Gnomus does a Strongman
OK, I’m gonna do my first real strongman contest. Not one or two events as part of a Highland Games, not an underground strength game in some field or yard, but an honest to goodness NAS sanctioned, non kilted, need to pay an entry fee strongman contest. (I’m not to happy about this entry fee thing by the way.) So if you want to follow along with me come on in.
I found a contest in Lebanon NH. This is a town I often pass through on my way to Highland Games. It’s about a 5 hour drive so it’s within reason. Here’s the event on the NAS web page

There will be a novice class, so I’m going to start off with that. The Events/Weights for that class are as follows:
Press Medley - 70lbs DB, 115lbs BB, 145lbs fat bar, and a 160lbs log
Axle DL - 3 Attempts max wt. (sort of like a standard PL meet, but with an axle)
Farmers Hold for time - 150lbs/hand
Tire Flip - 80′/60seconds, 500lbs
Atlas Stones - 115, 130, 150, 175, 200
I should be OK on all the weights, but I’ve never done a tire flip before.

Are you going to be able to train the tire before the comp? How is training in the weather up there? Over here I think I’m running out of weekends to train outdoors - I don’t have access to a warehouse or somewhere to train indoors so soon I will have to transition to exclusively indoor training. Good luck and let us all know how the comp goes.

Not sure about the tire. Odd thing is I live in dairy country so I actually have people begging me to take tires off their hands. The only use for them after they are worn is to hold down bunk silo’s and the big ones are too heavy to be really useful for that. Problem is I live in the village and have no where to keep it. I’ve even had guys offer to bring them to my house. The cold is a matter of just getting used to it. Doesn’t bother me much anymore. my big worry now is driving there and the $.
