I am on day 28 of my second BFL Challenge and I feel great! After a short struggle period I am back full swing. My weight is up close to 175lbs, my weights and cardio sessions are awesome, and I am smoke free.
I do wonder what next after this challenge even though I am only at day 28. I still would like to compete I think, but right now I am enjoying this ride. Good luck to all - GRIFFIN-

I need to pick myself up by the boot straps. After finishing my Body For Life challenge, my commitment to a healthy bodybiulding lifestyle has been slowly slipping. I committed my ultimate fitness sin recently by smoking a cigarette. It was at work during a very long stretch with a couple of my co-workers. It tasted horrible, but like any addiction it trickled into another one and then another one. I cannot believe it. I have come so far, I can’t go back to that skinny, smoker I was nearly a year ago.
I am maintaining my weight and although sporadic, I am still hitting the gym. I smoked my last cigarette AGAIN, tonight at 11:00pm. I was not smoking like I was before, but even one or two a day is bad. I know what it will lead to. My wife is pregnant with our second child, my little girl, and I need to keep packing on the muscle to scare all the boys away. I’ll be ok, I know what I have to do. I have done it before, this time it will stick for good. Quitting this is not an option. I can’t imagine being a 146lb smoker again.
My one hope is that maybe someday all of this will help others in the future overcome their addictions to achieve their goals. I will say this, being a positive role model is not as easy as it seems at times. I know I’m not alone fighting this fight. Anybody out there with advice, feedback, or a verbal smack in the ass will be greatly appreciated. Good luck to everyone. -GRIFFIN-

I had an awesome leg workout today and I found out my body fat percentage with a computerized tester. My body fat is 14.9%. I am going to kick my workouts up a notch. I know, I have to if I plan on competing by next November. It’s pretty good all and all though. I have gained nearly 30LBS since January and I am at 14.9% BF.
Let’s see if I can gain 30 more LBS and lower my body fat %. We’ll see, but I feel re-energized and determined to get on stage by next November. Good luck to everyone -GRIFFIN-

My last post was about my struggle with motivation. I wondered if I needed a new "venue", since this entire time I have been working out in my basement. Well, I did it. I joined a local gym and wow what a difference. I started to outgrow my basement, but I will still use it in a pinch. I love the gym. It’s big, open, and it has more than enough equipment to accomodate my workouts.
That being said, I have a new goal. I want to join a bodybuilding comp by November of next year. After my body for life ended I have been searching my soul for a solid new goal. I finally found it, competition. We’ll see….
On a personal note, my wife is 8 months pregnant with our daughter. I need to get jacked enough to keep the boys away. lol.
Good luck to everyone and the ones who are thinking about changing their lives, IT IS POSSIBLE. -GRIFFIN-

The last week has become difficult keeping up with my workouts. Work has been brutal, between the extreme temps and the crazy hours, I am having a lot of trouble getting all my workouts in. By the time I get home I cannot muster up enough solid energy to complete a full workout and it is driving me crazy. And when I do find a good time to hit the weights (weekends), I end up getting called into work half way through my workout. Maybe I need a change of venue? I have been working out in my basement since January. Maybe I should join a gym and go there directly after work or before. Shake it up a bit, I don’t know, but it is very frustrating. This to shall pass. -GRIFFIN-

I started running this morning. I ran 2 miles at 5:00am and damn did my legs and ass feel it. On leg days I hit it pretty hard, I am usually sore for a solid 2 - 3 days. This morning was different, I felt the effects of my morning run all day. I did other cardio during my BFL challenge (low impact) because I wanted to put on weight. Now that I am tipping the scales at 171lbs and climbing, I figure it’s time to start hitting the cardio harder. I plan on running at least 3 times per week, sticking to 2 miles each for the first few times then increasing the distance as I adapt.
Body Stats:
- Gained 25LBS thus far (Nearly all muscle)
- Have been smoke free for 5months, 2weeks, and 6days
Good luck to all you bodyspacers! -GRIFFIN-

Ok, I did it! I am just over 170lbs. 6 months ago 165lbs seemed like a dream. Now, here I am breaking 170! I am currently recovering from a leg and bis day last night. My legs are really starting to come together. They used to be my weakest link, now they are starting to pack it on. I credit my leg growth for a big part of my weight gain.
STATS - Gained 24lbs since January, have been smoke free for 5mos-2weeks.
Thanks to everyone who has encouraged me along the way. Good luck and stay strong.

I am still hitting the food and the weights hard. I feel great, but I seem to be hitting a plataeu around 165lbs. Writing that is so wierd, 165lbs has been my goal for a long time. I am definetly not complaining, but I want to reach my goal of 176lbs by the 4th of July. I just have to kick up my eating a notch and get the rest at night I need to grow. I will get there. Also, it has been 4 months and 6 days since I last smoked. Another wow, never thought it was possible. I can’t wait to see what else is down the road for me. Thanks to everyone and good luck with your goals. -Griffin

It’s been a little over two weeks since my BFL challenge ended and I’m still going. I am working on my new goal (weigh in @ 176lbs by the 4th of July). I found out last night that my wife is pregnant. We have been trying for sometime with no luck and we finally did it. I also have not smoked a cigarette in 3months, 2weeks, 5days, but who’s counting. Thats all for now. -Griffin-

I did it! My 12 week body for life challenge is over and the results are in:
- I gained 18lbs (146 to 164 )
- Lowered my body fat 1% (9.40% to 8.40%)
- Added 1.25inches to my arms
- Added 2.25inches to my chest
- Added 1.75inches to my thighs
- Added 1/2 an inch to my calves
- Quit smoking
Body for life made a believer out of me. I am very proud of my "after" pics, but I am far from satisfied. Thanks to everyone for the extra motivation and good luck reaching your goals. You can do it and it is well worth it. - Griffin -
