset. Add on to that, the fact that my NoXplode is running very low and the local store doesn’t have any right now, I didn’t order any on my last order. Yeah, this is one of those days that I just feel crappy. Luckily I don’t have this kind of day very often at all. I think I’ll take my half day today and go get some rest. I’m going to prep myself for a workout tomorrow. I’m going to hit Shoulders.

I took a couple pictures last night, but the camera didn’t work too well. The pictures are very spotty and it shows no definition at all, so I’m going to take new pictures today after I get home. My new profile pic is from last night’s pictures so I figured being a smaller picture, it wouldn’t look too bad.
