Copa SEK Karate Tournament

Sunday, November 25th, 2007

A learning lesson for children.
This year the Copa SEK was more competitive than ever, mainly because our children are no longer children, they have move upward, the natural way.

This year we were not able to collect as many medals as in previous years, was this that bad?  Well in other years we were able to collect more medals, this year the number was quite low.

A lesson to be learned?

I think so, we cannot win all the time, we cannot expect to win all the time, and for children for some of them this was a sour soup, others learned that they have to train even harder, some even asked me if they can start weight training as well (in time).

This year the Copa SEK also learned a lesson as well Costarrican nature some times is not the most competitive, most of the big dojos did not show to this contest just because it was becoming too popular, Too Popular?  Yes, Sensei Román should be very proud because of this, and learned to appreciate the Karate clubs and academy’s that choose to participate and support his great effort.  Us, we will always support a good effort, that is what my Sensei and I think, and support.

Saturday night box!

Sunday, November 18th, 2007

Last night I did not sleep well because it was a must.

Let’s get ready to rumble!

Last night we had the Costa Rica heavy weight champion facing his biggest (and smallest) challenge ever!  We had in Costa Rica Little Tyson Kelvin “koncrete” Davis!Little Tyson  Our Champion Carl Davis Drumond Carl Davisis in the end still undefeated!

I must add, that it was not a bad fight at all, as a matter of fact, by moments I thought that Kelvin Davis was about to take down Carl, this happened in the 3rd round, an upper cut catch Carl in the face near the eye, that shock the audience in a dead silent state, amazing, then everyone started to cheer, that is what is magic about boxing.

Other fights were also interesting, others not so good, like all the other fights some of the most interesting ones were those in which both boxers were fairly new, they gave a lot of heart, overall the satisfaction level at the end of the night was very good, very high.
Welter fitght

Time to put on my gear, today I will be happy with 16 km run slow pace, weather is looking nice.

Train smart!

I confess!

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

I Confess before all of you, fitness family, that:

  1. I stopped cross training regularly,
  2. I also stopped training Karate,
  3. I have stopped even going out for my every day run,
  4. I have double my caloric input,
  5. I drank Coca Cola today and eat not one but two pieces of cake.

But I also promise that ending this week I will start training again; and double my effort; Office work is taking all of my cycles.  Please forgive me

Shoulder, triceps and chest day

Saturday, November 10th, 2007

WOW, almost another week of doing nothing but office work.

Don’t know I’m not satisfied with it either, but today’s workout was the best thing that happened to me in this ending week.

Mario helped me doing all the shoulder movements, from a deadly slow French Press, to … name it, all slow, slow until you start shaking I like that.  Then we moved to chest movements flat press, inclined and declined, then to declined fly, and
the piece de la resistance!

Triceps, started doing fast triceps movements, then we added weight, the triceps started to burn!  that kind of unforgettable fire.  Then the best deeps I ever done after that, added weight, 1 45 kg platter, that added needed some help in the last reps, crazy.

Welcome home Situk

Hey we have a new family member, his name is Cituk (prairie dog)  :) the whole family is receiving him good eyes, let us hope that this little cup be with us for the next 12 years.

Los Mangos is history!

Sunday, November 4th, 2007

But first I will like to make an important note.

Yesterday we lost one of the best runner in the world, I’m talking about Ryan Shay; who collapsed during one of the trails for the Olympics.  This news is a sad reminder that human life is just a breath, Ryan knew this, and because of this he trained and lived his running life with big joy and pride, the joy and pride that we all runners share.

Now, the race; well, no new PR for me :(

Nevertheless it was a nice party in Alajuela, more than 1000+ souls with one objective in mind enjoy a moment together, with one aim, and it is to get there, be there, in a party of colours (next time I will see how can I carry my camera to take different pictures of the event)

Here are my parameters, not the best either, but this race for me was different I felt like if God was on my side, enjoying the sun, the wind, encouraging other runners to do a walk-run-walk strategy, I will never change that moment.  According to my Polar temperature reached 27 Celsius nice!

  • Started: 08:00, Duration: 00:54:32
  • Calories: 870 kcal, 15% Fat
  • Heart Rate: Max: 182 ~ 103%, Avg: 173 ~ 98%
  • In Zone: 00:00:58 :P OK I know, I know…

This only means one thing, go back, and start training my heart again in the low areas to perform better, did not hit the wall though, I felt fine specially this time they changed the route, and they send it through several up-hills and down hills, I saw a lot of people walking near the first 3 km, those hills were real heart breakers.

What is next, well there are a couple of more 10k ahead but Clasica los Mangos closes my calendar, I will keep running slow, waiting for 2008 starting with Sol y Arena, this year I want to run Reto Powerade (Powerade challenge) 22 km and the Tamarindo Half Marathon, THAT is going to be a true challenge due to temperature and moister level.
