I leave for Vegas in exactly 5 days and I don’t feel swim-suit ready. I stepped on the scale for the first time in weeks and *gasp* I gained 5-7 lbs in the last month and a half! WTF?! I haven’t been lifting as much, but i’ve been doing 45-60 minutes of low-intensity cardio on the stair master everyday. I’m wondering if i’m eating too many carbs so I’m only eating complex carbs in the morning/at lunch now. Could it be that i’m gaining muscle while burning fat? I feel a little more dense, but I feel like my waist has gotten thicker. Clothes still fit the same. The waist thing could be due to bloating from that time of the month too. Anyone know the best way to get rid of those damn saddlebags on my thighs?

Meal plan for Thursday, May 24th

7 am - one scoop Isopure w/ water

9 am - 1/2 cup oats w/ splenda, Sugar-free Red Bull

11 am - one scoop Isopure w/ water, 20 almonds

12:30 pm - turkey sandwich on whole wheat

3 pm - steamed broccoli, 1/2 can solid white albacore tuna

6 pm - 1/2 scoop Isopure w/ water

8 pm - one scoop Isopure w/ water, 1 banana

9:30 pm - egg whites, steamed broccoli

13 days until I leave for Vegas and I have failed at staying consistent with my workouts and controlling my sugar/salt cravings. I used to think that people who didn’t find time for the gym were lazy. Now, I realize that it’s all about prioritizing. Sleep has become a higher priority for me lately than working out. The reason being, if I don’t get at least 6 hours of sleep a night, I snap at everyone at work. I know I need to quit making excuses for not going to the gym because i’m going to feel like crap on my vacation. Here’s some bullet points on my workout frustrations at the moment:

  • Staying consistent
  • Waking up at 5am for cardio
  • Cycling my carbs
  • Getting enough protein
  • Eating vegetables (I hate them with a passion and i’m too lazy to cook)
  • Avoiding binging
  • Feeling guilty when I eat complex carbs (I am starting to revert back to my bad eating habits where I don’t eat enough and I obsess over maintaining a low/no-carb, sugar-free, low-fat diet)

I think, rather than trying to alter my diet/exercise routine for Vegas, I should concentrate more on maintaining a healthy/clean diet year-round. Balance and consistency seems impossible sometimes. I do well for a week or two and then I fall off the bandwagon. Getting back on is the hardest part….

Foods I can’t tolerate

Thursday, May 10th, 2007

So i’ve come to realize that my body has become very sensitive to certain foods since I started eating healthy over the past 2 years. There are just some things I can’t handle anymore:

1. Dairy (mostly milk)

2. Pasta (even whole wheat)

3. Garlic

4. Sodium

5. radishes

6. Mac & Cheese (this one makes me very sad)

7. ground turkey

8. potatoes

I also lack any self-control when it comes to portion control with all types of snacking foods (especially sweet or salty ones!) no matter how healthy they may be. This is why I have to stick with bland, all-natural foods like oatmeal and egg whites everyday.

Wednesday, May 9th, 2007

I visited my old college (WSU) last weekend for graduation and it was a solid 4 days of eating crap. It started with Taco Time (they don’t have those here in CA), then progressed to long periods without food followed by several high calorie/fat/sodium/sugar meals and lots of binge drinking. Needless to say, I feel bloated and fat and i’m pretty sure I gained some weight over the weekend. I did go to the gym three times while I was visiting but the workouts were pretty weaksauce. Tonight will be my first real night back and i’m still having trouble with my diet. Three weeks til’ Vegas….i’m screwed. Today is going to be a "detox" day…lots of water, green tea, fruits, veggies, and oatmeal.

Meal plan for Wednesday, May 9th

6:45 am - one scoop Isopure w/ water

8 am - one bowl kashi Go Lean Crunch w/ SILK vanilla soy milk, 1 banana

10 am - 1/4 cup oats, 1 apple, green tea

12 pm - salad, sugar-free Red Bull

3 pm - 1/4 cup oats, 15 almonds, 1 med pink grapefruit, green tea

6 pm - salad, fruit

WORKOUT 8 pm: 40 min cardio

9 pm - 2 Glutamine, 1 scoop Isopure w/ water, 1 banana

Thursday, May 3rd

Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

I had whole wheat pasta last night after my workout w/ chicken, shrimp, broccoli and snow peas. For the rest of the night I felt like a balloon. I forgot why I don’t eat pasta and bagels…and bread if I can help it. I had a breakfast bagel this morning because I didn’t want to make oatmeal and egg whites. Unfortunately I won’t be getting my workout in today because after work i’m flying to Seattle so I have to be careful about my carb intake throughout the day. I was not bloated and felt great all of yesterday UNTIL that stupid pasta dish. I still feel like crap.

Meal plan for Thursday, May 3rd:

6:30 am - whole wheat bagel w/ egg and turkey ham

God only knows how many calories I consumed

10 am - tall coffee w/ soy milk & splenda

11:30 am - 2 slices cinnamon raisin bread w/ PB, 1 cup strawberries

1:30 pm - 1/2 turkey sandwich on whole wheat w/ mustard

3:30 pm - 1/2 turkey sandwich on whole wheat w/ mustard

6 pm - 1 scoop Isopure w/ water, 1 med pink grapefruit

I had an awesome shoulders/traps/abs workout yesterday, plus 20 minutes of HIT on the elliptical. I can feel and see results already since i’ve really started to pay attention to my diet and calorie/supplement intake. I’m averaging about 1,500 calories/day with a small amount of protein in each meal. 1/4 cup of oats w/ splenda and 1/2 a scoop of Isopure half an hour before my workouts and i’m good to go. I’m taking 2 Glutamine capsules and 2 Xenadrine capsules before my workouts and 2 more Glutamine capsules post-workout. Immediately after my workout I have 1 scoop of Isopure w/ water and a banana.
