Proportions

Thursday, March 15th, 2007

I took my measurements today, for the first time.

Chest: 32 in.
Thigh: 19 in.
Waist: 27 in.

Neck: 14 in.
Arms: 11.5 in.
Calves: 13

I also looked up "ideal proportions" and came up with some numbers.

Ancient Greek Ideal Proportions

An ancient Greek statue
Greek statues were made with these proportions in mind.

The thigh and waist are compared to the chest.

Thigh: 54% of the chest
Waist: 72% of the chest

The arms and calves are compared to the neck.

Arms: 94% of the neck
Calves: 88% of the neck

Steve Reeves’s Ideal Proportions

Steve Reeves - 1950 Mr. Universe
Steve Reeves is considered to have the best proportions of any modern bodybuilder.

His thighs and waist compared to his chest:

Thigh: 53% of his chest
Waist: 69% of his chest

His arms and calves compared to his neck:

Arms: 97% of his neck
Calves: 92% of his neck

Then, I found my proportions.

Thigh: 59% of my chest
Waist: 84% of my chest

Arms: 82% of my neck
Calves: 93% of my neck

So, I don’t have the body of a Greek God. I’m going to keep working on improving my proportions.
