Bodybuilding.com takes over Gold’s Venice

Just right after the New York Pro contest I was set up to do some photo shoots and with hating to diet without a contest I was ready to get them over with.  Then i received a call from Josepf of Czech Republic who was doing the shoot and he ask if we could move it back to shoot a few people in town, I was more then happy when I heard who these two where.  It was none other than Bodybuilding.com Editor and Chief Kris Gethin and his wonderful wife Mrika who just competed.  I have known Kris for many years so I know he is natural but it always amazes me as he looks great and never gives less than 100%.  This was Marika comeback and except for needing just a little more size she held her normal ripped condition.  A few people should watch out if Marika is back!

Dream 9 Results!

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

Donlon

MMAFrenzy.com

A new DREAM middleweight champion failed to be crowned on Tuesday at DREAM 9, as Jason “Mayhem” Miller and Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza fought to a no contest in their headliner for the vacant title at the Yokohama Arena in Kanagawa, Japan.

Early in the bout, Miller connected with a kick to the top of Souza’s head while his opponent was on the ground, opening up a cut that would ultimately force the bout to come to a premature conclusion. The kick was deemed unintentional, but when the bout was eventually halted the fight was declared a no contest.

In other DREAM 9 action upsets were plentiful, as Joe Warren topped Norifumi “Kid Yamamoto by split decision in the second round of the featherweight grand prix, Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante suffered a unanimous decision loss to Tatsuya Kawajiri in a lightweight title eliminator, and Bob Sapp was submitted by Ikuhisa Minowa just over one-minute into their Super Hulk tournament matchup.

The official results for DREAM 9 were:

Jason “Mayhem” Miller vs. Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza — No Contest#
DREAM Middleweight Championship (vacant)
Joe Warren def. Norifumi “Kid Yamamoto via split decision^
Bibiano Fernandes def. Masakazu Iminari via unanimous decision^
Hiroyuki Takaya def. Yoshiro Maeda via TKO (strikes) — Round 1, 9:40^
Hideo Tokoro def. Abel Cullum via submission (rear naked choke) — Round 2, 1:37^
Tatsuya Kawajiri def. Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante via unanimous decision+
Gegard Mousasi def. Mark Hunt via submission (arm bar) — Round 1, 1:19*
Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou def. Jan Nortje via TKO (strikes) — Round 1, 2:29*
Hong Man Choi def. Jose Canseco via submission (strikes) — Round 1, 1:17*
Ikuhisa Minowa def. Bob Sapp via submission (heel hook) — Round 1, 1:14*

16 Weeks with Sick Kids!

Monday, May 18th, 2009

Donlon

Please join Christine Lanois "16 Weeks with Sick Kids - Let’s Make A Difference"!

She is fund raising in support of SickKids and would be honored if you would join her.

Here is a note from Christine Lanois.

To raise funds for SickKids, here’s what I plan to do:

Healthier Children. A Better World. "16 Weeks with Sick Kids - Let’s Make A Difference"

"Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, and working together is success."

The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) is Canada’s most research-intensive hospital and one of the world’s largest and most respected paediatric academic health sciences centre. Children in every nation of the world have benefited from their patient care innovations, preventative medicine practices and strategies, research discoveries and partnerships. The Hospital for Sick Kids makes a difference but needs our help……………..

My name is CHRISTINE LANOIS. I am a Single Mom; Registered Nurse and an Elite Athlete. I am now preparing for the IFBB North American Championships in Cleveland, Ohio Aug 29th, 2009 as a Canadian Figure/Fitness Competitor. My main purpose for this competition is to make a difference and I promise you I will. My journey to the IFBB will be for all those children in need at The Hospital for Sick Kids; but I can’t do it lone ……………I need your help…….the children need our support………!

My VISION is hoping to raise $50,000.00.  Research cost money; funding from major orgnizations are not sufficient that’s why people like me and you can choose to make a difference.  My goal is to challenge every athlete; trainer/coach; self care workers; parents etc.  The children are our future and therefore their health and wellbeing should be priority in our order of business.

Make a donation now right here.

Britt Miller… Bodybuilder turn Boxer?

Monday, May 18th, 2009

liftstudios

Embrace the twitter peeps. You never know what nuggets of information you may find. Like this little gem from herbiceps’ twitter feed.

According to Michael Eckstut, owner of herbiceps, Britt Miller recorded four knock outs in a boxing event and collected $2500 in the process. Not too shabby of a night for Britt. Will we see Britt hang up the posing suit for good? Only time will tell but it’s fun to see things like this from the ladies.

How will the West Coast Pro’s do in New York?

Saturday, May 16th, 2009

jpt62001

Well, the weekend is here for the New York Pro and I think many people will be looking at Kai to take the show.  Coming from here in LA there wasn’t many Pro’s going to compete. I saw Omar Decker Fri at Gold’s Venice in the biggest and best condition I’ve ever seen him and he said he sat the show out due to high travel cost with hotel and all.  Then you have Big Aiman Faour who also waited till Fri to fly to N.Y because of hotel and air fair prices.  We all know Silvio will do damage and was in his same shredded condition but bigger when he left LA.  One Pro who has surprised me is Hide, because since returning back to the USA this past year each month in the gym you see changes in his body.  This super nice guy is someone to keep your eyes on because if he keeps going like this he will be knocking on some top doors.  After the N.Y Pro I will talk with his trainer Paul who works with Charles Glass and try to get you some good info on Hide’s training.

Jessica Lawrence goes from Boxing to Bikini!

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

liftstudios

Jessica Lawerence from Dayton Beach is an amateur boxer with 10 fights under her belt. This six-foot tall blonde decided to hang up the gloves for a bit and try her hand at the NPC bikini. A little encouragement from Rob Rosetti and the Bombshell Fitness crew proved to be all she needed to get on stage and take home top honors at the NPC Eastern Seaboard Bodybuilding & Figure & Bikini Championships. Will we see her take the stage at a national show? Well soon find out but this appears to be yet another solid competitor in the bikini division and a step in the right direction.

20/20 Covers Performance-Enhancing Drug Issue

This is a rare piece… A mainstream media story that takes the angle that performance-enhancing drugs SHOULD be allowed. Long-time bodybuilding writer, John Romano makes in appearance in John Stossel’s 20/20 piece. The segment ran tonight on ABC. Read the story and check out the video here. Stossel has an interesting take on the topic.
