What is next

Monday, January 21st, 2008

Tomorrow morning I will be out running again, 5.7 km @ 75% Max HR.  Still afraid to do some more damage to my knee, but Sol y Arena is next in my calendar. Sol y arena

Yes, it is hard, it is on loose sand, the sun will be nearly 37C (98.6F) but (I hope) the tie will be low.  This week at the gym I will be giving a lot of importance to my  legs, specially to the muscles that hold the leg in one piece such as the Vastus Lateralis, and the Vastus Medialis.  Yes they look nice when they get big and fat but in this case I need them to hold my left and right knee in place.

Leg Muscles

My knee is responding well, I had no problems with it today at the office.

Tomorrow early morning I will be on the road, and in the afternoon light weights and Karate! Wee :)   Can’t wait, but then again, it is up to me to keep it at a safe level, an injured runner or karateca is worthless.  I will apply as Kaz suggested my moto in most of the praises and advises: Train smart.

Knee pains >:-/

Saturday, January 19th, 2008

Yea that sucks.  Last Wednesday while doing my leg-out
workout, my left knee started to hurt, very, very much :(

What happened?

I think I earned this pain just because, I start to adding distance this week.  30 km in two days, is way too much, I know the rule of adding distance, but I just wanted to be where I was when I stopped.  BIG MISTAKE!

This Patellafemoral pain just come not because of lack of cushion, but because though the mind is ready to run, the body requires to get use to it.  Lesson learned. Patella No running for five days, first days, ICE, ICE baby ICE ;) but now only ibuprofen and hot bands to help the medicine penetrates the ligaments.  So not even gym, there is something about the ibuprofen and your gut, they just don’t get together well, I will be dedicating some time to my car (was it) but also take my mother’s Honda to get aligned.  LOL all the things I should have done on my weekends, that instead are on a second place because of the gym.  Lifring and training has become such an important part of my life that not doing it this weekend, 12 km run, and cross training *today was chest, back and forearms day* makes you feel …MRA of the knee
well not good.  Keep training smart, do as I say, not as I do ;)

Sol y Arena 2008 Puntarenas

Thursday, January 10th, 2008

Well, this is the first race I participate in the year.

My hope is that this year is not going to be any different.  What makes it a tough run is that is on the beach, you have always an incredible number of participants, what is even more important the space is very confined, you must seek opportunities to pass slower competitors, if you run close to the ocean side, of course you are going to aspirate more moisture that is going to affect your normal breath, if you run closer to the middle you might find more runners there, making you go slow, and if you move to the right, you will find loose sand, dry sand, and of course this sand is not compacted.

2007 was particularly hard as  the time of the race did not consider the tie, it was high at that time so the space available was very limited.  I was able to find some YouTube classics from the Sol y Arena, I’m posting one, hope you enjoy it.

LOL, hope you enjoy it, here is the official website for the race.

Back to Back

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

Monday was Chest and Biceps.  When I do Chest I like to warm up working out my shoulders.  Tuesday was Back, traps, shoulders and Triceps.  After all your traps are part of your back, triceps, triceps, triceps.  Today was Shoulders (lovely) and Legs.

What I love about going to the gym is that on Tuesday and today I had Karate training.  Love Kata and Kihon.  Basic Kata is always the way once I’m done with lifting to get stretch.  Doing Kata Slow and Low, makes you get a good shaking through your body.  I’m looking forward by the end of February to measure again and see if I was able to achieve at least a couple of centimetres on my legs and arms.

Oh yes, this week we start the 5.3km run below 75% Heart Rate, TORTURE!
