Life intrudes. So busy at work this week, I could only manage three short workouts. Tried to make them hardcore but felt guilty sneaking out of the gym with only a few beads of sweat staining my clean, dry shirt. Next week will be different (or so I hope)!

Had to do an extra strength workout this morning to make up for the chicken wings I had for dinner last night (yes, I had fries too). Anyway, boxing this morning and the treadmill this evening will, hopefully, train away my sins.

I want to graduate to running (slowly) on the treadmill so I went out and bought a pair of expensive running shoes. Now, I feel like I am running on fluffy clouds as I shuffle along. Life is good until I get the credit card bill.

So, I am watching my beloved Longhorns whup Mizzou last night. But I am not savoring the crushing victory. Instead, I am fighting to stay awake. It seems I cannot set my body clock to be "early to bed, early to rise" during the week and then stay up late on the weekend. I am long past the age when "party" is a verb, but can’t I at least stay up past 10:00? So far, I would have to say it is worth it. I just hope the Bucs/Seahawks game on Sunday Night Football is over by halftime.

I am a competitive person so I take my victories where I can find them. Of course, now my goal is to be the first one in on a Monday morning–that will be much harder.

I am loving the morning cardio sessions. It just feels virtuous to get out of bed and work out before the sun rises. Not to mention that the gym isn’t crowded yet and the people who are there are more dedicated than the later crowd. I have been alternating cardio circuits and boxing (shadowboxing, heavy bag, and jump rope). I think I will be in decent shape by the end of the year.

I know I need to post some photos. But before I do, I need to buy a digital camera. I haven’t owned a camera since I broke my polaroid when I was a child. I guess i need to hurry up or else, thinking optimistically, I might miss my chance to post one of those "before" pictures with the slumped posture and the "defeated loser" look. Workouts are going great.

Its the special sauce. It calls to me. I had to pick my wife up while her car is being repaired and on the way back, we had to drive past three McRoundalds to get home. The kids in the backseat, fully aware that a delicious meal of lentils, rice, and steamed broccoli was waiting for them at home, begged for a McRib sandwich. I managed to make it past two McRoundalds but the third drew me in. So, I found myself eating a Big Mac, big/large/jumbo box o’ fries, and . . . a diet coke. In other words, the "FatGuy Special." I enjoyed eating it but now that I am wearing it—not so much. In my defense, I did manage to waddle into the gym to do a forty-minute boxing/biking workout. Sigh, there’s always tomorrow.

On saturday, I did an hour-long cardio circuit. On Sunday, I sandwiched around the Cowboys game another hour-long cardio session and a boxing/kettlebell workout. Of course, I was able to accomplish all this by shirking my wife-assigned chores. So next weekend, instead of the weekend warrior, I will be the strong and powerful choreboy. Such is life.

My biggest obstacle is always motivation. Fortunately, I have, at some expense, purchased some motivation from my travel agent. I am taking an end-of-the-year hiking trip to the Grand Canyon. I know I will enjoy the trip so much more if I am not gasping for breath on every trail. So, I see no problem hammering cardio with two-a-days from now until then.
